I'm an armature fisherman (totally) and want to get better at it. So, I'm thinking about putting together an easy ride to a fishing spot but not sure what would be a good destination.
I was thinking about Clear Creek (because I like trout), but I don't know a good starting/staging spot to make it a "fun" ride. Heck, I don't even know if we can ride there. I've never been there either.
Anyone? Ideas?
Jeff

Oh, and I found this today. Pretty cool way to find fishing spots!

What part of Clear Creek were you looking at?
The only two access points that I know of are Bull Pen on the lower end and west of Clint's Well on the upper end.
I am also assuming that you are talking about West Clear Creek.

West - right, sorry. Do you have coordinates on Bull Pen or Clint's Well?

If it weren't for the living in Anthem part, I'd say the log corral trail from the beeline to Bartlett.

If you hadnt hurt my feelings by backing out of my ride i wouldnt have to be petty and childish and keep all my spots a secret from you.

I called the Red Rock District ranger's office and asked a few questions regarding the Clear Creek west area.
She told me I could ride on 3 and 4 digit numbered roads/trails. Only street legal quads are allowed on 3 digit roads.
If I wanted to camp outside of the 18 designated campgrounds at Clear Creek, she suggested the area I marked in red on the attached image. It's for dispersed camping.
So, I think I'm going to do a little scouting in the area before I put together a ride. I'm thinking an easy, family overnighter with fishing at Clear Creek. If anyone's interested let me know and I'll email when I get some more details.

The coordinates for Bull Pen is N34 32 19.1, W111 41 22.5.
We used to fish there back in the 70's. Game and Fish would stock it in the Spring and Fall. The water gets pretty warm in the Summer. The elevation is 3680ft.
There are a lot of access points north of 260 east of Mud Tanks and west of 87 but the hiking trails down into the canyon can be pretty rough.

Another ride and fish you might want to look into is around Haigler Creek.

Ya, I'm thinking April is about it for that elevation...we'll see, heck we had snow in that area in April 2007 wasn't it?
Ok I will share my best fishing spot, its Chevelon canyon lake. There is a bar across the road that goes down to the lake. A quad without bags will fit under the bar and you can ride down to the lake.
Hike below the spillway and you can use any type of bait. The best time to fish is now while the snowmelt is flowing over the Spillway, The fish congregate in the pools below the spillway and even try to swim back up it.

Wife and i like to camp at the far North end of the road to Young off the 260. We ride a couple of miles South to a turn off I believe is called Canyon Creek, A few more miles to the creek at the bottom of the hill, it runs through the fish hatchery. lots of Rainbow and Browns in there. We catch our limit then ride back to camp and cook em up!

i'd be in for a ride and fish trip. although i would have to make it a ride and shoot trip as i haven't been fishing since the '80's when we went into the high lakes in Orgeon and when we got back down someone stole our fishing gear. don't have extra $$$ for fishing gear. shooting photos is good for me.

Okay then. That's "one" for the list. This may turn into a Camp-Ride-Fish event.
Haigler creek is the bomb. make sure your packin a 44 mag for sure. Last time camping there we had some bears wonder thru our camp and scratch some trees.

Not so down for the fishing part but I have a few fellas on dual sports that like to bike and camp we can leave the fishing to the experts although I do have a collapsible rod and reel in my bike-N-Camp Gear
Flat head fishing, either Dugas rd down to the hot springs or Bartlett lake across from the stick ups. We throw back everything under 8 lbs.
Ride - fish - camp would be great, especially since your talking trout and stream or small lake fishing. I'll be at Tonto creek on the first weekend of May with another group. I will report back what I discover there as well.

I will be posting some two day ATV ride, camp, & fish adventures. Leave on Friday and come back on Sunday.
I'm thinking of riding from my house in Mesa, through Four Peaks and up to Young to Haigler Creek or to the Rim Lakes...
Some of us did a Haigler Creek camp & fish ride several years ago in April and it was very COLD at night. The creek had almost no water and the poor trout looked starved.
This year, with all the snow melt, I expect better water levels and fatter fish. I'm going to try to plan a trip to Haigler Creek or Chevlon Lake in May, when it is a little warmer. We will be hauling our camping stuff on our quads to the camp location.
Katt, the reason why we stored all that food in your tent at the last Haigler Creek camp out was due to the bears there. We didn't want them coming to our tents during the night.:out::out::out:
