My friend bought a BMW GS dual sport 1100. He seems to really, really like it. Looks like a fun bike. Anyone here have one ?

Was checking them out yesterday while I was having BMW do some work on my 650 Dakar. The BIG GSs are very nice, but for $17K + they better be. (the Adventure model is closer to $25K)

The BIG advantages to the big GS are overall highway comfort and higher cruising speeds......and a few more bells and whistles

That's my .02

Are these bikes on good on forest roads. And whats the suspension like.

Forest roads would be a cake-walk for the big GS, for most riders with a little experience. I would suspect that years of adventure style riding would be a good thing before spending the big bucks. I'm sure the off-road ride quality is much better than my little Dakar.

The BMW bike to watch is the new 800GS, a nice balance between the 650 Dakar (now discontinued as a 1 cylinder) and the big GS.....and no boxer engine cylinders to tear off.

I checked out my friends GS out the other day. Interesting way that BMW does things...
The front swing arm suspension system is interesting. Has a huge converter just before the muffler. Its a BIG bike for a offroad - onroad bike. Not sure I would do anything more than basic forest or powerline roads with it.
Little too pricy for me also.

I saw that BMW is going to have a 450 DS/trail bike in the next year or so. It looked sweet, almost like it could take on a motorcross track. I've been trying to talk the wife into letting me get a bike (I'm getting closer) and that looks like it could be the winner.

Heck I wouldn't mind even having one of those BMW G 650. The BMW 650 comes with 53hp what does the Honda 650 come with I think I read somewhere it was like 32 hp but I could be wrong whats the deal with BMW having like twenty more hp from the same size cc can someone explain this to me.

Dude if dollars didn't matter check out the HP2 Enduro 105 hp and only weights 386.

i think the big difference is that the BMW is so much newer in design, and its a bit more $$. also more of a street than dirtbike, but would still be fun.

The KTM 640 is a more offroad friendly bike of similar size/capability.
