I'm looking for a golf cart just to toole around my neighborhood, and I know absolutely nothing about them. I know I don't wanna spend a mint, but that's about it. Is there anything to stay away from? Gas or elecrtic? Any leads? I'm really kinda shootin in the dark here guys.

LOL! Too funny! Yeah, that prolly falls into the "mint" category, like Kevin said. Any other helpful info? LOL
I have never owned a golf cart before. So this is just my opinion.
I think that if you are just going to tool around the neighborhood and cruise around speedworld or when you are camping, it doesn't need a ton of power, so Electric might be the way to go.
And the EZ-go's have cheaper lift kits, but electric is weak.
But when you start getting into those 24 horsepower gas motors, then the carts seem to jump in price to the cost of a clean used Jeep.
Check this one out. It's cheap and a blank canvas and ready for your personalization.
I'm sure you will get a ton of Opinions. Good luck. Danny (Snafu) has a nice cart.

Kinda what I had in mind Kevin. Cheap, blank canvas...couldn't have described what I'm looking for better.
Anyone know of what brands are better? What to stay away from? Etc...
And btw - Danny's cart and how useful it was at the BTH race is what got me started on this! LOL!
I recently bought a Club Car gas golf cart. 6" lift, 22" tires, stock 9 hp Kawasaki motor. Well built, lots of information on it and other brands at buggiesunlimited.com. My friend's EZ Go (16hp Briggs motor) has held up well with a lot of duning abuse. I would go with a gas cart over electric. Guess it depends if you want it to be quiet or not. The electric ones are quite a bit cheaper. I guess EZ Go, Yamaha, and Club Car would be the major brands.

Thanks guys. I'm a member of buggiesunlimited.com now and have gotten tons of info there. This weekend I bought an '02 EZ-GO PDS for $900. It's bone stock, but it runs and looks just fine. Upgrades already in the works!

Yeah, kinda what I was thinkin. It's a 36v electric, but I'm kinda diggin that. Quiet and not so common. And being an electronics tech, it kinda makes sense for me. Already added a couple jumper wires in the controller and better cables for the batteries and motor that upped the torque a bit and increased the top speed from 12 to 18 mph. That's not bad for $0 and considering there is one bad battery in the string. The lift and tires I'm going with should bring it right up close to 25 mph, and that's all I want. Probably upgrade the controller and motor after that to get some more torque, and then it'll be just play stuff to add. Lights, tunes, stuff like that. I figure I'll have a cart that would bring $3500 (if I needed) for about $2k.
