I want to get a set of Sand Stars for my LT 500. I have 22" on the front. But I have 8" tall rims on the back and the 22" stars only come in 10" would the 20" be to small for that quad. They also have
20" sand sharks real cheap. I don't go spend a lot of money as will most likely only go twice this year but don't want to get stuck either.

I run 20in. Sand Stars on the rear of my Raptor with the 8in. rims. I am sure yours would be fine. If the Sand Sharks are worth the savings go with them. We run both on our quads.

Hmmm.... I'm not a fan of V paddles personally. If it were me I'd go with an inexpensive set of Cheng Shin Dunehoppers or GBC Sand Devil straight paddles. They are both molded paddles, straight and tough. I know the Cheng Shin tires can be had in a 22" tire for 8" rim - I have a set and they work well.

WOW first time I have ever seen someone recommend Sand Devils. I run haulers, but they are more expensive than the others. Sand Stars are nie I hear.

the 20inch will work fine on the Bike and the stars are great tires. But as Az Griz mentioned the Sand Sharks or devils will work fine as well, especially for a couple of trip a year.

Im with hammer! I run Haulers on all 3 of our bikes. Nothing like throwing a 20ft long roost[}:)]

I have 2 sets of Haulers/Extreme Haulers and yes, they are the best paddle but NativeAZ did mention the word cheap so that counts them out. Do I recommend the inexpensive molded paddles over Haulers from a performance point? No. But, I do recommend them for somebody that wants a decent paddle that is cheap and tough.

BTW, I use the Dunehoppers at the Cinders so I don't ruin my good paddles.

One word of caution if you are still considering the Sand Stars.
I run a set of Sand Stars on my DS650 and everyone, and I do mean
EVERYONE complains about the giant wall of shrapnel they throw up.
I'm not talking about a long roost, but a big cloud of debris. They
turn better than any other paddle I've owned though, and I've run
about every type of paddle ever made. But I agree with the all the
posts above this..Nothing hooks up better than a Hauler/Extreme Hauler.

I run the 22" Stars on my DS as well and love them! They are not for racing straight up the hill all day though (as stated already). As far as turing and playing? you cant beat the stars. The other 2 ds' in our group cant stay behind me because they run straight paddles and dont have the turning capability I do.

It comes down to personal preference.

I really like the sandstars on my YFZ. I'll add that I also get complaints about the sand they shoot at people, but I just tell them not to ride so close [8D] They're awesome for duning, and I think they do great on the hill. I'm considering some straight paddles on .125s to run at the drags though, just to see if there is a difference.

I run a set of 20-11-10 Sand Skate II's on my 500 and am happy with them. I use to run a set of haulers, they worked well on the hill and the drags but when it came to ridin the bowls they sucked, only made for straight line. When I got my banshee it came with a set of sand sharks and after a few trips I replaced them with a set of sand stars, I didnt like the sand sharks and the were heavier than the sand stars I bought.

I have a set of skates and Haulers work great on everything you want ,,your money though..
And for the CINDERS use the cheaps because anything with HP is going to tear them up..(molded only)

Anyone have any luck with Kenda's Geckos? I have a pair of old Haulers, but they fit my banshee (which I don't have anymore) and they are pretty tore up. I am not into the drags as much, and am looking for some new paddles.

We have Geckos on our warrior and scrambler and work just fine.

Some of my friends also run Geckos and they are just as good as the rest of them. IMO

It was me asking all the questions, but now I have formed my own opinions since duning ...I have a set of Sand Stars and a set of Geckos

Sand Stars:

These really dig in and give great side hill stabilty if yeah like shooting the bowls and doing the big stuff plus they really do well going straigh up the drag hills, etc. They ride pretty rough on the hard pack though, like when coming into camp, etc. and I think this also contributes to a bit more vibrations felt through the bike even when up on the softer stuff.

Geckos:

Just good all around paddles. They are tough, ride smooth even of hard pack sand, traction is good up the hill, side hill stabilty is ok, can play around a bit with them as they slide a bit easier when you breask em loose, etc. But they really are not "great" at anything except toughness.

I want to try a set of Sand Skates next as my buddy who has them just seems to be the nimblest out in the dunes and has alot of fun playing around with them ... huge roosts, can slide around at will, and seems to be able to hook up well when necessary. Well, maybe its because he also rides a banshee ...

We started going to the dunes January of this year and bought a set of Sand Stars and Sand Sharks. I definately prefer the Sand Stars. They work well in the bowls, hill climbs and drags. The Sand Sharks do not hook as well and tend to slide a lot more. Also, they do not last as long. The the paddles on Sand Sharks we have are ripping apart and the Sand Stars are still looking great. The Sand Sharks are a little cheaper but if you can only get 1 dune season out of them it's not worth it. I just bought a new set of Sand Stars at R ATV for $129 on Douglas Blue label wheels.

I just picked up a set of Sand Stars, and they should be shipped here soon. I appreciate all the input. Thanks.

I am coming in late on this & see jared made a decision. However, I support some of the earlier comments about Haulers.

Haulers are on all of our bikes. I can't think of one negative aspect of the performance & durability of these paddles.

I personally would never consider anything but Haulers.

I couldn't pass up the deal, an eBay company goofed up and listed two Sand stars tires and ITP T9 wheels for the price of one. I couldn't pass up the deal. I agree probably work the best, but I am on a tighter budget now, and can't afford them.
