I was hunting coues deer in Unit 33 the last couple weekends. No, I didn't "get any". Like most years, I didn't even get to take a shot. The little deer are like 80lb mountaingoats and live in very remote and rocky areas of the high desert. They can lay down in the vegetation and are VERY hard to spot.

I was using Pentax binos, 8X40s & 20X50s, and a Bushnell 12-36X60 spotter.

It was a fun couple couple weekends though.

I have hunted 33 a few times. I came home empty handed on my Coues deer hunt this year also.

Units 28, 31 or 32 are usually good areas!

I didn't see any this year but last year I saw 75 in one "herd". [:0]

I've hunted 31 before, in the Pinaleno Mountain range near Safford. I did actually see bucks there.

My partner and I put a good stalk on one, but a freakin bear scared it minutes before he was in position. I was watching through binos and not able to get my rifle up in time. That's the ONLY bear I've ever seen in-person, in the wild. We had been watching the bear off and on all day, that's what helped us identify the nearby buck. We figured that since the deer hadn't moved yet, we had some time. Wrong. That was December 2000.

Nice Office. I've been to several like it.....they always seem like the best places to be when you have to work:D
