Does anybody know of any places to ride in or near Chandler ? I moved to Chandler at the end of August and didn't get a bike till yesterday. Now I just need to find some places to ride and some people to ride with. If anybody knows of any good riding areas close by, I would really appretiate your help.
Thanks

There's nowhere to ride in Chandler and most of the desert immediately south of Chandler is Indian reservation so there's no riding there. What kind of riding (mx, two-track, singletrack, easy, or technical) are you looking for?

Kato - Where do you usually ride ? Or what is the closest place you would recommend ? Oh, and what are single tracks and two-tracks ? Thanks
All of the riding I have done has been on open land and trails. I have never riden on a track, mx or other. I just got a new bike yesterday, so I don't really want my first ride to be anywhere really technical. Just some open desert would be really cool. But after I get used to this bike's handeling I would love to tackle a mx track. I figured there probably wouldn't be anywhere significant in Chandler. I just want to find some places within 20 minutes or so of my house, if there are any.

The Desert Wells area east of Queen Creek is State Trust Land and is open for riding if you have a permit. I just got a map yesterday and noticed what appears to be 3 entry points from the west side at the end of Skyline Dr. I've been out there before but have always entered from US 60 (MM201?)
My map says you take Ocotillo Road east to Schnepf Road. Go south to Skyline Dr, then east to Gate 11. Gates 9 & 10 are a mile or so south on Cooper Rd. The area extends east to hwy 79 and north to US 60.
I am going to take a ride out there today to check it out. It's about 20 miles from downtown Chandler.

Yea it is actually MP 207 off US 60 for that side

WeeeRacing, congratulations on the new bike. I understand not wanting to take it on a technical ride just yet. I have a 300EXC and I like riding singletrack. Singletrack is a motorcycle only trail, it's just wide enough for a bike. Two-track trail would be wide enough for a quad or jeep.
Desert Wells is a good open area and sounds like it's not too far. It's been years since i've been out in that area so I just might have to make a trip out there sometime. Another open area would be the Butterfield trail west of the town of Maricopa. It's on BLM land on the north side of hwy 238.

What kind of permit do I need to ride at Dessert Wells ? Do you know where or how I can get one ? And where can I get the map ?
Kato -
Single, double, doesn't matter. I've been waiting to ride anywhere, but I probably won't until next weekend. What's BLM ? Do you mean Maricopa county or is there a town too ?

Has anybody heard of Deer Creek ?
Thanks guys

That area is State Trust Land. You need a recreation permit. It costs $15/year. See this site:
http://www.land.state.az.us/programs/natural/rec_offroad_permit.htm
I went down there to get my new permit and picked up a map. I'm sure they will send you one if you apply by mail.
The fine can be up to $500 if caught w/o a permit, i.e. trespassing.
BTW, I took a ride (streetbike) out there last weekend. It's more like 30 miles from my house. One of these days i'll load up the XR and check it out.
I'm not sure if you've heard of the Pima and Dynamite area (Granite Mountain)? One of the best riding areas around IMHO. Tons of singletrack. It's also about 30 or so miles from Chandler and also State trust land. I was out there last Friday. Lotsa mud and water and zero dust. Absolutely perfect conditions.

Do you have to apply by mail, or can you go to the office ? Do you get it right on the spot ? By the way, thanks for all the info. Maybe a couple of us could get together and go ride when I get my permit.

If there's anywhere we can go without a permit I'd go this weekend probably. If I can get the permit by this weekend then I'd definetly be up for some riding. I hope I can keep up with you lol. I've heard there's nothin faster than those 500's

Check the top post in the Riders Guide forum. There is a lot of info on the State Trust Land Permit as well as a list of places you can get one.

Did you check out any of the trails mentioned?
I am new rider in Gilbert looking for someone to ride with on weekends. Nothing too crazy.
