This is how you meet new riding friends. If you only plan on day tripping, great. It's only an hour outside of Phoenix. All are welcome.

I'm considering joining you on this ride, as it sounds like an excellent opprotunity to meet some new riding buddies. However, I'm not familiar with the terrain. What kind of riding can I expect? For example, is it jeep trail, wide open flats, a big wash, etc? Is this a large enough area where one can get away from the chaos if they want? Thanks for the info!!!

All of the above, freakneh. I love to ride out there at 11.5. There is lots of singletrack for people like myself, and many others. And if you ride a quad there is lots of riding for you too! there are many hills, and if your a more calm rider you can ride the washes and mild trails. You should check it out.

It has all of that as well as some single track that is off limits to the quad folks. The trails are marked pretty good and most of what I encountered was easy to moderate. You can ride several different loops of 25 to 30 miles. It is really a lot of fun out there.

You will need a State Trust Land Recreation permit. Pay a visit to the State Land office and give them $20 for a family permit. The BLM also has a good map of the Lake Pleasant/Hieroglyphic area.

Is this an area that gets pretty crowded?

We don't have an RV yet, so I don't think we'll be spending any nights. What time does everyone usually get organized and start heading out on rides?

Is everyone heading up Friday night, or are some of you going for the day Friday as well? If so , I wouldn't mind coming up for a fast ride Friday (2 wheels or 4, doesn't matter but prefer a relitively fast pace), and then bringing the family up Saturday for a group ride.

Thanks for the info,
Steve

Steve,

To answer your questions. It's never been too crowded. Plenty of space out there. We are pulling in Friday late midday/early afternoon. By the time we get setup, it may be too late for an afternoon ride. The rides are usually pretty informal, nothing organized. We just saddle up and ride. Come on out and hit some trails!

I have a BLM Map for Phoenix North dated 1995 (1-100K scale). This map covers this area, but the scale is so huge that you can't really tell much about trails. Is there a more detailed map I could ask the BLM for?
Also - would love to come out and meet the RA folks. We moved here about 18 months ago, and have been riding for about a year. I've got lots of great info from the site, and would like to meet some of the people. See if I can talk the wife and another riding freind into it.

There is a very detailed trail map of the area available at the PLIC in downtown Phoenix. It is called the Lake Pleasant/Heiroglyphics Access Guide. I think it is about 7 bucks. I've got one and it shows all of the rideable trails including washes and 'motorcycle only' singletrack trails.

Anyway, welcome to RA and welcome to AZ. Come on out and join in on the fun! Make sure that you have your State Trust Land permit. It is also available at the PLIC in downtown Phoenix. (Public Land Information Center)

I am probably gonna get some prizes from our sponsors and Shannon & I will hide them out the trail (with GPS coordinates). Sound fun? Kinda like a little geo-caching without the 'cache,' just the prize. An RA scavenger hunt if you will. Is this cool? Who might be interested in this?

Don't worry about me, I'm just bustin your chops;)

I'd probably get one but there are 2 problems I see with them (none of which have to do with conspiracy theories[:o)]) The first being they come with directions, I don't seem to do well with those (just ask my wife:(). The second, that's something else to break and I crash way too frequently to have to worry about that[xx(]

Yes, time once again or another RA Camp-N-Ride Trivia Question. There is some different criteria for this question. Here's the deal...

We've got YOUR CHOICE of some Moose riding apparel if you can answer this trivia question.

Select one of the following:
Hat & Key Chain (Hat's come in 2 different styles)
T-Shirt (XL)
Jersey (XL)

Here is the qualifiying criteria:
1) You must have made 50 posts or less
2) You must be coming on this weekend's RA Camp & Ride

Now time for the question. Clue: The answer is listed on the 2nd paragraph of the original Camp-N-Ride post. This is something that is somewhat heavy, goes very quickly and will be put to great use on this weekend's Camp-N-Ride...WHAT IS IT?

Hi, We are new to riding and would like to meet new people and explore new places. We would like to join everybody for a ride on Sunday. I'm not to familiar with the Lake Plesant area, so could someone give directions and what group or cars to look for?

Myself and two sons, ages 14 and 16 have dirt bikes. We are looking for mild to moderate terrain, and what I have read, this place sounds great!

I would appreciate any info, especially directions!!

Thanks and looking forward to meeting you all.

Looks like we're out for Sunday. :( Somehow with all the work around the enduro, Don and I got our wires crossed and he made plans for us to do some scouting for a dual sport ride. Well, at least I still get to ride and the upside is I'll actually get to ride some new areas that I haven't seen before.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend...Trish

Had a great time Friday and Saturday.
Arlin took myself and Matt on a 100 mile run to Crown King. He mapped it all out on the GPS so it was a true adventure. On the way Bill from Ohio caught up with us. (Who started out 30 min behind us)
We came across a mine called the Button Mine which was interesting.
I didn't get any pictures because my camera is officially trashed by the ride. the trail tied us in the upper part of the Crown King trail and we headed into town for some grub. we took the normal Crown King trail back and hurdled our way back to camp.
I had to get back that night and when Speeedr saw me coming he lowered the rack and I drove right up back. I knew i couldn't stop till I got home because I felt the soreness coming in.
It was great... Thanks Arlin

Also, HAL is a great singer, and he knows tons of songs.:)

I think you have to be at least a B rider just to get anywhere out there without getting hurt.
Does that sound about right to you all?

WOW!! Been so busy I haven't checked in this forum for a while. Got out to MM11 to ride the upcoming Whiplash race course with some racing buds, and BAM all you guys were out there camping. Good to see you guys again, well the ones that weren't out riding when I rode over to say hi. Ran into some of the four wheel gang out riding (literally ran into a couple, all good), didn't have time to sit and chat. Sorry for the roost, we get a little carried away sometimes. That's what happens when you get 15-20 adrenaline crazed desert racers together at one time. Sure would've liked to stick around and do some single tracking with you guys but Ben (Dezrcr)got tangled with a quad and broke his clutch so we had to bail early, we rode up together. Maybe next time.

Man there were a lot of people out there!!! Looked like a holiday weekend, OH yah it was.
