Myself & The Moose are travelling South of Superior Monday to Walnut Canyon. Never been there but this loop is out of the "Guide to AZ Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails".

We'll be exploring and mapping the route (if we can find it). There's suppose to be, according to the book, a trail that connects to the Coke Ovens, about 6 miles one way, that we're also going to check out. The trip would be about 35 miles including the Coke Ovens, if we make it.

Sign up if interested and I'll give meeting directions and times later this evening.

I have done this trail with Red Neck and it was a fun trail. I am looking for a ride for tomorrow and since no one could make Table Mesa I would be interested in the ride. I work until 1am so as long as we go around 10am I could make the trip. Let me know where and when to meet. I do know that the trail is sometimes confusing but I think I can remember where to go. The last time I was out there I was riding my kids 110 ATC just for fun. lol The parking on Battle AXE Road is scarce for sure if you have a trailer but a spot can be found. I just ended up pulling off the side of the narrow road and starting from there.

I highly suggest a GPS on this route. Make damn sure you can back-track the way you came. Once you get down to the river and then start back, there is a wash you travel through and this is where it can get confusing. The book was written several years ago and as you know weather changes terrain...especially in washes. It is far more difficult than Queen Valley loop described in the same book. At least from behind the steering wheel of an F-150. I've done both in my truck and Queen Valley is a walk in the park compared to Walnut Canyon. It was fun though.

If you really want to have fun without worrying about loosing your way, go to Sunflower Mine (#43 in the book). Trails are very well marked and route finding is easy and that trail is a hoot. I just did it today in my truck and I didn't remember it being that much fun. The creek is running good and there is lots of shade on and off the trail so it won't be nearly as hot as Walnut Canyon is gonna be tomorrow. I was there from 9:30 to 3:45 today and it was very comfortable.

Tom, you gotta do that one again man. One of my favorites for sure!

Ya Sunflower Mine is a real good one but I am going along for the ride. Walnut Canyon was fun for me too but it will be warm out there. I will have plenty of water and sun screen.

I have a cheat sheet printed with all the mileages to all the Y's and T's and what direction to go. I'm hoping that will help. Got the GPS and mapped the route off my topo so I got some sort of GPS reference, just don't know how close it'll be.

Kind of curious how that trail from there to the Coke Ovens is.

Anyway, I figure on being at the rest area that's on the right just as you come into Superior at 9:30. Watch for it or you'll miss it. There is a "Rest Area" sign with an arrow to tell you it's there.

Does that work for ya Tom? If ya just want to meet at Battle Axe Rd. thats fine too. 10:00 if ya want to do it that way.

BTW.....For Arizona, 87 degrees is a mild day. [8D]

Hey guys I have some bad news for me. Over the coarse of last night my tonsils have swollen up like golf balls and my throat hurts big time. I will have to drop out because of it. I was really looking forward to riding with you guys. I am sorry for any inconvenience.
