View Full Version : Tour De Arizona 2!!! Plan & Roll Call
Fellow Trail Warriors,
My father will be in from out of town between Christmas and New Years and we intend to kick up some dust on the trails just as we did last Holiday Season. If you want to know what last years Tour De AZ was all about look at “Tour De Arizona 2!!!!!! Where to this year?”, HardHeadedWoman posted some beautiful pics/links to pics on page three of the topic from last years adventure.
After surveying our options we have come up with the below itinerary of DAY TRIPS. We will meet at each location at 9AM and ride all day.

Quadman20, KimHuggs1, Ready2Ride, Gdavis,
See ya at the Florence Junction Texaco at 9AM. We will drive into the staging area from there. Basically just stay on the 60 and you will hit the Texaco just after the "Y" in the road in Florence Junction. The Texaco is on the left.
Tad,
This is the same area we rode with all the snow we had last year. Looking at the extended forecast for Phoenix it is sunny next week with no precipitation. I will start the "snow dance" on Christmas Eve and hope for the best.

The "Y" in the road at Florence Junction no longer exists. It is now a freeway type exit. It is no longer just a left turn into the Texaco. You have to take the exit, turn left, go about a quarter mile, then right for about another quarter mile to get to the Texaco.

Gdavis,
So is their a better place to stage right off the 60 prior to the Queen Valley turn off???
TABS (Sean),
We will definitely find you on Saturday. Have the quads gased up and ready to boogie. We will be there 9AM sharp. My dad said he would bring the hot dogs this year for our lunch prior to going up the mountain. He said the dog he had last year tasted like a New York Strip he was so hungry.
Cuttin2Ride,
Good luck with the after Christmas shopping. Don't spend all your money in one place.
Alaskarider,
We will see you Friday. I have asked Gdavis to provide us with a better meeting point due to the road changes in that area.

I just changed the oil on the Honda. It is ready to Rock n'Roll (Remember Box Canyon)...Just Kidding.

Gdavis/Azotto,
Thanks for the tip on the TEXACO...EXIT 212 OFF THE 60
Kimhuggs,
I have my snow moccasin's on as we speak doing a lil jig...See ya at the Texaco at 9AM. Regarding room at the staging area for a rig you should be OK. We generaly pull off into a riverbed and park. I have seen trucks with large 5th wheels in there with little effort. You will be fine.
Dad,
I will get that backpack reinforced and ready for your geology specimens.
HHW,
I sure hope that you kicked Dave in the rump and sent him to get the quads. My dad has commented more than once that "it just won't be the same" without you two. I will keep my toes crossed.
Mhoffman,
Thanks for the trail update. Hopefully we will get some slick stuff to keep it interesting.

Sorry everybody but I'm not going to make it for Fridays ride. We took my sons quad out today and I thought the dang thing was gonna rattle it's self apart. Got a few nuts, bolts and chains to tighten up, an oil change to do, plastic to zip tie together, tires to change and then I oughta be good to for Saturdays ride.
I'll see out all on Saturday for sure! Have fun Friday I'll be thinking about you while I'm wrench'n.

I misjudged how long it would take for me to get to 4 Peaks and was late. I got there about 9:30 so I just went ahead and messed around abit on my own. Nice area and some fun trails. I didn't stay too long but it was fun, even by myself. Sorry i missed everyone.
Today was a success. We all made it up and down the mountain in one piece. I will post the pics in the pics section soon. Teaser Photo's Below.

All,
Nick is correct on the family bonding part. We have been from Phoenix to Prescott and back again looking for Nick's MOM. We couldn't figure out what street she lived on. During our adventure we ran acrossed a HUGE GILA MONSTER that I managed to break to ride. Who know's, I may bring the old girl out on the 1st for you all to see. Regarding the 1st I know of a Loop off of I-10 and Miller Road that is approx. 50 Miles of Intermediate Desert Riding. Fool/Speeedr mentioned some stuff out towards the White Tanks as well. I will post the exact directions after talking to them. WE WILL MEET AT 9AM IN THE WEST VALLEY NEAR THE WHITE TANKS ON THURSDAY THE 1ST OF JANUARY...MORE TO COME.

Skidmark here, posting on Stacy's format: Have you all about had it with this "Happy Holiday Season"? (bored out of your head, disgusted with the relatives, and tired of watching the TV), if so set your riding sites on New Years Day. We are gonna ride!!! My tired old body is gonna give it one more go-round before heading home.:D Stacy will post staging area & time soon. This ride won't have the whoops, daredevil corners, or dizzying heights of the last two rides but it will be fun.;) Should be about 50 miles.

Today we started with 13 and finished with 8. The Whuggs family had a chain pop off one of the dirt bikes and they turned back. NativeAZ met us at the staging area, but couldn't do the loop due to time constraints. The 8 who completed the ride were Stacy, SkidMark, Fool, Speeedr, RichD, DrtiGrl, DirtySanchez and Zamies.

:):):):):):):):):)Great ride today, I met some new riders and reunited with the rest. We will have to do this trail again and maybe explore some more of the mines in the area. It sure warmed up toward the end. -- I think that small plane that flew over was lower than that hawk we saw later on the trail. This seems to be an active area but knowone seemed to venture that far from the parking lot.[?] -- husky: wish you could have hooked up with us, maybe next time.
