While there are several "staging areas" that will get you into the ISD, I suspect that you will have your best luck by simply using the common staging area near vendor flats. It seems as though there is a fair mix of dirt, rocks and sand, and your truck with a trailer should be fine. If you are looking to camp, I suggest you parallel parking along Gecko Rd. The shoulder of the road is considerably raised and therefore the depth of the sand is kept to a minimum. My second suggestion would be to use one of the pads (we like pad #2) but really check the depth of the sand before you pull in because the stuff can get very deep, very quick. That said, avoid getting more than a few feet away from a paved surface if at all possible....and bring a tow strap with you to be safe.

Or, you can drop the pressure in the tires to 8-10 lbs. and go anywhere you want. (Works for me)
I once got a two wheel drive half way up competition hill by doing that and a little run at it.
Finally got stuck right next to a buried jeep and a stuck 3 wheeler.
(shoulda seen their faces when a two wheel drive toyota pickup with street tires got as far as they did)
I still have the pic somewhere on a backup disk.

It's not uncommon for a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get stuck......after all that's part of the fun!!!![^]

Yeah thats what he is saying. Never tried that but when I went to glamis with my 2x4 toyota I got stuck twice. The good news is there are lots of people with 4x4's to pull you out. If you camp down wash Rd I recommend you stay towards the first few washes and do go too far back.
