Got drawn out for Whitetail in 24B this year, Nov 9th hunt. Have done a lot of scouting in the unit with not a whole lot of luck. (FR650 up high, east end of wilderness - Kennedy & Horrell Ranches)Does anyone know of any other locations to try?

thx

I will be down in 36b starting the 26th. Never hunted 24b, but good luck. I can tell you start high and use your binos.

Don't know anything about 24. You can check out the G&F website and look up info on the Unit report. Might find some useful information there. :)

Whiteeye,
We have hunted on the Northeast side of the mountains at Apache lake.
We drove around the backside towards Rosevelt on 188.
There are forest rds that go up against the mountains and we have seen a few around this area.
Good luck

I've hunted this area with a good friend a couple of times and it definitely is a challenge. The only time we were successful, he got a spike on the top of the switchbacks above the stone house. The last time we hunted there, all of the waterholes were dry and deer were hard to find. We did see a whole bunch of coatis though, interesting animal.

Theres alot of whitetail south of the adot yard before you get to apache lake coming from canyon lake. Its a hard hike to get up there but I always see bucks up there. I have seen them at the road sometimes but mostly up above that little house at the adot yard. There also on the north side of the road too.

Hey Whiteye, best luck is to get in a position early near the thick brush as they tend to go for cover there during the day. Of course take in consideration waterhole proximity and the basics. Good luck, those tiny whites that we have are a small target. Aim small, miss small!

Well, did you get one?

Yes we got one, but we had two tags.:(

My little brother got a nice two pointer. All I saw were doe. I didn't even get to put one in the chamber. While I was watching the 'girls' drink at the water hole, my brother and couple other hunters were busy jumping a ‘bachelor heard’ of 5 bucks in the next canyon over. (They got 3 of the 5.) I guess it's all about being in the right place at the right time.........

Coues Whitetail truly live up to their nickname of the 'little <s>white</s> grey ghosts'. I've never spent so many hrs. glassing in my life. It was almost impossible to see them. It was a very very challenging hunt. But, I'd do it again in a 'heart beat'.

PS. ATV’s are worth their weight in gold when it comes to hunting. Ours got us into some very very rough country. Without the ATV’s, we would probably still be dragging his deer out.

Good for you! I love hunting the little buggers, but I do it down south. Son got one, I didn't, but I am happier that he got his than if I had gotten one.

I like Mule deer better, of course I'm a carnivore and those tiny white tails just don't fill the freezer![:p]

Ya, but they are sure a lot more tender.......

Actually, I think we are going to swith back to mullies next year. I love the challenge of the 'little greay ghosts' but I'm ready for a break.

We've done the Coues the last few years and considering we don't hunt the units down by the Mexico border, were they are much more plentifull and larger, we've been pretty successfull.

Great. I don't like hunting near the border. Too many things (illegals) screwing up the hunt!:(

There are some big whitetails in 21 and 22, but it is hard to get a tag. The biggest Coues I have evers seen was while I was bear hunting near the Doll Baby ranch west of Payson in 22. We have seen a lot of illegals in 36b, but they haven't caused a problem yet.

I took a small Coues deer in that area back in the '80's. [:p]
