I will be there for sure.
I noticed on the entry form that there is a sound limit for the bike's exhaust system. How the heck do I check that out before race time? As some of your club members pointed out last weekend, my bike would never pass that sound limit. I need to do some work on the silencer, but I donn't know how to test it out.
Is there somewhere I could take it to get it tested?

Just in case anyone is wondering what a Qualifier enduro is here some info that should help. Its a great format as no special timekeeping equipment is required by the rider and you just go like crazy in teh special tests.
In a Qualifier there a "transfer sections" and "special tests". The combination of these make up a the 25 mile loop. You will be told how much time you have to complete the loop based on what division you enter. C riders will have the most time and it will go down from there.
The transfer sections you can ride at any speed you want and are not timed. They are designed to give you a break after running the special test. *However keep in mind you must complete the loop in the time specified or the extra time will count against you.
On the special tests you will be timed from when you leave the "checkin" to when you arrive at the "checkout". The elapse time is your "score" for that special test.
When you approach a checkin or checkout a sign will alert you. When you reach a checkin you can stop and wipe your goggles, check tire pressure, adjust suspension or whatever you want to do, or you can get right in line to start the test. Each rider will be started a minimum of 15 seconds apart. The "clocker" will tell you the time you will start and another checkpoint worker will write that time on your scorecard. The "clocker" will then give you a five second count down to your time and give you the start signal when the clock shows your time. (*Note - If you leave early you will be disqualified) At the start signal you ride as fast as you can to the checkout.
When you reach the "checkout" stop where the STOP HERE sign is. A "clocker" will have noted the time you passed the designated end of the special test. Another worker will then right this on your scorecard. You just ran a special test. :D Now just keep following the arrows through the transfer section and repeat checkin/checkout procedure until the loop is complete.
When you are done, simply take your scorecard to the scoring desk and the times will be entered into our superduper computer for number crunching. Your score will be in seconds and will comprise your total special test elapsed times plus any late seconds for the loop.
There will be a break between loops for A and B riders and you will be told at the start of the day your restart time for the second loop. All times will be clock time so if your wearing a watch you are all set.
See its easy and no time keeping equipment is required.
Lets Race!!! :D:D:D
Let me know if there are any other questions.

Dave, Good question. The only way to really test is to get a sound meter. Do what you can, fresh packing, downtip on the end, stuff like that to quiet it down. We can be flexible.

Ok, so I cornered GMoney at the poker run and he said his entry form is in the mail. Anyone else? Somebody has to keep him honest.
I know NewRiver is dying to race the event but he might have to work it unless someone gets him off the hook.

I'm in, Sound shouldn't be a problem for me, if those loud a$$ thumpers can get in I should be able to. Oh BTW, what is the db limit and what distance is it measured at for the enduro? Just in case ;)

C'mon everyone...if we can get some more volunteers, neWRiver won't have to work and that means he can race the event instead!! :D As an ATR member, neWRiver was kind enough to step up and work the event but we all know he would rather be racing. Just think of all the great stories he'll have to tell. ;) Volunteer to work a checkpoint and you can be there to cheer Kevin and the rest of our friends on. This is what it's all about. Those of you who have no plans to race, please help out so that our friends within ATR who would like to participate (ATR members can't sign up to race until all work positions have been filled) have the opportunity to do so (pretty please). [:X] (By the way, I did apply chapstick on those lips before I puckered up [:0]).
You don't have to have any experience...trust me. Heck, they let me help out before I even had a bike! It's a lot of fun and the racers really appreciate all the local support. This event is going to have a better spectator area than past enduros so it will be easy to watch the racers in action. If you know anything about most desert races, that doesn't happen very often. I can see a wild RA group cheering on their favorite racers as they burn through those special tests!!! :D
OK, so who's going to volunteer as part of Team neWRiver?

Appreciate the moral support, BigDog, but I really don't mind working the race. It sounds like fun. I think I have one 4 person checkpoint team lined up. Me, Becky, Chas and Chas is checking with his sister-in-law who had indicated a desire to help out. This ought to be an an exciting affair for all involved. It would be really cool to see more of our RA friends out there, too. Maybe we can make a weekend out of it like we did out at the rolls. With the poker run on Saturday and the race on Sunday it is sure to be a memorable outing. [8D]
I'm also hoping to be able to cheer on many of our RA riders in the race. I'm really hoping that our local RA riding celebrity, Garry will make his entry into the race. ;)
Seriously, if any of you singletrack riders have thought about racing, this is a good one. I got a big thrill out of riding in the EnduroCross last spring and it was good to have a bunch of my friends around. ATR is not a huge club and it will mean a lot to the club to have a good sized RA contingent of racers, workers and spectators.
Be involved! :D

So who from RA is going and what class are you entering in?
This will give the Whiplash racers a little taste of the enduro world definition of the word "technical". :D Although not to the extreme. [:p]
With cheap entry and being a class event, maybe I should ask who ISN'T running it? ;) Or, to quote phxman: "All you Bad Johnny racers need to be at this one ;) "

Come on, only one or two of you posted a reply to the question of who is going to run this thing. There's a little over a week before the qualifier. Are you all keeping it secret so as to have the upper hand on your competition? So who's running this thing? Are you men or mice? Squeak up! ;)

I will be there for sure as I noted on the second post in the thread.
I will be running 4-stroke-A class. Todd Johnson will also be there running in the 30+ A class. We got on the same minute, so I hope we don't end up taking each other out in the process. We can be a little competitive with each other. I gave him a little love tap in the PMP Gran Prix last weekend that left a nice knobby mark on his number plate and a couple broken buckles on his boot.

Becky (cuttin2ride) and I along with Chasman and his wife will be running a checkpoint for the race. We are thinking about letting Littlefox (Nick) run the race, though. This will be a good race for him to cut his teeth on.
In any case, we will be out there for the weekend enjoying the festivities. :D

Cool. I'm starting 2 rows ahead of you so if you go by, wave or something. Just not the knobby kiss like you gave Todd. Brutus don't cotton to that kinda behavior. [^]

FYI: As inticement for those of you running the Qualifier, we have secured $50 gift certificates for each of the A,B,C Division Winners. So trash the rear tire, you can buy another one:D

Hey guys and gals check out www.dirtbiketv.com for a video of this race. It's pretty good.
I've known these guys for a while and they are a good couple of dudes. They are totally non profit and do it just for fun. They try to make sure they talk about all the sponsors and supporters at all racing venues.

Pics from the qualifier are posted at the Arizona Trail Riders website at http://atr.server101.com/AL1_Pics_CCQ_.htm .
Check out the pic of David Gronlund and Todd Johnson - Yamaha should pay them for advertising. :)

Sweet pictures.
It's a bummer that the camera dude didn't wait just a split second longer because I hit a rock or ledge or something as I went over that little jump and the bike whipped completely sideways. I barely saved it. I saw the camera guy and hoped he had caught it but apparently he was a half second to fast for me. We WERE going pretty darn fast through there.
Cool pictures just the same.
