View Full Version : Paddle air pressure
Just picked up a set of Kenda Geckos (21x11x10) on Douglas Red Label alum rims. Just wanted to know what kind of air pressure you all are running in yours for the dunes? It's been 14 years since I was at Glamis last, and I think age is getting the best of me. I can't remember what I used to run in the paddles I had then. Any help is appreciated.

it should say the recommended amount on the side of the tire, my best bet would be to go a couple pounds under the recomendation, but then again i have never been to the dunes....

I would suggest running Gecko's on the soft side (like 2-3 PSI). Most molded sand tires tend to be a little stiff and low pressure will soften them right up.
It also depends on the quad you have them mounted on. Lower pressure means more traction and will bog a lower horsepower motor, where the increase traction will let a more powerful quad fly up the hill.
Anything from a 400EX on up I'd go with 3, If you have a 300EX, Warrior, Blaster, or Trailblazer etc.., I'd go with 5.

duneDS650,
Thanks for the recommendation. I have an '03 Trail Boss, so it sounds like 5 lbs is the ticket. I appreciate the help.

JandC, I suggest also taking your knobbies for the Trail Boss. Run them at 3 PSI and those 489's work pretty well on that quad (depending on how much tread is left). It would be interesting to compare them.

I run mine at 3-4 lbs. Seems to work good.
Thanks to all for the good advice. The Geckos just arrived in the mail & i'm anxious to get them on the bike. I will be taking the 489's for backup just in case. We're heading to Gordons Well instead of Glamis the weekend before Thanksgiving with about 4 guys. With the new white clutch spring & the paddles, I should be set. Rode 4 Peaks for the first time since installing that spring and I can't believe what a difference it made. Roughly 5 extra mph on the top end, really nice mid-range punch, & the rpm's build real fast. First time back to the dunes in 14 years. Woo hoo![8D]
