just became a member today and i've been checking out the different post and was surprised to not see the hot wells dunes in this section. I go riding ther all the time. The hot wells are only 45 minutes away from my house, we go out in the morning or afternoon and come home after dark, but not before a nice soak in the tubs. Great place ride in the sand.

How would you get there from Phoenix. Also is there any jumps out there?

First get to Safford on Highway 70 from Safford trael east 7 seven miles. Then turn right on BLM's Haekel road then proceed 25 miles to the area it usually takes me about 30 minutes all depends on how you drive. There is a $3 fee per vehicle per day. Any more questions just let me know.

This is called the Hot Wells Dunes Recreation Area. It is located 35 miles from Safford, and 25 of those are gravel road. Take I-10 east to Bowie, go North on Central for two miles to Fan Road. Continue on Fan for 8 miles, turn left at Haekel Road and proceed for 9 miles.
This is BLM land and they are collecting fees for the use of the area. The fees are to generate revenues for improvements of federally managed recreation sites. The daily use fee is $3.00 or annual permit for $30.00. Contact Safford BLM Office at (520) 348-4400.
Most use at the site occurs during the fall, winter and spring when the temps are pleasant. Hot Wells Dunes are heavy on weekends, especially holiday weekends. There are campsites, with picnic tables and fire rings.
2000-acre area of rolling sand dunes. This area has been designated an "open area." All types of vehicles including sand rails, ATV's and motorcycles.
Soak in the relaxing hot tubs after a tiring day's ride Hot Wells is on top of an artesian well that was discovered by oil drillers back in the 20's. The well pumps over 250 gallons of water per minute at 106 degrees and provides a nice break after a long days ride.
There was a generous string of posts regarding this place on the site. You should be able to track the thread down.

Christoblue,
Do you need paddles at the hot wells dunes? I think I may check this place out soon.

Crash177, you really don't need paddles, kind of depends on how you are going to ride. If you plan on racing at the hill you will need paddles to beat people, but its not like glamis sand isn't as soft, paddles make it fun but not needed.

We went to hot well dunes this past weekend and had a fine time.
Came in from the Tucson area on I-10 and used the exit for 191 north off the I-10 on the way into the area, on the way out we went south back down to Bowie and back to the I-10. The large dune to the north inside the fenced area was a bit crowded but not too bad. You do need to be cautious at the north riding area especially around the "cliffs". Four of us used the south dune area inside the fence on Sunday and had the whole area to ourselves. Since the Hot Well Dune area is fenced in, riders need to be a little more watchful for the "other guy" because the whole place is only 2000 acres. We hauled our rides in on 3 pick-ups and used our ramps to unload. At nite we drove from the campsite down to the hot tub area and promptly got our only 2 wheel drive truck stuck in sand 10 feet from the hot tub parking area.
Thanks to 5 or 6 guys on their way home we were unstuck in 5 minutes.
If those guys visit this website, I need to say thanks!

We've been wanting to explore the hot well dunes area. Hopefully, this winter we'll get a group and head over for a few days.
