View Full Version : Services and trades section!
Hey Shannon, how about a section that allows members to advertise what they do or a service they have to offer (landscape, taxes, animal care and so on)? Since the majority is local it could be a benifit to all.
Thanks

Thats a great idea Shane! How about it Shannon?[:p]
We've been trying to figure out a way to do this for some time. How do we? 1. releave RA of any liability in the transaction 2. provide the categorization so our membership can find the services they want 3. take on the extra work...because I belive this would have to be an area that is heavily moderated 4. cover the extra bandwidth incurred by this new non-OHV area of the site.
How do you feel about the area being demand driven, as opposed to sales driven? What I mean is that a member in need of a product/service would post "I need the following." Then all the applicable businesses could reply or contact the person with their offering. I could allow subscriptions to the area so all the businesses could subscribe and be notified of any posts, eliminating the need for them to check it everyday....the system will tell them when there is a post.
Thoughts???

Shannon, that sounds like a good idea, if it is not a ton of work. Would you want to keep the businesses OHV related?

I think it is a great idea. I already have posted asking for numbers etc for services I was in need of. Worked out well for me. By the way I am looking for a Plumber!!

First let me say thanks for entertaining this idea.[8D]
I never thought of the liabilty aspect of the whole thing.
Here are my thoughts as to posting and responding to services and
trades.
Merchant PM's Shannon with the listing.
*EXAMPLE*
Taxes: Blah blah blah. Blah blahblaaaah. Rate is $xx.xx an hour for appiontments please PM me for further information.
Shannon posts the listing in a searchable thread that we (RA members) can not reply to. That way the thread stays manageable. If someone wants the service or trade just send the merchant a PM and let them handle the transaction.
The only problem with it being demand driven is the whole "my cousins roomates brother knows a dude who....." scenario.

What about using our Links Directory? I can create a new section for it and call it ____? I will need a good name for it. I can create all the sub-categories necessary for it. Members can submit their own businesses to the directory and they will be visible AFTER a moderator approves them. This will also allow other members to rate the service/product, etc. Will this work?
That sounds great!
You can call it "At Your Own Risk".:D
[^]Hey sounds good to me[^]! I'm surprised other self-employed peeps aren't jumping on this *free*, *local* showcase?
Thanks again Shannon![8D]
