I enjoy the stuff Dan puts on as far as GP's. And this is the first annual? Nice.

Never met a CR500 I didn't like.

75% payback, what a joke. You can't even get your enrty fee back if you win with only a couple Pro's entered. What ever happened to the good old days of the %100 payback. A lot more Pro's would race then.

I did the WORCS race there last year and had a blast. It sounds like there will be a lot more MX in this one. I like Speedworld a lot, but probably will have to set this one out. Have fun boys and girls.

Sounds good to me. That extra 15 minutes is probably going to cause me to need a fuel stop. There was not much fuel left in the tank after 1 hour at Tucson.

Sounds like a fun race, thought I might give it a try. Guess not, prob won't be riding that day. Company Christmas party is the evening of the 14th. They have reserved "Americas Original Sports Bar" at the Arizona Center. We have a room at the Hyatt. I don't think I will be in any shape for riding [:p][:p]

this isnt the same speedway that is out at 195th ave and happy valley road is it???? If that is the case, then I definitely want to race. I am quite new to this arena and welcoming any opportunity I can get to race. Especially I only live 20 minutes from there (if its the same track).

Zhvonte- Yeah that's got to be the one your talking about. You actually take Hwy 60 (Phoenix-Wickenburg Hwy) northwest to Jomax. Left on Jomax about a quarter mile to the Speedworld MX Park entrance on the left. Even more details at http://www.speedworldmxpark.com

i might think about doing this race, what kind of terrain is it on? i mean are there any rocks and crap that would make it a bad idea to run 2ply mx tires?

You might want to have a good set of holsshots or razors for that race....heard they have redone the tracks since I was out there.Heard good stuff about it.Not usually very many quads show up at these races so might be worth the try for you Paul.

jeff, yeah, I just wanted to make sure its the same place.... My closest friend works there at speedworld, he conducts mostly on the paved dragstrip, either running staging lane and waterbox, or tech. I been going to that place for years and years and I never given any thought that quad races there. I am fairly new, three months, into riding a quad and would love to start doing some of these races. For the most part, I would like to think I got the hang of it. but I still would like to learn more about the in's and out's.

I also wanted to mention that I live just east of 91th ave and grand avenue (also conjoins w/ loop 101). So I should be fairly close to some of you guys..... I need to get a schedule of all the races they are gonna be having out there, I really want to start getting involved.

yea nate i've got razr's but i am planning on getting a set of holeshot mx's for track riding only, the problem with my razr's is that they are 22" tire, and it messes my gear ratios up, and if the race is gonna be a lot of motocross, i'm gonna need a lot more acceleration, not top end.

yzrider, actually, you need to practice the laps a few times before actually racing..... I have ridden it about four times now and I am still not ready. I think two or three more weeks of practice, then I might be ready for beginner.

Zhvonte,
I disagree with what you said. Racing a long race like that isn't about knowing the track totally, it's about going out riding your own race and having fun. It is very odd for a promoter of offroad races to let the riders practice the track. You're lucky to get the 4 laps you got. I've done a ton of races where I was sitting on the start line wondering what was around the other side of the first turn.

I always tell people that are racing for the first time that offroad racing is just an extra long trail ride where you don't have to stop and wait for your buddies. Just go out there ride your own pace. Fast or slow, it doesn't matter. You may or may not win, who cares. I think you will be very surprised on how well you do. Everybody is the same. Nobody knows the track totally, nobody is ever really prepared and everybody on the start line is as nervous as you are. Basically you will be racing a bunch of people that feal exactly like you do.

This race isn't a big points race or a high dollar race. It is basically a low entry fee fun race. Go out there and have some fun. When it's not fun anymore, slow down and take a breath.

yz400rider, If they will let you ride your 400 in the 250 class then the 250 beginner will be perfect for your first race. If not then race the open beginner class. Both are good starter classes

I have had a change of plans, and I'm not going to be able to make the race after all. To much to do and not enough time to do it. I hate missing the "fun" ones.

I agree with El Gato. Just go out and trail ride it at your own pace. When it comes to racing, I'm still a beginner since I never really race. I trail ride the race until someone I know comes up on me, then we bang bars for a few minutes till I can't stay with it. Generally I do it just to share bench racing stories with after. I'm sure you'll have a load of fun!

Hey All!

I will simply say I had a blast today. I was so darn nervous from the start of the morning up until the drop of the gate. Then that pile-up at the start was a little nerve racking but I managed to get around that and go on. When I finished I had no idea where I was in standings and was shocked to have gotten 1st.

Here are the class standings as they were posted:

1. Joseph Cisneros
2. Amber Naughton
3. Chris Attel
4. Phil Wussow
5. Rob Evans
6. Dan Lesovsky
7. Kathie Sheer

Congrats to all them for racing and finishing the race. Towards the end all the ruts and squared edges made it feel like I was on a nasty ol' washboard.

Hats off as well to the folks at Speedworld for putting on this great event. I look forward to the next one for sure.

For those that couldn't make it today, you missed a great time and highly recommend you make it to the next one.

Guess piloting an XR400 on the MX tracks isn't so bad afterall [}:)]

I am not 100% for sure.

But I think Bill Ramsey and his teams took 1st & 2nd, with Tim Roth and David Moskat respectivly.

Watching the team race was really cool. Think I am gonna do that next time around as well.

Congrats on your win AZJose!

I got out there a little after 10am and met up with Slyder. Lynn Prosser was there and started badgering me right away to run pro. I swear that girl races every weekend. It was only her and one other atv entered in the pro class. I then ran into Chad Munro and Jeff Hancock. Chad races expert with Whiplash and Jeff just bumped up to Pro with Whiplash. Both of these guys signed up in the beginner class!! SAND BAGGERS! No way was I gonna race in beginner so right away I started harassing them. Neither one of them has raced MX but Jeff has won several events with at the COP Short Course. Finally I tell them, if you guys race pro, I'll race pro. It worked. We managed to get 6 pros signed up for the ATV event.

I lined up so I would be on the outside going into the first turn. I figured the ATV's might bunch up on the inside, so I could get around them. I ended up 4th out of the gate (12 quads total I think). Jeff Hancock got the holeshot, with Lynne and her friend on their MX setup quads just ahead of me. It was real hard to pass at first, but we all stayed bunched up for the first coulple of laps. Slyder was right behind me. I managed to get around Lynn and the other pro MX quad. Lynn stuck to me like glue though, and eventually passed me back. My arms just got pumped up real bad. It's hard muscling a desert quad around an MX style course! They ran us backwards on some of the tracks so there were some harsh drop-offs that bottomed out my suspension. I hung with Lynn for a while but slowly drifted back about a full straightaway toward the end of the race. I looked back a few times only to find myself all alone. The white flag came out, and way to early it seemed, just as the blood was beginning to flow through my forearms again. We only raced for 50 minutes. I thought this was supposed to be an hour and 15 minute race. I got 3rd in the pro class and 3rd overall. Jeff Hancock overalled the race. I should have kept my mouth shut so he wouldn't take the money. He'll need it though, because his 4 stroke Raptor was smoking like a chimney on that last lap. Only first and second got paid. Still it was fun! I'll probably do it again next year...might even have to go check out the WORCS race next month. Slyder overalled the non-pro classes! Congrats Slyder!!
