Elk and Antelope Applications Up

The new 2007 Elk and Antelope draw information is up on the AZG&F website. You can put in now with the paper applications but the computer application process won't be opperational until sometime in early January.

The on-line application process is working now. I will say it took me about 3 times to get it to work. I kept forgetting to check my name once it is entered for each genus. Now the waiting starts.

I did mine last night. Not a single issue, worked flawlessly. I'm not gonna stress over the next cpl months. Hopefully time will fly by. I'm manking a note tho to remember to apply for Deer in May.

I really don't fret about it. I have gotten my share of elk and antelope tags over the years. It will make it nice now since I have in the past put in for archery elk in November and Coues deer at the same time. Two years ago I drew both tags and it made it a little hectic.

Well everyone, I got my app's in finaly. I got there a little after 6:30pm today. I almost forgot about having to send them in so I filled them out and went this evening and handed them in. Did anyone else wait till the last minute?

This is the first year in a long time that I didn't have to drive out there and drop them off. Also the first time we tried doing it online.

There will be no better chance to get drawn than this year. I am sure many people missed the date so our chances to get a tag improved a little. :)

Must be before April 16 since that is the date for applications for left over tags.

Just called the game and fish, the drawing is taking place the end of march or beginning of april.

"New elk and antelope draw garners record applications

Arizona's first-ever separate draw for elk and antelope last month garnered a record number of applicants.

"We worked long and hard to spread the word about the new draw for elk and antelope," said Leonard Ordway, the Arizona Game and Fish Department's game branch chief. "We were pleased to see a record number of people applied for antelope permits and the elk application number was almost the same as last year."

The application numbers were:

Species 2007 2006

Elk 102,325 102,653
Antelope 36,813 31,435
Total 139,138 134,088

Ordway said this new early drawing was actually created at the request of hunters themselves. The new draw allows them to find out whether or not they are drawn for elk and antelope prior to applying for deer, turkey and other species.

"This is better customer service all the way around. We're glad to see it is working out so well and judging by the application numbers, it looks like most everyone got the word. With the large number of hunters, that is quite an accomplishment in itself," Ordway says."

How interesting. [:0] I had heard from a couple of sources that applications were down 40%. ;) I think it is a cover up. :D
