Hey guys. I was hoping you guys could steer me towards the BEST Yamaha Rhino forums.......

I was just put into a cast and referred to a hand surgeon today, so I believe my bike is for sale in favor of a long travel Rhino. Maybe we'll be doing some rides soon?

thanks
Brian

Before you buy a long travel Rhino, you need to go to Desert Dog Offroad in Fountain Hills.

They built a Rhino type vehicle using a 650 V-twin, EFI Rotax from a Can Am Outlander. It has 54 HP stock, much more than a Rhino, and the engine/clutch system will allow a lot more HP to built into the system. The vehicle has long travel (I believe 18") and is BUILT as a four seater.

They are planning on building one using a Rotax 800 V-twin EFI motor, 62 HP stock. [:0]:D

Its a really cool RUV. I'll try to get some photos of it.:D

That does sound like a sweet ride. Get that baby street legal, and do wheelies all over maracopa county;)

If you do get a Rhino, I know KMS is doing alot of performance work with them as well, so you should give 'em a call....:)

Yeah, the black one.

I was up there this weekend ordering Elka shocks for my DS650 and took some photos.

They really thought about the design and it should work really well in the dunes or trails. They even made it so the shocks can release and allow the vehicle to fit in toyhaulers. :D

By the way, it is a 4 X 4, they are waiting on the axles from a vender. Desert Dog uses the engine and drive train from the Outlander quad, so you get a quality power plant and drive train that has room for performance mods, meaning the CVT system can handle upgraded HP.

A new forum for Yamaha Rhino, Polaris Ranger, and Polaris RZR Enthusiasts. Pretty much everything dealing with Side X Side is www.sidexsideforum.com

There is a great group of members so far and growing quickly. Stop by and share your stories and pictures.

Hmmmm while that new vehicle from Desert Dog does look pretty cool... I would still stick with something tried and true. Otherwise, YOU get to be the test and if for any reason the company goes under, your gonna pay a bit more for fixes. Without actually seeing it in person the extended arms look somewhat suspect, awfully long and not too beefy, why not box them? I can't really tell what the rear seats are on top of, but if it is the motor or exhaust OUCH! Not to mention the shocks are not coil over (kinda look like the ones I paid $20.00 at a local parts store for my old golf cart), but they do "release?" .....and they are "waiting" on the axles....... still not a true 4x4 (yet.) Hey I admit, I love my Rhino and with the mods done (inexpensively) I am pushing 60mph!

Anyone can "MAKE" a motor fit - but will it fit and work together with the rest of the vehicle is why the big boys in our business spend millions of dollars in R&D.

As far as the forum question, SideXSide or Black Rhino are great, but what the heck is wrong with this one!

Silverrhino- How about a list of your inexpensive mods on your 60 mph rhino? I need some guidance. Thanks

Here is what I did...
KMS Sheave 125
CDI 200
intake kit with clamp on filter 90
larger exhaust tip 50
Total $465 + labor if you can't install the stuff.
Last but not least, stock size tires and rims. That should get you 60 to 62 mph, or darn close to it.

Okay sorry for not responding sooner!

Most of my mods are the same as azcourts - maybe different manufactures. Should be the same results. I can say they can be done for somewhat less than his prices, but you have to like the place you buy your stuff and the service after the sale! For example, when I bought my sheave - there was a "core charge" of $125. When I brought my old one back, the shop noticed I had not changed out a plastic washer/spacer and questioned me about it. If they had not done so - the future of my drive would have been questionable at best! They removed the part I had missed and I went home and reinstalled the new sheave. One thing I do recommend, that is a lot more expensive is to replace the shocks. I have heard great things about many brands, but chose to go with KINGS, as they have been around a while on the off road race circuit and they will fully rebuild them - in the good 'ol U.S. of A.

Again seconding azcourts mods - for a relatively inexpensive price, if you do it yourself - you save a BUNCH of money! The hardest install is the sheave. I have offered before to help anyone (within a reasonable distance - as you do need an impact wrench) do it for free, hell I will even give you the grease for the new sheave!

BUT here are some new ones with the new shoes out at 11.5 and at home all dirty after the fun!

As you can see, the "new" shoes are on. I really like them. ITP Sport Locks with Terra Cross R/T's - Stock size. In the future, I would like to see a tire/wheel set that has 12 inch rears and 14 inch fronts, as I think it should help the steering.

Have fun and be safe!
