There's pros and cons for something like this. I've seen it implemented successfully at other sites. Its basically a profile of a member or member family so that others on the site can get to know them better. It would be kind of a "spotlight" on a member feature. Some elements & criteria for RA member of the month could include:
1) Individual and family photos
2) Photos of rides and favorite haunts
3) More bio info - home state, work, hobbies, etc., etc.
4) Interview with the member using a series of set questions like - How long have you been riding? What is your favorite part of the site? ....I'm sure that there are lots more good ones.
5) Could be restricted at first to some of the more well known or prolific posters on the site that have say > 1000 or 2000 posts.
6.) The overall purpose beyond recognizing specific members & their support, would be to encourage info sharing, personalize the site, promote interest in riding, the state and the site.
Something like this would take time - perhaps it could be assigned to senior trail guide type. It could be restricted to a members only access like photo sections. It would need proper planning and follow through to be successful. Getting a good format and sticking with it is probably critical to its success. But I think it could be a fun feature to read about some of the splotlighted members on the site. I'd be happy to nominate a few if I'm asked (heh, heh:D). Members will anticipate it. They will look forward to seeing who'll be the next RA Member of the Month.
The cons include...
1) It can be considered exclusive & exclusionary (only a very small % will ever get to be RAMMs)
2) It takes commitment & maintenance - got to keep up with it each and every month (or whatever other period is decided). It won't go over well if its hit or miss.
Those are the only drawbacks I can think of right now.
....Anyway, just a little brainstorming here and food for thought. Let me know what you think.
