View Full Version : Desert Wells
Has anyone been to Desert Wells riding ? I'm thinking of going there this Saturday ( Jan 10, 04 ). I have a map of the area I got from the SLM but it just shows routes and no other info.

Where is Desert Wells? I have not heard of it...
I have heard of Hot Wells Dune down near Safford...but not Desert Wells

It's off of 60 around Florence Junction. The map I have shows it on the West side of 60.

Hey Norm,
Oh...okay...got it!
MM107 or whatever mile marker that is down there...I have ridden there and the area is for the most part....FLAT
Been there once...and doubt I will ever be back. Good place for beginners in my opinion. Although...there are few mountains (piles) of dirt that some of the local 20-somethings and teens use to jump on....if you're into that thing.
This is just my opinion...but check it out and let us know what you find--Good luck!

mmmmm. Thanks for the good info. I'll probably stop there and if it's boring I'll go on to Montana Mtn. or something else in the area.

It is mile Marker 207 - It is not difficult but can be very interesting trail - flat - riding if you follow the trails out and explore them. There is some sand - I HATE SAND. However, my son also thinks it is boring, but it is very nice when you have several riders with mixed skills. Do be careful, though, it is a multi use area, my husband was there this past Sunday and he said there were a lot of hunters, although he couldnt figure what they would be hunting.

Great, thanks for the info vpihlman. I'll be sure to check who's out there and what they are doing prior to riding. I don't want to be riding in a live fire range.

Also watch out for the washes some will drop instantly. It is extremely flat lots of trails good family place. I ride out there all the time(Close to home) Most people do not leave the area of trail 11. To get to some trails you will have to get off your bike open gates and go through. I am pretty sure the area is basically fenced off into three areas. All are State trust land and open to riding but you do need to go through the gates(some areas also have cattle gaurd crossings). In some of the areas away from the main area I have ridden for up to an hour with out ever seeing another person. But I also did not see a hill.
