View Full Version : Is there anywhere to ride in phoenix anymore?
Thinking of getting a bike again, but it seems there's almost nowhere to ride anymore. I used to go riding at the riverbottom at 107th ave and Camelback, used to be tons of people out there and it was great because it's only a few miles away. Also a few times went up to Lake Pleasant to the trail that leads to Crown King, it's kind of flat out there though.
Anyways it sounds like they're closing all the riding spots, is there anywhere at all to ride in the west valley or what's the closest place?
Wes
edit- I was looking at the trails, how about the one at 51st ave and Happy Valley is that still open?

Not really "Phoenix" but Close.... MM 11.5 Near Lake Pleasant- Directions: I-17 to Carefree Highway. Go west for 17 miles to LP6 and turn right. Proceed north on LP6 for 1 3/4 miles to the Boulders.
AND/OR
From the RA Trail Guide: Sycamore Creek- Go Highway 87 (Beeline Highway) You can enter the Recreation Area in a couple places. Go 1.5 miles beyond the Saguaro lake turnoff, but you make a left to the west. Its about .5 miles before the Rolls area turnoff. The road into the area is an unmaintained road. You can park or camp on either side of this road or you can drive all the way down to the wash.

Peoria police really started to crack down on that area. A huge fine if they catch you on the south side of the dam. I went riding north of the dam Thursday. There is still alot of water back there. Also the single track is blocked off about 3/4 of the way through. They are building houses. We had to park at the Wild Horse.

I used to launch south of the dam there on Jomax, but it wasn't hard to see that housing developments were starting to move in. One day a buddy of mine and I were riding and when we got back to our trucks a large plow had plowed us completely in ! Fortunately he was also a rider and was cool enough to plow us a small path out, but I gotta say I was a bit surprised by the whole thing.
To ride anywhere near that area my buddies and I have been launching from the "Wild Horse West" out near 99th and Carefree. There is still quite a bit of land around there to ride on hopefully for at least the next few years.

FYI Cave Creek at Dynamite is closed as of March 16
You can ride at Dynamite & Pima go past pima u-turn and park under the power lines. There are two trails Following the power lines North
1st 1/2 mile is a quiet area (Also watch for highkers and bikes)
Also i like to ride in the Tonto National Forest on the way to Barttlet just make sure you pay to park its about 4miles in to first pay station. 3 miles in there is a large wash people park on both sides approx 4.5 miles there is a dirt raod (Old ????) its a left
if you have a small trailer and 4x4 you can park about 1/2 mile in and ride all the way to Barttlet.
Note: All miles are my best estimate and are not to be used as a true source of mapping[8D]

Cave creek and dynamite closed? I was riding there on the 20th of March, and didn't see any signs at all.

A couple of us went to Bartlett about 2 weeks ago. The trails were the coolest in the Phoenix area. I hope to get back there once more before the heat gets unbearable. We rode down to the river. There are so many trails be careful not to get lost. There is a parking area right at the turnoff to Bartlett. We parked there and put about 45 miles on our bikes. Definitely worth the trip.

Do you need an Arizona state land use permit to ride at the Dynamite & Pima area ?
Thanks

Went out to the rolls last weekend, pretty cool trails. I might try up at Bell and Crozier this weekend.

You certainly do, this is State Trust Land. You will however encounter some Tonto National Forest Land out there as well.
