The Trail Riders of Southern Arizona and the Tucson BLM will be doing a cleanup of the Saginaw Hill area on April 23rd starting at 7:30. This area is just north of the Casino del Sol near the intersection of W. Valencia Rd and S. Mark Rd in SW Tucson. We'll have a 20-yard dumpster provided by the BLM and we'd like to fill it. There are a few remote pieces of trash that would be retrieved easier using quads since getting trucks to the area might be a problem. The bicycle frames found on the property will be donated to Bicycle Inter-Community Arts and Salvage (BICAS) of Tucson.

Here's some info on the place. It has one large tailing pile and another tailing area that are fenced off and won't be accessed by the group. There are also several small shafts. After reading the article, you'd expect to see something that looks like Chernobyl out there, but it doesn't. Just a big pile of gravel with a fence around it.

Thanks to all who attended.

We had 10 TRSA members, a local person from the nearby neighborhood, and 6 folks from the BLM.
It was a good day and was made better when we found out that one of the TRSA members, Rick Davis, had brought cookies. During the cookie break, we made time to get in a small Tread Lightly training session for our Sierra Vista members.

The BLM brought vehicles, bags, and rented a 20 yard dumpster. By noon the dumpster was 3/4 of the way full and the area that we were able to clean up looked better than it did when we found it.

It was a good day.

Hats off to you and your group Andy for getting the job done! It's people like yourself that help us keep the trails open for all! Not to mention the relationships that are built with the land managers are helpful too. Thanks again.
