I was planning on taking the family to Verde Valley this weekend. Are there any good camping spots close by. I've never been there.

I went riding at a place just north of the Cordes Junction turnoff (about 6-8 miles) that was pretty cool.
The turnoff is called Dugas.
It's a dirt road with some turnoffs that either go into the hills on the left or down to the creeks on the right.
The second turnoff to the right,(if I remember) went down to this really nice clearing by the creek with shade and a good flat area.
Not designated campgrounds but just cool places to camp with lots of good beginner level dirt road riding.
I added a sim of the road to this map.
Pretty, semi private, easy to get to.

My neighbor and her family ( apro 15-20 people) are heading to that exact spot this weekend. Family tradition I am told. 45 min from New River. Tempting, but I will pass this holiday weekend.

If your riding at Hay Field Draw and just want a place to camp you can just pull down any of the forest roads around their and camp. Heading toward Cottonwood from Hay Field Draw on your right side of 260 you will see thousand trails right across from it on your left is a forest road were their are some good places to pull over and camp at if you like it with no one around
