For all of you real racers out there, I have a few questions. I am consideringdoing the snowflake or wickenburg race this year. Probably wickenburg because I am unsure of my schedule at the end of the month. First off, I see that Prescott runs the third and 4th of this month, but snowflake only runs on the first, but wickenburg also runs two days. Why are there two days and then only one day? Do different classes run on different days, or is one day for pre-running, practice etc...

Secondly, if there is no practice, how does one know the course? Simply follow the arrows? Are the courses typically the same every year? If I wanted to ride a course for practice during other parts of the year would someone "guide" me. I have been riding for years, and consider myself a good rider, but have never raced. I have Mtn Bike raced....FWIW,

Of all of the races in the season, which one is the best one for newbies like my self.

What is the difference between the 900 (first timer) and the 500(beginner) classes. I would love to go and help PIT some race, so I can get to know it better. Does WhipLash take / need volunters?

fill me in here, I think my PIG is gettin a little restless rollin around rolls...

Prescott - Saturday PEEWEEs n Practice -Sunday Bikes n ATVs
Snowflake - Saturday Buggies n Trucks - Sunday Bikes n ATVs
Wickenburg - Saturday Buggies n Trucks - Sunday Bikes n ATVs

Normally there is a practice session or Poker run for the racers.

Snowflake is prob the best for newbies.

900s are anyone who is racing Whiplash for the first time.

500s are the under 40 crowd that are beginners.

Most of the local bike shops have a stack of Southwest Offroad News sitting around, grab one, it's the news paper of Whiplash.

All Whiplash desert races are on Sunday with exception to the Mexico races which are on Saturday. If there is a prerun, they will generally do it the day before the race (saturday). You can not prerun Mexico.
The Snowflake prerun is always the morning of the race (sunday the 1st) with all races on the same day. They split up the bike races because of the number of riders, and they have a seperate race for all quads.

Secondly, if there is no practice, how does one know the course? Simply follow the arrows? Are the courses typically the same every year? If I wanted to ride a course for practice during other parts of the year would someone "guide" me. I have been riding for years, and consider myself a good rider, but have never raced. Typically all the race courses are the same every year with a few little differences. They run Wickenburge backwards every other year. If you are not allowed to prerun you just follow the arrows and markers. It is impossible to memorize an entire course on one prerun lap. It is more for just getting an eye on the terrain, and the speed of the course for bike setup. So if you can't prerun don't worry about it.

Of all of the races in the season, which one is the best one for newbies like my self.

SNOWFLAKE is the perfect first race.

The 900 class is the first time racers class. Kinda lets you and Whiplash see where you would fall in. They compare your times to all other classes and place you where you belong.

Like I said many times before. Desert racing is nothing more than an extra long trail ride where you don't have to stop and wait for your friends. Ride as fast or as slow as you want. Stop and take a leak if you want, Although you won't want to.

Whiplash loves volunteers, but I wouldn't want to get tangled in their web.

Pitting sucks. You need to just get out there and do it. The first one is the hardest to do, but then you won't be able to wait for the next one. The next thing you know you will be hooked.

Killer signature line! Kinda' mesmorized me for a minute. Can you make an animation for me that has the bike make a couple of funny noises and them coast to a stop with the rear wheel locked up. That would be great.

On a serious note, you will find more than enough help on RA if you want to start desert racing and you are welcome in my pit at any race (If I am actually at a race, and not waiting in my garage for the UPS guy to show up with a small box of very expensive shiny things with fine print japanese writing on their packages)

Dude, them's pretty harsh words comin' from a guy who sits atop 1980's technology. Must be pretty cool though, to know that every year all ya' gotta' do is order a sticker kit and you have an '01, '02, '03, etc!

Hey BRP,
We need to get our pigs together one of these days...
What side of town are you on?

<< PIG OWNERS UNITE >>

BTW Cool pic...Do you hve the picture uploaded onto the RA Site, and then put the HTML Code in, or do you have it somewhere else?

What code did you use to add it to your signature. Mine works, but It points to another web site to get the picture.

They run the 900's at the same time as the Pro's, so No_Kaw_Honies be fealing NO love.

Pros will be half way around the track before the last 900 blasts off <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>
