View Full Version : "Roll Call" Buttercup/Midway Nov 7,8,9
I went ahead and locked the previous topic (http://ridingarizona.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6967) as to not confuse anyone:(.
This is the official "Roll Call" for Nov 7,8,9 at Buttercup/Midway:D. All planning on attending please post an "I", "WE or an "US" so that we can try to secure the correct amount of space, in an effort to keep the group all in the same area[:0]. Thanx for your support, We hope to see you out there.[:p]
O.K. Members we are going out to Midway Nov.7,8,9 for a ton of dunes fun. There will be Hill racing, big bowling, site seeing, and lots of campfire fun.
Fri.- Arrival during the day. camp set-up and general riding. Test at night.
Sat.- Long ride sight seeing, this will be about a 70 mile round trip. We will be able to get gas at the Glamis store. Ride will include such attractions as Patton valley, Camp Ogilby, China Wall, Olds Hill, Glamis Comp, Osbourne overlook, and finishing up at the Sand Drags. Test at Night
Sun.-General riding maybe a trip to the Mexican Blow Hole.
If this looks like an interest to you. Let us know if you'll be attending. This is not a Riding Arizona event. You will be responsible for compliance with all rules and regulations pertaining to the ISDRA. (See Sand box section for these rules and regs).
Bring every thing you need to sustain yourselves and for three days two nights.
(If you'd like to do Saturdays long ride(70 miles), Be sure to bring some extra money for lunch and gas at the Glamis Beach store; I'll try to have an idea of gas prices at the store before we leave. If your bike requires specialty fuel i suggest you buy any additive you may need before getting out to the dunes. i.e. Octane buster,2-stroke oils)

Put us down for four people, two adults, two kids. Myself, Suzy, Hailey and Lindsey. We will have a 36' RV, flatbed trailer, four quads and one plane.
We are staying until the 10th (Monday). Hope a few others can stay the extra day too.

We are in. The whole family plus my son's friend. 35' motorhome w/ trailer. Will arrive Friday evening, stay till Sunday afternoon. Got the paddle tires and flags on, Safety certification and all necessary documentation!!![8D]

Let me know! I'll bring the fixins' both trips if you want. Then again, after Buttercup, you may not want Moosetinis!! Glenn's suggesting my famous "cocoa's" for the Buttercup trip.
He also wants Shannon to know he can't mount his GPS on the new Foreman till he gets his new RAM Mount:(

Moose...We could provide you with a healthy balance of dune instruction. My expertise definately resides more with actual riding;)...while Suzi does her share of riding, she is a pro when it comes to finding the cool hang out spots to grab a drink;):D. I'm up fer both!! I do love bowling so anyone up for taking this chick on a bowling adventure (and I don't mean the kind with a ball in an alley[^]) please let me know. I will not lead as I suck at that...I do make a competetive follower though. My bike was serviced this summer and is feeling good...can't wait to try her out!!!

Well I think we might try this sand thing if you all don't mind. We had plans for stoneman this coming weekend and since they recieved some snow this morning (it didnt stick around) we have come to the conclusion that it most likely is COLD.... Sooo since you all seem to promise a good time and if our sportsman won't look to out of place, we want to meet you all. Is there anything we need to be prepared for, or special that we need to bring along? Can someone shoot me the directions and anything we need to look out for.

Directions to Butterup/Midway:
Take I 8 west past Yuma to Grays Well exit. The exit will curve south then west. Stop at pay station to purchase permit, then go straight about 2 miles and turn left at Midway camp area. We'll be there somewhere. Look for the RA logo.

Lastly....if you need anything from the RA Store....order up and I will bring the goods to the party. I do not bring merchandise with me unless there are orders. 3 bears, what time and day will ya be coming? I just dont want ya guys to have trouble finding us. We will have a 35 ft motorhome tan and white and we should have an american flag flying. I also know Jwalk will be towing a 30 ft gear box with a blue chevy Avalanche.Hope this helps.

We see a vareity of bikes out there and many of the utilities do very well. So, come out and experience the soft sand!!! Just lower the air pressure in your tires and start on the smaller hills. YOu may get stuck a couple of times, but, getting unstuck isn't too hard...ask me...I get stuck a lot!!! If you're climbing a hill and start to lose power, just give it gas and turn around. there is a lot of flatter area to ride around in Buttercup...you can ride all the way to Mexico...which isn't very far:)

Only I looked Foollish on my Sportsman out there but I did fine.
I tried the computition hill and could only make it 3/4 of the way out. I realized I had 7 pounds of pressure and lowered it to about 4psi. You'll make it up but slower than anyone else...LOL

I have never been out to the dunes, but would really like to go. I am working on a trailer to sleep in for the weekend, maybe rent one. Anybody got any suggestions???

