View Full Version : AZ Native Destry Abbott wins round one
The inaugural BITD Parker-250 was the first race of the season.
Peoria Az resident and Kawasaki Team Green Rider Destry Abbott along with Teammate Shane Espisito won the race by over 10 minutes, congrats Des and Shane. I always thought they should team together. Destry has been teaming with Brian Brown for the last few years.
Must be nice to get the season started off with a win. Hopefully they can bring home Az and Kawy another Championship.

I got second overall in the Whiplash version of Parker 200 in 1999 behind KTM's factory pilot Matt Murphy by 12 minutes. You want to talk about embarrassing. He was standing there with his street clothes on and a couple blonde hotties under each arm at the finish line when I came in. The worst part was that he was on a 250 and I was on my KX500. I got the holeshot off the start and started to check out. He would catch me in the whoops and pass me and I would blow his doors off on the straights and he would go skipping by in the rough stuff again. Talk about opposite riding styles. Obviously there were a lot more rough spots than fast spots. I gave him some nice high speed passing welts to take home with him though, along with my entry fee. I would pass him and cut right in front of him so he would get it all. He always passed me way off to the side. Probably scared I'd try to take him out. He was right to be cautious. I wanted that race bad. We were really good friends right up to that race, I wonder what happened.
Anyways, Des finishing that far ahead reminds me of the last superstar Kawy pilot - Danny Hamel. The best there ever was.

Hamel was one fast pilot! Great to Destry back in action and can't wait to see them all this weekend at Canyon.

Hey Speaking of Danny Hamel, are Dave and Julie Hamel that run the WORCS series related to him? I've been emailing Julie back and forth about getting some good photo spots at the WORCS ATV race. She set me up with a track pass. We'll be covering the race in the magazine. Lots of local desert ATV pros as well as some nationally ranked racers like Doug Eichner will be running Sunday. Should be a great race!

I don't believe if they are related to Danny, but you never know

I believe Dave is Danny's brother.

Dave Hamel is Danny's brother and Roger & Marcia Hamel are their parents. They all kinda got away from the racing scene when Danny died. It's nice to see the family effort with the WORCS series.
