The triple clamp for the blue beast should be here in a couple of days, the suspenders need to go to Randy (gotta sell the pig first), then I'm ready, it's gonna be FUN [:p][:p]

I've been praying to the bike delivery gods, believe me!
This is the hardest wait I've ever indured. I went out to ET the other day and burned some laps on Rapers 426. It didn't take me long to realize that I hadn't forgot how to ride It's just my endurance is going in the dumps. I need to go on a diet or something. Maybe I need to pray to the armpump gods a little more also.
I'll be ready in Feb. for sure. I missed the O/A in the Whiplash Hieroglyphic race last year by one Dayton Raper and he might not race this year, so I'm hoping for a miracle. I would love to win that race. It's been a while since someone let me win one. I bet Brian Brunning well have something to say about that to.

Rick, now that you have that "BLUE THUNDER" I wish you would reconcider and run the complete Whiplash series next year. I know you did not like some of the venues Jay put us through this year,( It was tough on all of us. ) Come on, You, Jim Chapmen, & myself! Lets make a run for the 40+ O/A in 2003![:p] This will most likely be my last full year if my wife has her way[xx(] Phil

My reasons not to get totally involved with WP series.
To big of a commitment for one as wishy washy as myself. :D
Mexico it out, my sponsor, pit team, spouse respectfully requests that I refrain from that area of competition (I believe the response was, no way in .... ):D.
WP GPs do not interest me, I tried em, I didn't like em.[B)].
There are races outside of WP I plan on racing this year, I might not race Snowflake this year it's the week before the Knucklebuster, not enough recovery time for an old fart like me :D and I am racing in the Knucklebuster again, that was the funnest race I have participated in.
If I get lucky in the hunt lottery, all racing/riding ceases immediatly on sucessful draw results, the suspension/ban will remain in effect until post hunt, it would totally suck to get hurt and not be able to utilize a tag I have waited YEARS for. :(
I just want to ride and have fun, not worry about a points chase.
Oh, and about June or July I am going to start building a sand buggy.
Have I weaseled enough [:o)][?]:D:D:D

Rick,
All valid points. I hear you loud and clear about the commitment thing. It's hard to run a series and not do the races you don't like.
If you are going to make a run at the points, you have to do ALL the races. The competition is too stiff not too, but it's hard to spend all that hard earned cash and much deserved vacation time on a race you don't really want to do (Gila Bend neck breaker-100, Mexico siltbed-100, Cinders in the shorts-100 etc..).
I had made a run for the points for about 4 years in a row until I got hurt. I never won a championship, but got close a few times. Since I got hurt in 2000 and have only been doing a handful (or should I say fistful) of races a year and not the 30 to 35 a year I did in 1998 and 1999 I'm having a lot more fun. I look back at all the things I put aside to race pointless races for a little plastic trophy like hunting, and family gatherings and I regret a lot of them. The one that is the hardest for me is the family vacation me and my wife had to pass up with my cousin and others a month before he died because of a stupid race that was so unimportant I can't even remember what it was.
Racing a desert series or any series is a HUGE commitment, financial and mental. I would rather race the "fun" ones and spend more time with my family and friends. My dad is retired now, and does a lot of camping, hunting, and fishing. It is my responsibility to make sure he doesn't do much of it alone. Tough job I know, but some one has to do it.
BTW Rick, don't judge all Whiplash GP's on the Tucson GP. That was an exceptionally crappy race. Their GP's are usually a lot of fun. I love GP's, and can't wait to do more this year.
I'm totally with you on the hunt draws. I have a lot of Bonus points for Elk, and I'm not blowing them away if I get drawn at the same time as a cool race.
Hope to see everyone at the races. I should be able to make most of the Whiplash series, but if something else comes up......

Well I understand the spouses point of veiw. My wife would like me to call it quites right now. I know this is it for me, now or never. I have been off from bikes for 17 years till this past april 2002. As for hunting, I decided to sit this year out and focus on one full season of doing what I have wanted to do all my life. Devoice & child support have drowned me the passed 16 years, nows it's my time to play. The kids have grown and off to collage & the service. My parents & family all live here locally. I'm going to give it one shot next season. Hopefully I can be satisfied with that and go on to other hobbies & interest's. Hey Rick, keep us imformed on the Knocklebuster race, that sounds fun. I'd like to give it a shot if I can fit it in to my schedule. Anyway, I just got back from the Whiplash Office. I put in my entry form for the Sandy Beach G.P. & my new number for next year will be # 611. Still not sure if I'll make to the Speedworld G.P. this weekend. I'm still limpping around from my tumble in Mexico. Phil # 611

That's not very smart. Who's going to pay for everything if the wife is home with all HER money. You did read the fine print on the wedding vows, right? "What's hers is hers, whats yours is hers". That's the way I read it.
I may be up for that race too. I have heard a lot of goods things about it. I just don't see the fun in SF anymore. I'm taking the wife though. She digs the out of state races.

We have an understanding... ;)

I'm prepping for next season by putting new grips on Brutus. Sounds like I'm all set, eh?
Never met a CR500 I didn't like.

Be nice to Brutus and give him a new rear tire. That will make him a heck of a lot faster.

Well, Brutus got a new PWK carb, new skins (gotta love that 140/80-18 M5B), a new Burly pipe and has fresh reeds and a top end. Also, freshly revalved suspension, dialed in as well. Some other new items and a set of spare wheels round out the list. Sounds like the old boys might run alright this next season.

Who did you decide on for your suspenders?
David Gronlund
Scott McCracken. Dayton knows him and he does a lot of other guys stuff that I ride with. He was about the cost of an oil change elsewhere and basically revalved and new oil (with new seals and bushings I provided). The shock works well now and is very adjustable with the clickers. It's plush in rocks and soaks up hits pretty well. I am playing with the fork clickers still but they work loads better too. The orifices in the fork pistons are small (from '89 until '93 when Honda wised up) and don't flow well. He drilled them out quite a bit but if they are still feeling harsh in the long term, it's Gold Valve time.
Just what he did on mine has me singing his praises. If you want his number, let me know. The price is right and he's sharp.
