Well, it was a quick hunt, but my buddy and I got ours on opening day. They are small 2 points, but hey, what more can you expect from a Coues???

Darren, congratulations on your success. I was not as fortunate in Unit 32 this past October.

Nice one Darren. A two pointer is just fine for one of those. Greg got one about that same size as well. I was on the wrong side of the ridge. By the time I got to where he was at the other bucks were long gone. We hunted up by "Top of the World" in 24B between Superior and Globe.

Fotunately I grew up in the area, and was able to talk to a bunch of people. We went to Deer Creek, in the Klondyke/Aravipa area. There was a BIG coes deer with this one I shot, but he just didnt want to be shot;). He kept himself behind a big thicket. I waited for him to come out to the clear, but he started to top over instead, so I figured I would get his buddy before he followed. All in all, a good day! Thanks Ryan and Griz.

I got one out there a couple of years ago as well. Most people have no idea that there are Coues out in the Klondike area.
Sweet deer! Congratulations!

Just getting a Coues makes it a good deer. The bigger one has a heavy rack for a two point.
Congrats.. i just sold my mounted 20 point one my buddy got

Thats what I was thinking as well. His rack was bigger then mine:( But mine actually weighed about 15 lbs more:D Just goes to show you its not how big the rack is.... ;)
Or the weight diffrence could have been the 2 big holes from that 30.06 slug he was shooting at it. He hit it once in the rear and once in the front shoulders...no meat left! LOL
Nice bucks, congratulations!

I was shooting 130gr. 270, so I was ok. He didnt have another rifle to shoot. He could have used his dad's 270, but he didnt feel as comfortable with it. So he was thowing some lead out there.:D
You gonna bring me some venison jerky? Good stuff.
Why didn't you shoot that bird for giving you guys the "stink eye" ;)

I shot one a few years ago that grossed 118 (only netted 85 after deductions). My mastiff was bigger. But venison is tastier than mastiff and MCSO doesn't investigate you if you get it stuffed and hang it on the wall.

I've hunted coues for several years now, and have never gotten a shot off. My hat is off to you guys, you've got my respect.
Were ya'll on the backside of the Catalina Mountains?

Nope we were over next to Aravipa Canyon, called Deer Creek. Its off Klondyke RD on the Safford side.

I think I hunted that in Dec, 2000. It was unit 31, and the Mountain range was called the Pinalenos and included Mt. Graham. We didn't see pavement or above-freezing temps the entire time we were there. I recall that it was incredibly rugged terrain. We glassed a lot of coues but could never even get remotely in range.
What optics are you using?

Yep, thats the area. I think we saw above temps for a few hours a day, then it dipped back below again. When we woke up Saturday morning, there was frost on the INSIDE of the windows of the camp trailer we were in. (no heater) We hunted low, and it worked well for us, but still very rugged. As far as optics go, I used my good ole trusty bushnell 10x50 (about 20 years old) and a leopold vari-X4 scope.(it does wonders) Thanks to my scope, I downed him at 400 yards.
