There, I started it...

I am looking more forward to this race than any other I've probably ever raced. Not just because we'll have the Playa Bonita to ourselves... or backing the ol' Toy Hauler right up to the ocean views... or even the Salt Water Hot Tub... not even the fun race it presents....... OH NO MY FRIENDS... it is because I should have a release from the doc Dec 3rd to mount the mighty steel steed and ride once again... OH YES! RIDE I SHALL... not sure I can race 100% being off for so long, but I can't wait!

It appears that we will have a rather LARGE group there again this year. The more the merrier! Secure your spot now - Ben has the phone number.

Who's going? Who's charged up and ready to go down and have some fun?!!!!

Should definitely have MY bike back by Mexico. Just found out the shop can't locate a wrist pin bearing for my new piston though. It's always something. Elsinore is getting mighty close! Anyone else going besides Todd Davis, Kyle Beshaw, Richard Birchfield and myself?

I am thinking of doing this one, but I need some feedback from you guys on how this is done down there. I feel a little uneasy taking my quad down there. Insurance for south of the bordor? As long as I am fully covered insurance wise, then I am cool with it. Anyone has any light they can shed on this?

I used to worry about it too, but since I've been doing the Baja stuff Rocky Point or should I say far Southern Az is a walk in the park. Don't worry about it. There are a lot of racers there at the same time doing the same things. Power in numbers.

Mexico inurance is a good idea in theory, but does it actually work????

from what i hear we have to have a title in order to bring it back to the US? If that is the case, then I still need to get my quad titled..... I havn't submitted the paperwork yet because of it being an aftermarket frame, still trying to figure how to go about that. But if that is the case, then I need to hurry, lol....

You can acquire Mexico Insurance at an approved location on the US side of the border. Most of these insurance agents have contracts with large (and reputable) Mexican Insurance companies, and a few years back you could also get contracts from American Insurance companies, but I don't know if you can still get any. You basically insure the dollar amount of your bike, for the number of days you will be in Mexico, and the agent will figure out the premium amount based on that.
Proper proof of ownership documents are very Important to have, due to Customs on both the US and Mex side. If you have an aftermarket frame without the original serial number, it could be a problem. I don't know. Maybe if you had the original receipt of the frame or a State title registration might help.
Sounds a little complicated, but it's more like just filling a bunch of paperwork. Good Luck.

Check out the SON for insurance. I think its in Why at a Chevron, that's were a bunch of us get it. I used to use AAA but they got too expensive. Most insurance carriers I've found won't cover the bikes/quads/toys...

You must get ins on the vehicles though.

With respect to paperwork, a COO, title, copy of title, et al will work. Been pulled over and inspected a few times and had any of the above and all was well.

I've never been asked for it coming back home. If you are pulled over coming back, because you have a trailer or RV, it will be scanned for drugs, humans et al via infrared red.

The fires are not threatening that area right now. Glen Helen had it's water system burned up and the Vet Nationals are still happening this weekend. I doubt much could cancel Elsinore. Way too much planning and work involved. I can't imagine the amount of lobbying it takes to run an off-road race through a city in California these days. Come on Ben, dig through those cobwebs and lay down the bones.

It's a 100 mile desert race from Sonoyta Mexico (just across border south of Ajo) to Rocky Point. The first 20-30 miles is rocky, washed out and fun. The rest is typical Mexico sand, silt, whoops and wide open. A 125 would definately have a hard time, but i've seen them down there before coming across the finish line. Jet it super rich and don't work it so hard in the deep silt.

There are potentially 5 pit stops (Curio Shop, Goat Farm, La Pinta Beach, Well Road, Highway). The trick of course is to have your gas can there.

Whiplash sends a truck out to the goat farm with your fuel.( about the half way point. ) You can always pit there & they will help you with your fueling & send you on your way. The truck will return fuel cans to the RASH truck after the race. Makes it easy if you are alone & have no pit crew.

Phil, thanks for bringing this up... Having fuel at the halfway point will be most helpful, though I am concerned I might not make it that far, this thing is one hell of a gas guzzler.....

Now I am wondering though after the race, how do I get back to the starting point.... I sure as hell dont want to ride 115 miles back....
