For any and all that are here in the valley we are heading up to Crown King for the day. This is approximately a 70 mile round trip ride, however fuel is available in Crown King.
We will all meet at the South EAST corner of I-17 and the Carefree Highway Saturday morning between 8:00 and 8:30. There is a large lot we can park at until we are all there. From there we will stage somewhere on the Lake Pleasant road.
Bring a coat, as we may experience snow on the top. We plan on getting a bite at the Mill, or elsewhere so bring some cash... We should be back to the vehicles by late afternoon.
All of you 2 strokers need to make accomidations for fuel. One Idea I recently heard is to bring an empty water bottle with enough oil in it that you want to mix. let's say one gallon of fuel. pump gas into the bottle to mix it, pour it in the tank, and then only pump the remaining one gallon into the tank. You will have to determine how much fuel you will consume in 35 miles, and bring the right amount of premix.

Please note I have made a change to the prestage area. Originally, I said the southwest corner, I meant the SOUTHEAST corner of Carefree Hwy and I-17. Thanks to Quincykid for pointing that out...

We can all take care of each other, as no one person should be held responsible for everyone on a ride. Right?
PS. If there's puddles out there PHIL has to ride in the back.:D
I barely made it under a huge wave the last trip up there with him.

Thats a old racer's tip I learned from El-Gato. If there is mud, splash your competitors, if it's dusty, drag your feet[}:)]

This ride sounds like a blast! But, I may be stuck without a ride this weekend. Is anyone going from North Scottsdale that has room for me and a bike? I'm in the Scottsdale Rd/Pinnacle Peak area.

All,
Thanks to everyone that participated. I had a great time, and I hope you all did too. Now for the Bad News....
I just heard from Dan, Gerry's friend via voicemail. Gerry had to be air evacked (sp?) out. He has 10 broken ribs. These are all of the details I have. After I hear more I will let you know.
Please include him in your prayers for a quick and full recovery.

It was a really good ride exept for Gerry getting hurt.
I guess a few went down at one point or another but nothing serious.
80 miles with 14 bikes and no mechanical problems other than my flat front tire, but a can of fix a flat got me back ok.
Thanks for putting this ride together Rooster.
Gerry,
Sorry about your accident.
I hope you get well soon.

Gerry, I was really hoping that it was just a bad bruise like you were saying. Sorry that it was a lot worse than we all thought. Best wishes for a quick recovery! How did you get your bike out of there?
Except for the accident, the ride was a blast! I've never done that ride before but will definitely do it again. Very scenic and lots of different types of riding - rocks, sand, some tough hills (and one really tough climb that Gerry found and none of us tried), and some wide open throttle areas. If anyone wants a GPS route file for this ride, send me a private message.
Thanks for putting this together RR and thanks again to Adam for the lift out there!

Gerry, wish ya a speedy recovery. Just remember its only a flesh wound.
Id like to thank every one who went on this ride, and RR for Hosting it.
I also have the Gps Route, as does corbin. The First half of the trail was rocky but the route we took wasnt too bad, Some first gear hill climbs, speed sections, woops, just about every thing. Now on the way back Dust+Sun+shade = Rock Tag. I started to count Rocks, as the bike jumps to the side, thats 1, oh thats 2 and so one. I lost count about after 5.
Heres a Few Photos..

For a second there I thought Kimhugs was talking about the honda when she was asking about the red truck. Seriously though, it was a great ride. We are all pulling for Gerry to get better and we are waiting word on how it all works out. Thanks to RR and also to Berger for leading us through the mountains to ck and back. Geez that guy in picture 4 in the blue shirt should do something about his hair.

Thanks guys. A little sore now, but will be back riding shortly. Want to thank Redman for showing up today to help Ron retrieve my bike. Sorry for slowing things for a little bit. Really thought I could make that ledge. Vandals got a hold of my bike over the night. Nothing that can't be fixed. It was great meeting you all and hope to ride with you in the near future.

Gerry, been waiting to hear how you're doing and how your bike came out. good to hear that it is not as bad as it could be. Take care, heal up, and we will see you on the trails. Thanks Redman and Ron for helping out.

Gerry, glad to hear that you're going to be okay!
<rant> I'm totally shocked and more than a little pissed to hear that someone vandalized your bike overnight. What the hell is with people? I mean, you were more than 16 miles out in the middle of nowhere. Presumably in a place where everyone enjoys the outdoors and the challenge of a good trail. And then some ass comes along and decides the trail isn't enough fun and wants to trash a bike that I assume was hidden off the trail (none of us saw it on the way back anyway). How could trashing a bike be any fun for anyone that was out there enjoying the weekend? Ugh, that just really pisses me off. We were worried about your truck being in the parking lot all night, but your bike way out there wasn't even a concern in my mind. That just sucks. Sorry man.</rant>
Hope to see you and the DRZ all healed up and on the trails again soon.

I'm very sorry Gerry. I had no idea you were hurt that bad. I was in front of the group & did not know what had happened. I take responsiblity for the mis-hap. We should have made sure you made it back to your truck. No excuse for having to leave your bike out on the trail & your truck in the parking lot over night.
Hope your feeling better soon, we own you one. The second time will be a charm, I'll buy your lunch next time!

Gerry,
I am also glad to hear you are doing alright. Your were and are in all our thoughts and prayers. I hope you have a speady recovery.
As for the ride, it was great. A good change from what I had been riding. The food at the Mill was very good. I am still finding dust in spots where dust shouldn't be. Can't wait to do it again.

Gerry,
I too feel terrible. Maybe we should have done more. Could you give a play-by-play of the rescue? Were you able to ride out at all? What happened? We all owe Ron lunch as well for helping you out.. Heal quickly, and let us know if there is anything else you need. I'm a good wrench, so if you need help with your bike, let me know...
Thanks Gerry for the original invite. This was a trip I won't soon forget...

Gerry, and all,
Hope you heal well and soon.
Thanks for the great ride (except for Gerry getting hurt).
A totally different ride than usual for me.
It's great to be able to see around the rocks, etc, once the dust clears.
The burger in CK was exactly what I needed to make it back.
I appreciate you all waiting for me along the way.
