I am interested in purchasing a new weekend warrior toy hauler. Anyone know the markup on these? how much haggle room is there with the dealer?

You should be able to get one for at least 25% off of list price plus tax and license. Don't settle for anything less. After you get a price from the dealer in Mesa get a on-line quote from Giant RV in California. They will bring it right to your door.

I got a quote from Giant yesterday for a 21' superlight, fully loaded with the generator option, price to my door was $21,000 and some change.. It's awesome, just have to talk the wife into it now[:p]

I think the only thing I was concerned about is the $3,500 for the generator option, Why the heck would it cost soo much? Onan 4 KW unit can't cost that much, could it???
Yea it can. You can get cheaper generators, but Onan will give you a better resale value.

Don't forget to figure in the charges that aren't included that you'll have to pay when you register it here. Sales tax on $21,000 + license fee. That's around $1700 that you probably won't be able to finance.
Going to have it delivered? I'm bettin' it ain't free delivery.
I did the Giant RV thing to, but when I took the quote over to the local WW dealer in Mesa, figured what it was going to cost to get it to me and added tax & license, they priced it close enough to make it worth my while. So unless you're a penny pincher, I don't think it's worth the hassle, that's IF they give you a competitive price here.

Norm they do but remember in that price is also the wiring of the generator and the fuel connection.

I agree with Glen. I bought mine two years ago from Giant RV and had them deliver it to the state line and I towed it back to town. I probably only saved $1500 when all was said and done. I did special order a couple of things though. If I was to do it over again I probably would buy it local if the price was right. Just remember that even though you might buy it in California you will pay state sales tax (at DMV) here when you go to have it licensed (this is obviously a no brainer) but what I did not know was you will end up paying city sales tax also. You get a letter in the mail, at least I did, and they want their cut of the pie. :( How do they know? They must get the purchase information from DMV. [xx(]

I bought mine in town a couple of years ago at Jim Bogards RV (I think they are Travelon now) and I was able to haggle quite a bit. Sales usually go down this time of year so they will be more than willing to deal a little to make the sale. I was able to get my loaded 21 ft superlite for 19k or so and the sticker was 24K. The onboard generator is nice, but for the cash you may just want to by a Honda and save a little $$$.
I shopped at Travelon looking at the SL3005 5th. Sticker 34k they said 27k before taxes ect. Loved to have it but didn't want that payment.
Most people I've talked to that didn't get the on board gen wished they did............

Not only do you have the generator ready to go but by getting the fuel station, I optioned for the larger 36 gallon, you never have to haul gas in cans anymore. :)

I only have the 15 gallon fuel station, but even as small as it is it gets a lot of use. I also do love the generator and the Onans are pretty nice.
My Desert Fox also has the Onan 4000. I, too debated the issue of having it included or going without and using a couple of Honda gens. I'm glad I have the Onan.
Now the idea of having to get out and hook up the generator, start it up, AND keep it secure seems like a lot more trouble than just hitting the "start" button inside the rig.

Agreed. Just pushing 'start' in the morning to make coffee makes it well worth the cost. [:p]
My wife and I bought our first Weekend Warrior from Bogard's here in town because he matched Giant's price. After the sale I became very unhappy with the way I was treated by them concerning warranty issues. On our second purchase, we bought it from Giant. You are going to pay the sales tax one way or another, and if you want to finance it when buying it out of state, you can do it. You just have to work with Giant RV on adjusting the purchase order for you loan provider, and then they will cut you a check for the difference...now you have the cash to pay the tax at the DMV. The only extra cost you will encounter through Giant is going to be the delivery fee which I think was around $350.
I personally, would prefer to give my business to the dealer who will give you a good price straight from the start, instead of one that tells you their "bottom line" until you threaten to buy it elsewhere.
Just my 2 cents.
I been looking at getting the WW sx16 model, last I check a month ago they werent available yet, anyone know if they are around yet? It's a 06 model, not sure when 06 model comes out....
Here Ya go Z....Looking forward to having you on the road towing a toyhauler. [}:)]

gdavis, i appreciate the link. Every time I tried calling their 800 number they just give me the run around.... They wont tell me if its available and how much.... That was like a month ago or so, maybe I will give it another try.... So far giant rv and one other place havnt gotton it in yet....
and as far as towing goes, dont worry about me, I drive relitively safe....

Z....from your previous posts relating to pulling trailers.....you might consider the "side bumper option". Your trailer may be spending a lot of time on its sides in ditches along freeways:(

Don't forget Big Boys and Thier Toys show this weekend 10,11,12. You can look at around 30 different kinds, and they will probably make a good deal a the show.
I bought mine form Beaudry in Tucson a few years ago. At the time they beat Bogarts price. Besides Beaudry has dealership in Mesa where I have taken it for warrantee work. They just don’t sell Weekend Warriors at the Mesa store. I think it's worth checking with them.

