knocking on wood.

I have the new bike (2003 WR450) showing up any day now, and I was able to get back my beloved #7 plate for this season.

I have never been superstitious, but I have had an uneasy feeling everytime I showed up to the start line without the triple sevens on my number plates (especially when we had to run the triple 6's in baja). I've been running the 7 for 4 years prior to last year, and I am happy to have them back.

Hopefully I can get out there and win something for a change. I hate giving my entry fee away.

Awesome picture, David. Don't laugh, I have a favorite number as well. Humans, we're quirking beings, huh?

Don't follow David. There must be an easier way![:0];):D

I think this is going to be a good year too.... I am planning at the moment to attend six of the events. I work on sundays, so it makes it a little tough to get out there and race.

I used to work shift work, weekends and all so I know how it is trying to get a day off. They hated me at that stupid job. I was like a politician trying to get guys to trade days off with me to race. I made promises I could never keep, and that was over 3 years ago. I'm glad they shut that mine down. It was a blessing in disguise for me. The money sure was nice though.

David Gronlund,

Great, David. I hope you run 'em into the ground. Sounds like some big SCORE races, among others this year for you. Good luck with the new iron as well.

Never met a CR500 I didn't like.

The goggles are hanging on my arm. I was just coming in to pit at the Snowflake race (hence being off the course a little.) I pull my goggles off the last 100 feet or so I can just drop them on the ground and slap the new pair on and waste little to no time doing it as the gas is being dumped.

Scotts!?! No way man, I am sponsored by Goat Eyewear (Goat Brecker - former SX star). He makes some pretty cool goggles. I believe they are more comfortable than a lot of others I've had.

That picture was taken by Tony Tellier from Offroad.com. He had it on the front page of his web site until one of my sponsors got into an argument with him then all of a sudden my picture became a big red X. Go figure. It was all just a big misunderstanding.

Tony has done some cool stories on me and my team mates though. He wrote an awesome story about us in the Baja-500 this last year. I'm glad to have him on my team.

BIKE INSERT

Steve Hengeveld blew through Ojos like he was on fire. Phwew! The 250 leader, Dayton Raper, stopped due to a blubbering KX. An ultra- calm Dave Gronlund changed the main jet – 170 down to 162 as Eric Brown commiserated with Dayton: “Look at this rear tire! You’ve chunked it out!” Raper was more concerned about losing his huge lead as Eddie Zeller and Gerardo Rojas both ring-dinged by.

(Q: How DID Dayton beat those guys on a bike that barely ran? Unless it only ran bad when it was off full-throttle!)

Dayton rode all the way to Mike’s, San Telmo, and the Power Station on that POS tire. At Valle de la Trinidad/Lazaro Cardenas/whatever they cleaned the foam air filter and put it back in loaded with gas: the bike was then so fat that they had to push start it. They won handily, anyway. Go figger.

Richard Jackson (500X) was in fine Checker form, as was partner Bob Wadlow -- they won, again. And were 26th OA, including everybody. This is Jackson’s tenth class win at the “500”. Zzzz. Christian Lee (302X) a member of the Signal Hill-famous Hilltoppers MC was 4th in “30”.

The first two bikes – Steve Hengeveld/Johnny Campbell and Andy Grider/Danny Cooper beat ten hours. Third overall was Aaron “Air” Tuck/Craig Smith. Troy Herbst’s Truggy was 4th OA OA.

That good feeling just went away. Dezrcr (Ben Hutchinson) just moved up into the Pro class. Good luck Ben, I will be looking over my shoulder for you. I'm sure I'll be seeing you back there with that weird look in your eye that you get sometimes.

You are one crazy mother. You have it all wrong my friend. I will be looking over my shoulder for you. And I'm sorry if I get that weird look in my eye. I just think about winning too much. I love it, course who doesn't?
