All,

I want to let you know about a meeting you will all be interested in. The
portion of the Black Canyon Trail between the AZCO mine and Black Cyn City
is being studied by IMBA under contract by BLM for a possible non-motorized
trail that parallels the current alignment (jeep road). This would
effectively separate motorized/non-motorized use in this area. Please send
a representative from your organizations to participate in the formulation
of the "vision" for the uses in the area. This means that if you
participate, you are more likely to keep access between the Table Mesa area
and Black Canyon City. If any of you think someone else should attend,
please invite them. It would be valuable to have people familiar with this
area at the meeting.

Purpose: Share the background and history of the project and gather
information on existing and traditional uses of trails in the Black Canyon
corridor so the BLM and interested publics can begin to develop a Vision
for what the Black Canyon Trail (or trail system) could be in the future.

Process: Facilitated discussion and a route and facility mapping exercise
with input from the meeting participants. (Additional input will gather
throughout the project planning process)

Follow Up: In three weeks or less, BLM will conduct a second meeting to
report out on the work that our IMBA contractor has completed and how we
have incorporated the input the community provides on the 5th. Joey Klein
will present a Vision for the Black Canyon Trial and provide examples of
similar projects in the US at the follow up meeting. After that public
meeting BLM will begin working on a revised project plan, a list of
potential citizen projects for the BCT and begin developing of a "friends"
group or user network of volunteers to support and help with the
development of the Trail. If all goes well we would like to do several
trail projects before the end of the year and have a significant National
Public Lands Day Project schedule for the Fall of 04.

Meeting time and location:

I think I can go to this. I have never been to such a meeting. So close, I must check it out.
