When I was out at Hot Wells about 3 weeks ago we went to Safford to the BLM and asked about permits to ride on the trails. They didn't even know what I was talking about. All they could or would tell me was that HOT WELLS was open and needed no permits which I already knew. I read on this foram somewhere that they got all of the permits both state and BLM at the Safford ofice. Now which people are full of crap.

I've never heard of a BLM permit to ride. Well...maybe a use permit for large events/groups.

The BLM does not require a permit to ride the primitive roads and trails. A $3.00 per day fee is collected at Hot Well Dunes, this to help pay for the hot well and campground improvements.

Maybe that is where I got confused, the large gatherings require permits.

How would you get permits for a race? Like say if you wanted to set up a race for whiplash.

You would need to contact your district BLM office and hope they have a recreational manager that likes OHV use. Here at the Safford office they are helping produce an OHV brochure to promote OHV use. Good Luck it costs nothing but time to try and permit a race.
