Here is a link that explains the options. That RZR looks pretty sharp.

You mean the RZR? [:p]

Only side by side I've seen that looks like fun on four wheels. Can't wait to see it in real trail action. Looks like Polaris had their thinking caps on....will be fun to see the industry responses to this.

I want 1 too. Looks like fun. Can't wait to see how they hold up to the abuse. Hope they don't have problems (Breaking Belts)........

Don't need tons or storage. Cooler, Foldup chair, small toolbox and little gas can. :D

Umm $10,000? Seems a bit pricey IMO. I'd still rather have a Rhino or Ranger for that kind of money.

It looks like they copied the Rhino. Looking at the specs it has more horsepower than my Rhino (a 450) but the Rhino is only 900 pounds, fits in the bed of my truck with the tailgait down, and from the photos will go anywhere the RZR will go. ( I tried to post some photos to show that but the computer says they are too big)

As you can see, I love my rhino.

Actually, I believe the RZR is 100 lbs lighter than a rhino - and has more power....so that would give it a better power to weight ratio as well......

I love my rhino, too btw...:)

What I would like to see is a picture of the rear bumper with the spare tire carrier like Jeff was mentioning. Interesting to see how it will cover up that ugly backside. ;)

The webpage the link leads to says it is 945 pounds, the 450 rhino is only 900, but who cares. I am sure this will turn out to be a Chevy/Ford/Dodge argument. I do like the lower cage and the larger engine, and the lower center of gravity is a good idea, but I wonder about ground clearance. The skid plates on my rhino are one big scratch.

I would like to see one on the trail. So far my Rhino has gone everywhere Wildbill has taken his quad on the two rides I went on with him, and it hasn't broken yet. We will see how it is in the snow this Saturday on the CK ride.

It also has a smaller gas tank than the Rhino.

Rhino 450 (450cc motor) RZR 800cc Rhino 660 (660cc motor) is just over 1000lbs motor makes a big differance power and weight.

Just because you got me curious, I checked the specs right off of Yamaha's site - the Rhino 450 is 1038 lb. dry weight.....which definately puts the RZR in a lighter bracket.

I stand corrected. Dang lying salesman. No wonder I get such lousy fuel mileage when I load it in the truck! :)

Yeah, those salesman - you gotta watch them!! LOL!!! I was just curious to see if the 450 engine was really that much lighter than the 660 - my rhino now weighs about 1300 lbs, probably !LOL!!!!

The specs also state that the RZR has more ground clearance and more travel than the Rhino.

cvgriffis

I checked on the ground clearance and travel. The Rhino is 12.1" and the RXR is 10. The RZR does have better travel, with 9" front and 9.5 rear, as opposed to the Rhino at 7.3". The Rhino has a shorter wheelbase. All of the Rhino info came from Yamaha's website, and the RZR info from the article in the first post.

Like I said, Chevy/Ford/Dodge.

Ok, now I'm bummed. Really thought Polaris did their homework and got things in order for this new play toy BUT...just read another ride review and the RZR has NO, I repeat NO engine braking. What? Anyone else see this as a major screw up?

Somebody forgot thier thinking cap the morning they put this together I reckon.

Roy- They call it the Polaris 2 step. One foot on the gas one on the brake....

I just checked the Polaris web site. Does the regular Ranger have engine braking? I can't find it.

This new machine is made for speed. I don't think it wants to slow down but engine braking would be nice. :D

Brakes? People actually use the other pedal?

It was just one thing that every Polaris owner I know has recoginized and would like to see changed. Maybe dosen't matter if you stay on the flat and only go fast but on steep downhills like you might actually run into in the off road world it makes a huge difference...just amazed they wouldn't take care of it...not like it's rocket science or hasn't been done before.

I understand the use of an engine brake lol. I was just kidding around.quote:Originally posted by RoyD

I wouldn't want engine braking especially if you are duning. I don't use my Ranger like my Sportsman. We use it mostly in the sand and streets in Mex. Never missed it when out in the rock hills either. The brakes work very good and don't seem to slide it sideways going downhill like my quad.

Roy,
It doesn't come stock with engine braking, but engine breaking will be available as an option. The Polaris project managers told us this at the press intro out at 11.5. They are still working on it though and did not have a final price for the option. This is a good thing! Many people who desire more sport performance won't want EB.

A few more things-

The four wheel disc brakes work better than any ATV braking system I've ever experienced. There is an oversized disc at every corner. They also mounted the brake calipers on the backside of the rotor rather than the front. This helps eliminate hopping under heavy braking.

Compared to the 660 Rhino, power to weight ratio is said to be 44% higher on the RZR. I don't know that it feels like 44%, but there is a definite difference.

Fuel Range- It varies greatly. If you are heavy on the pedal, you can expect about 110 miles out of a tank. Polaris claims they cleared 200 miles on a tank though while driving moderately on hardpack.

Theres never going to be 1 perfect machine for all. Thats why these custome shops are arround. So you can pay more for your acessories then your machine:D
The only thing I don't think is very good is how low you sit in the RZR. Great for center of gavity. I've been in water up passed the floor board of my Prowler and the bottom of only my feet got wet. In the RZR I think your back side going to get a little wet. That make for a long day.
I like the vid though on how its set up for hunters as well?? I think not. Yeh you can take 2 guy's 2 guns and a cooler. But if you both let say take down a LITTLE mule deer. Hows going to have to walk back to camp.
This I feel is going to make a great day trip runner and duner, Sports and play machine. You know 2 peaple small amount of gear and a CRAO load of power and speed. If I coulsd afford it I'd have both. Just my thoughts. Way to go Polaris:)

I think this is the market they are after. I believe they will sell like hot cakes. :D

The MSRP on the RZR is less than the MSRP on an XP Ranger. I am anxious to see how they do. At ICP we are expecting to get 2 or 3 and they already have deposites on them, so I'm outa luck till next year on that. EBS for the 800 sportsman is about $150 bucks. I can't imagine that it would be much more than that for the RZR. The engine and trans are basically bolted together then iso mounted to the frame. this should eliminate any belt problems. the Rear IRS is rolled to improve how much shock it will take. the question will be how many aftermarket folks really understand suspension enough to build long travel kits that work correctly. I think Polaris did a good job on these toys and I hope they do well in changing their pressence in the Rhino dominated market
