Question, being new the area, I’m pretty much stumped as to where to hunt for coyote in western Arizona. Took the quad out two weeks ago to do some scouting, but were not very successful. Any idea as to where and when they venture out of their den?

You should be able to call them in at any time of the year.

You should be able to find the info you need here:
www.predatormasters.com

Coyotes are plentiful in AZ. Used to attempt to hunt them myself a few years ago.

Only if you REALLY ate them. ;)

Your best bet is going to be very early in the morning, or late in the evening -- especially this time of year. Rediculious in my opinion that Arizona doesn't allow predator hunting after dark, but that's a different topic.

Being in Surprise, you really don't have to travel too far to find 'yotes. Hell, not uncommon to see them running the streets of Avondale. West side of the White tanks and along the river bed are descent spots. Maybe a bit call shy, so you'll need to bring your A-game though. Further west you go, less call pressure they have. That's actually probably true in all directions though...further out of town you get, the better.

Personally, I like to find a good cow tank with some sign and call near that.

You can come out to my back yard in Queen Creek at shoot a few. I hear them all the time. They used to dig under my fence to get to the neighbors chickens and whatever else she has over there. My 2 year old Rottie has pretty much cured them from digging into our yard any more. They still roam around right behind the fence though.

Try the Biltmore. If you are working on a fur coat, there are some poodles and s**tzues roaming around also.

I saw 1 at 40th st and Broadway just walking down the side walk. If you park in the circle k parking lot you can get a good shot

Be carefull that you are not in Surprise or Buckeye out there by the park. I used to hunt out there myself but there are just too many houses out there now. Another good place is west of Wickenburg on US 60. This time of year they are hard to call in the desert, just too dang hot. Watch for rattlers.

The summer is really a bad time of year to call them. If you do call, try a pup distress. I always look for places where farm fields touch desert.

Up by prescott and prescott valley can be pretty promising. More of an open grassland as compared to our cat-claw desert down here! out eastern way towards eagar/big lake is also a great place..
