Well, Stacy and I decided to check out how the whole thing was setup on saturday...then got a wild hair up our a**es and decided to enter for sunday.....we figured it would be cool to scream across the desert...not too hard....and not being able to pre-run the course.....well, of course after 1/2 mile into it we found out how technical it really was....4 laps of 19 miles with only 2 miles of that being high speed pinned smooth. Stacy got second and I got 1st in the first timers quad class. we also saw zvohnte out there...i saw him on the second, third, and fourth lap...broken down, dunno what happened yet. i ruined 2 brand new holeshot tires and douglas .190 rims......never made a whole lap on 4 good tires!! Stacy's wife was kind enough to lend me a stock wheel off her brand new z400 on the second lap....then after i blew the second holeshot tire 3 miles later, i decided to run the last 50 miles on the flat....the rim looks really cool now! i also (because of the flat) went 2 feet off the trail up the big hill and got a cactus across my neck...that really sucked..still sucks today. we had alot of fun, and will definately keep doing it.

Dear Nate - I thought long & hard about responding to this but without sounding to heavy or serious (because I'm not) the racing format may not be the place for a signature "Crashing is what it's all about" because Racers have all suffered to many broken bones & attended one to many funerals. Racing is a dangerous sport and all true racers think "Crashing Sucks"! Just a personal thought. I'm sure you don't mean it to be offensive - just showing my "sensitive side" Later 747

Now now Mark, I'm sure he doesn't mean any disrespect. I'm sure the first time he sees a good friend die or get flown out in a 4-winged bird he'll change his bi-line. It's just a matter of time.

i am easy to spot, i was the only suzuki quad out there according to the long-haired tech that did inspection....

and that I got towed in last.... its time to ditch the stock crap on this bike so and get some real parts for that thing.....

MAAANNN ,no direspect but i am sure glad to see someone else has ruined as many tires as i have in Whiplash, Last lake pleasanst run i was in the top three and blew a humonguas hole in the front[xx(]. I have 3 sets of blown out, tubed backups on my trailer. I finally spent the 600.00 for holeshots, w/ ringed wheels ( which I know will not cure my problem but at least help. ) I have already "Tacoed" a set of Douglas .190. I put 14 plugs side by side to repair the front (hey it still works)

ridinaz, be well aware, its an expensive sport, I am learning really quick.... I am already having to dump almost a grand into this quad just in repairs....

z-you wouldn't have to dump $$ into it if you would have had a SKID PLATE!!! my ac skid plate was band new and looked real pretty....by the end of the race, it was wrapped around both my sprocket and brake disc...but i didn't break down...i felt like i was riding on the skid plate alot due to all the flat tires i got.......i wouldn't suggest an AC plate either...it didn't hold up well...prm looks alot more sturdy for the swingarm plates. i never run one in the dunes, but always in the desert.

Zhvonte: I'm sure I left a fair amount of aluminum out there on several of those rocks. I hit a few so hard that I got spanked by my seat. My PRM skid held up GREAT!! That's the brand most of us are running. Mine was already cracked and beaten from previous races, bu continues to do its job. I haven't tried the Pro Armour skids you ordered. You'll have to give us a product evaluation after your next race.

On the other hand- I did have a fair amount of other damage. I started off with a brand new set of rear Douglas Rims and Maxxis Razrs. I trashed one of the tires on the second lap. On the fourth lap. I taco'd the rim on the other side. My rear shock is pretty much wasted to. Actually, before the race started, I noticed my rebound adjustment was non-existent. I could dial it from one side to the other, and it still came up just as fast..to fast.

Glad to hear you 900 guys had a great time. Sounds like you all had fun and plan to be back next race.

jeff, is my little write-up I sent you via PM sufficient for you to put in the article???

I am thinking of going back to where we race on sunday in the next week or so just to kick around, I really really liked the area a lot... it be a good place to test my skid. Let me know if you are interested in going..... (assuming I get the rotor taken cared of)

Zhvonte- The PM looks good. I'll work it in there somewhere. Thanks!
That is my favorite riding area near Phx. We ride out there quite a bit. I'll send you an email next trip. My quad may be down for a bit while my rear shock gets repaired.
