View Full Version : Saw'd off shotgun?
If a derringer is legal with a short "so many inches" barrel, then why is it illegal to have a larger shotgun and shorten the barrel to less than 18 inches? Does it have to do with the thickness of the barrel?

I think it is the caliber of the bullet maybe, I'm not for sure.

A derringer is a pistol...a shotgun is a shotgun ;)
You can however have a short barreled shotgun (less than 18 inch barrel) if your pay the tax for a registered "short barreled shotgun". Same goes for a short barreled rifle (less than 16 inch barrel).

you can get a short barrel tax stamp on a shotgun... its only $5, but takes 9 months to get to be legal... I think its a class III firearm so you got to pass all the tests to get it.

AOW tax is $5 a SBS or SBR tax is $200...but the transfer process is ridiclous either way.

There's a .410 revolver/derringer on the market. What a great home defense weapon!

I seen one of those at 2nd Amendment Sporting Goods in Tucson, that would be a good Trail/Snake gun.

If your going to get a .410 derringer for home protection why not get the .410/.45 Long Colt? That way you can load the .410 shell then a .45 Long Colt and so on.....

I like the looks of that Taurus, but. Where are you going to get a holster to fit that thing?

A short barrel shotgun is a class III firearm. If I'm getting a class III weapon it's going to be a select fire ;)
