View Full Version : What to take on a ride.
Your going on a ride in the dunes you'll be gone for a few hours. Please give to us your top 5 list of items to take with you. I'm hoping to see tools, parts, food/water, safety items. What are those items?
jwalk brings: Camelpack filled with liquid, gps, money, small tool kit, tire plugs w/co2 pump.
As I look at my list I sure don't see any safety items like matches or fire or even a flair guun. kinda humble-ing

You dont need a flare gun Jack, A DS makes lots of smoke when properly ignited..... they will find you [8D]
Maybe if I put this topic in another section I can learn from you folks.

Too much to list. I carry all of Bunk n Teri's list + much more. We had a topic once where people listed what the carry. Interesting to see how prepared some are & how some totally rely on others....Good topic.

1) A buddy, never ride alone.
2) Water, Water, and water for your buddy.
3) A pancho, Blocks the wind and sand.
4) GPS if you have one, Make sure to set your first waypoint as camp.
5) Know how long or far your quad will go on one tank of gas. If you
don't know, take extra.
Don't bother with Matches or Lighters for fire. Nothing to burn but sand.
6) A flash light. If your riding at night, the light will give you
comfort even if all you can see is sand.
7) Tow strap. Nothing better then being towed in by a sandrail. And
forget about trying to push it in. Even on flat ground its a b@#$H
(Mabey some cash on hand for the tow)
8) Tools, Only do you good if you know how to use them.
And number nine you realy can't take with you but is just as important
9) Preventative Maintenance. Oil Changes, Oil filter,Spark Plugs, Tires for leaks-holes, Clean air filters- Filter Socks are the best. I can't count the number of times I have had friends out there and something goes wrong that could have been prevented had they done a little work before getting out there.

Had that Key let go 2 times pinned in 6th gear. Getting towed in is no fun.