I can tell you horror stories about warranty work here. I would rather burn my trailer than take it to Beardry to be worked on. When a supervisor of the store tells you personally that all of his employees are idiots and morons and we are sorry we can't find your trailer today but call us back in a little while and we will see if we can pretty well sums it up. Congrats On the new Hauler "Let The Games Begin" :D
I have an Weekend Warrior LE3305 (5th wheel) being delivered 7/30 at Beaudry RV in Tucson. I delt with SEVERAL companies before selecting Beaudry RV:
I scratched Travelon off the list first. Their approach is "get other quotes and we'll match them"; I do not appreciate that kind of business. Plus I have heard consistant complaints about their service.
Giant was in the ball park on price, but still too high to justify the drive to get it.
Haulin Toys in Ventura, CA was the cheapest; but again, after factoring true OTD price (...tax in AZ, title, license) and the two day commute to pick it up (he wouldn't deliver to the border), my true savings was only $750 below Beaudry (and Haulin Toys is just a small operation vs. Beaudry RV being a HUGE facility).
If anybody here in the Valley wants a 'no bs' purchase, then call Kipp @ Beaudry RV - 1-888-849-6887. He will quote you over the phone, and he hits the bottom line quick. Tell him Aaron sent ya (...no kickbacks to me, I just want him to know I support him).

I hope their service is better than their Mesa store. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

After dealing with a portable genset on my first toyhauler, and now having a Warrior with a 4.0 Onan onboard, (I realize this is opinion), but I COMLETELY disagree. I think the advantages to the built-in unit are:
1) Ease of use- hit a button and let it run. No unloading, plugging in, blah blah blah with a portable.
2) Resale- I guarantee you cut your target market by 40-50% selling a trailer (like this) without a generator (built-in). That translates to more resale value in the end.
3) Cargo space- generators arent' THAT big, but when you're the slightest bit pinched for space, it SUCKS to have to factor in space for your generator.
I don't think you'll regret getting a generator. You won't hardly notice the payment difference. On the other hand, I bet there'll be PLENTY of times you'll regret NOT getting a generator, should you choose not to.
Just my worthless .02.

The delivery isn't free. You only pay the sales tax where you take delivery. I picked mine up at Giant- tax rate was 8.0 instead of 7.8 in Mesa. The weird thing is I financed through Giant (which was BofA). I bank with BofA here in AZ, but they insist that the rig be registered/titled (first year at least) in CA, presumably so they don't have to deal with 49 other states' DMV's and get the titles from them (CA is a title-holding state, as AZ is now). BUT, my tags for first year on '06 FS2300 were $201- my '02 Baja (wayyyy cheaper trailer, even new), were running me $160 last year here in AZ, so it appears that CA's tags are cheaper than AZ on the new trailer. Sooo, I don't really care that it has CA plates right now. I'll see what the renewal is next winter and decide whether to register it in AZ at that time. I presumed (apparently incorrectly) that since it was CA (plates), it would be more $$$ than AZ.
Go figure.
BTW- After I had the deal worked from Shawn Z at Giant, I did priceshop Travelon. They got within $500, but I already had the wheels turning with Giant, so I went through with it. Next time, though, I may buy locally.

I bought my 2005 from Giant in California and I did not pay state or city sales tax there. They delivered the trailer to the state line and I brought it the rest of the way. I also did not register my trailer in California. Why would I, I live in Arizona. My trailer is financed thru Giant which uses B of A. After I got my trailer home I paid Arizona state taxes at MVD when I went to register it and few months later Mesa caught up with me and I had to pay city taxes.

Okay, again, I picked mine up there- that's the difference. They wanted $400 to haul it to Blythe, so I opted out. As far as the registration goes, 7.8% vs. 8.0= I don't care, it's insignificant. You won't find many people who hate California(ns) more than me, but I didn't feel like screwing with their plan. And the plates? If they're cheaper in CA (which surprises me), I wasn't concerned enough about that either to mess with their program. As far as Mesa charging you- I'm guessing that in their eyes, since your transaction didn't happen in CA (on paper), to them it happened in Mesa, which is also different than my case. To date, I have not received, nor will I pay should I receive, any assessment from them. My entire transaction happened in Murietta, CA, and I paid the appropriate fees for where the transaction took place. I think the State/local governments view picking up an item at the state line as a POSSIBLE attempt to avoid taxes due, and go after them a little more earnestly than a "normal" transaction.
Just a hunch.

I was told that there is a law in California that if I choose to pay the taxes back in Arizona that I could not pick up the trailer in California and I would need the trailer brought to the border. Sounds like we both got the deal we wanted. If I was to do it over again I probably would buy here in Arizona. It is a shame that the dealer in Mesa does not have a service department. Go figure.

5.6% in Tucson is significant enough to raise an eyebrow.
While I was getting quotes in CA, it was confirmed, more than once, that it is illegal to take possession in state lines if you are not paying sales tax there. However, you may find a dealer who will let that little law slip (I found one…remaining nameless).
I still believe that a deal in Tucson at Beaudry RV (competitive pricing and 5.6% tax) should not be overlooked. You can take the unit anywhere you like for warranty work; the service departments do not discriminate (good or bad) based on where you purchased the unit…they do not care.

They do have a service dept. It's way lacking, but they do have one....at least they did when I bought. Hell, they barely have enough property to stock their trailers.

I asked about service when I was shopping there and was told the had someone up the street do there repairs. He also added that they take awhile to get to them because of the volume and that if it's small stuff to try to fix it myself.
With my Attitude I had small fix's that were fixed at home.
Only real problem is getting water to the back holding tank.
I'll be bring it in this Sept.
