First, I bought a Rhino because the Ranger and Prowler do not fit in my enclosed trailer (without modification).
Second, buying from the RideNow!/Motorsports group was out-of-the-question on principle.
Since all the local Yamaha dealers are associated with RideNow!, my search began outside the PHX metro area.
I wanted a basic 2007 660 in Red, I like the SE, but didn't want to pay extra for the wheels that I knew I wanted to replace with beadocks.
1st call - Four Seasons Motorsports, we all know how that went.
2nd call - Northland Motorsports - $10,786 OTD, not good, but not bad. Nothing in stock of course, wanted $500 deposit to be first on the waiting list so I gave them my VISA number. Getting a delivery mid-Nov.
3rd call - Kanab Country Yamaha UT - $9599 OTD, better, but I would need to pay AZ tax to get it registered (approx. $700). Sign me up, none in stock, OK when? December not good but put me down for one, no deposit required. Talked with Artie and Rich, very nice guys. The plan, pick it up, stop by Coral Pink, fun roadtrip.
Now I'm on two waiting lists. Talk with a Flagstaff local and hear that Northland does not have the best rep for being honest. Get nervous and make some more calls.
4th call - Stephen Wade St. George $10,000 OTD nothing in stock wants $500 deposit. I've already got $500 in play, decide no.
5th call - Eastside Cycle in Tucson, no answer, closed Mondays
6th call - All Pro Cycle, Globe, no answer
7th call - Desert recreation, Bullhead City, no answer
How do these people stay in business?
I printed out all the dealers in Colo, New Mex and Nevada (as far as I am willing to drive) but decide to search the web.
Lake Hill Motors in Mississippi, talk with Sanford, $8699 OTD, smokin' deal, problem tax and shipping. He talks to a buddy and he can bring it to Peoria for $1000. Add $700 tax, still a pretty good deal, let's do it. Can't get a unit until Dec, darn. Put me down, Sanford didn't "feel right' about taking a deposit so soon, really nice guy.
Now I'm on three lists and nervous about my $500 with the bad-rep guys. Call Northland and cancel my deposit. No problem deposit returned, no questions asked. OK that wasn't so bad, make mental note Northland might be OK in the future.
So now I'm waiting around for December to arrive and I stumble on a post on www.glamisdunes.com: 2006 SE 660 OTD $10,200. I call immediately and talk to Nick at Rhino Crap, they're in Glendale and have two, first come first served. I like the blue color and leave skid marks in the parking lot at work. I get my money (cashier's Check) and arrive at I-17 and Glendale. Sure enough, two SE's brand new all the paperwork. They sell them without the SE wheels, just black, but like I said those are getting replaced anyway. Hey, they got wheels too, how much, smokin' deal, sign me up for four. Nick could not have been nicer and they have a great stock of Rhino crap (hence the name) at very good prices. I highly recommend shopping at their store. The MSO took a while making me think it's stolen, but I picked it up today, so all-good.
That's my story, one 2006 SE in my garage, I can't wait to take it to the dunes for T-Day.
Hopefully this story helps others who may be considering purchasing one of these popular machines. You can PM me if you want more details or specifics.