I wish i could join you but my big fat yellow quads can't make that long of a run they don't hold enough fuel[:I] I will have to hang out in camp and build sandcastles with the kids that are too little too ride:(Maybe i can help the cooks peel potatos[:p] YEA RIGHT IM DUNING[}:)]

Cruise America in Mesa rents Class C RV's...They're doable, but it'll cost ya a few bucks. They even have a a Toy Hauler style rig that you can put your bike into...it' works great!

OK -- If it's not too late count me in :D Not sure if the wife will be with me or not -she's asleep & has to work for a living .... After talking with The Moose I have to go...We have Malamutes to discuss:) I will be pulling a Pro-trac trailer with a Silver Dodge Quad cab. Plan to arrive Friday mid morning if others are going to be there. Looks like from what I have read that the group is meeting along the paved Mid-way camp area - How far down the road ? The area where the road starts up the hill or up & over ?
Anyone else riding a dirt bike ? I will have a quad & a bike if anyone else is riding bikes.
Looking very forward to meeting some of the faces behind the names.

Ratherb, Yes we are plannnig on camping at Midway, as far as how far down[?] At least a ways past the dumpster, I would just say look for the RA sign we will have out or look for Jwalks blue Avalanche Truck and his Gear Box toyhauler. Also you and your family are very welcome to come!!! Also there will be Bunks Rampage trailer too. About what time on Fri? I will keep an eye out while Im babysittin at camp!!;)[8D]

I'm on my own this weekend.... Wife has work ect...ect....said "we just got back" I think she actually needs a "Non-Neil" Weekend...[:0] Some of you may see why after this weekend...;) So, thank you for the offer Moose. I will be hitting Mid-way 10ish Friday morning. I am bring the KXF400 & Tecate 3 so it's all Green for me this weekend. Really getting pumped up to hit the dunes ----- It's been 4 days & I already can't wait.
Looking forward to seeing everyone & doing so good dune running. Are we going to do the "circle th wagons" ? Not sure you can do that off the roadway there at Mid-Way...

are there usually alot of bike's at the sand dunes??? never been there, just curios
of all the things ive lost, i miss my mind the most...
Need Help!!!!!!!
I stripped wifeys front lugs[xx(]:( (Polaris Scrambler 500).
If anyone can get thier hand on 8 lugs and bring them out we'd be much appreciative. If not no big deal she just wont have front sand tires.

Is there anyone else that doesn't have sleeping accomodations? I am looking into renting a rv and it wouldn't hurt to have 2 or 3 people sharing the bill, let me know SOON!!!

Just received a call from Suzy, Shannon, Jack & Jackie
(Teri, Bunk just pulled in so he is safe too...)
Midway is full. They gave me the following directions:
Exit Gray's Well, go up and around the freeway so that you are heading west. Stop at the pay station and give them the money. Go down the curvy road and keep going straight over the big hill. Go past the block restrooms and you should see the signs for RA about 200 yards past the potties. This is verbatem, so don't blame 'The Moose', they just asked me to post it. Jack's cell #(480)220-9141.
Also, Jack needs 8 lug nuts for a Polaris 2002 Scrambler 400 front tires. He thinks they are 7/16 or 9/16. If anyone could help him out, I'm sure he'll kiss your feet....

A to Z rentals on east Indian School and Antelers RV both rent pop-up trailers. Pretty reasonable prices if you don't feel like springing for a motorhome. A to Z has them for $60.00 per day last time I checked.

What a great trip it was!! Saw old friends and met some new. AND I MADE IT UP CONSTIPATION HILL ON MY FIRST TRY!!!! Don't think I wasn't stoked about that!! Thank you Jackie for showing me how, and a BIG thank you to Steve for getting me unstuck when I got spooked. I think I was up to my knees in the sand and I would have never been able to turn that quad around by myself.

Great weekend!!! Aside from breaking my bike the last day, I had lots of fun!! It was great meeting Glen and Jean (aka: the Moose)...thanks for keeping Jake company!!! I think Jessi kinda misses 'ol Bouncer jumpin all over her!!!:D;) I look forward to seeing you at Dome Rock in a couple of weeks!!
Wilson gang...as always, we had a blast hanging with ya!! Can't wait to do it all again in 2 weeks!! Don't forget the fire wood!!!;)
