I have a serious problem with our game and fish department. They sure are quick to dispense big game tags for "billions" but us little local guys like me can't get drawn for 12 years! There are minimal opportunities for anything other than rabbits and coyotes. There really are lacking hunting for families. Too bad that our wildlife has become so commercialized that it's almost impossible for local folks to enjoy. [V]

The public draw for deer started in 1973. I have only not drawn a deer tag once since then. Let's see, thats 33 deer tags in 34 years. Two of those years I actually got 2 deer tags when that was possible so I actually have had 35 tags.
I draw an archery elk tag every two to three years and an archery antelope tag about every 5 years.
You can draw a tag. You just need to play the odds. No, you are not going to get a rifle elk or antelope tag very ofter but it can be done.
Now next year there are lots of elk tags on the books. Heck, you can go buy one over the counter right now. [:0]

Now we only need someone with enough clout, to rally those 418,000 hunters to cast votes!
Brudahpete, you crack me up! Try putting in for other that the top 4 units in the state. Look at the percentages posted in the regs. I would love to hunt every year in 6A,5bs,8,7,ect, but that is not reality. I put in for Elk in 6A for 20 years, was drawn in 1996 bull, and 2006 cow. I am not complaining, because I know the risk. I have many friends that go every, or every other year. Those friends put in for obscure units, and get drawn. They are very succesful, and spend gobs of time scouting for thier animals. I do not have the time, so I go with what I know.
Ps: I have been putting in for AZ hunts since 1980! I have not got drawn for something, maybe 3 times. I am still skunked for sheep, antelope, and buffalo. I hope to get drawn for those before I die.
BTW: Merry Christmas

I archery hunt most every year. I'm quite successful with the mulies but I do wish that our state would develop better fowl hunting for kids. My boys love to hunt dove but it's hard to get a tag for turkey and when you do, there's very few birds. I'm not saying that there ought to be billions of turkeys for the picking but it would be nice if some attention to other game species would be given than just the money maker Elk and Deer hunts. I am holding out for a sheep draw myself. Gotta get one!

Arizona never has had a great population of turkeys and probably never will.
