More than 25 years ago I road in Az. most every winter. This one time we road The Trail of Death from south of Ajo along the Border to a wind mill in the center of nowhere and then North to Tacna. It took a day and a half to do it. Had to get a permit from the Rangers at Ajo. Very long ride but pretty easy. We took along and extra gal. of gas each and we needed it. Stayed all night at the wind mill in a line shack. The History of the Trail of Death is it was an easy way to California in the covered wagon days but very dry and no water, so lots of people died on that trail.
Has anyone did this trail in the last few years?

I've never heard of it. Sounds like something to explore. A good number of our members will be interested in this ride.

I did this ride on an XR250 that I made highway legal. We rode from Tucson to Ajo, got the permits. Then we rode the highway just southeast of Ajo to the road (just past the tailings) that goes to the right. We took that dirt road to the North entrance of Organ Pipe Cactus Nat'l Mon.,then road on South to the Trail of Death which goes West through Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuse and the Gov. Bombing Range. The Trail sometimes is next to the Border Fence. Very interesting Ride but maybe a road legal bike would be best. To check on this the Gov. office or land management office is just on the North side of Ajo.

Thanks for the information. We're always looking for new places to explore. I'll give the Ajo offices a call today and see what is required now, to do this ride. THANKS for the great suggestion.
