Does anybody know if there is any good trail riding around the Heber area? I have a LTZ400 and my wife has a 400EX. Neither are street legal. We just want to get in the high country where its cool and have some fun. Any other suggestions of fun trail riding in the high country would be great.
Thanks Alot

Between Heber and back towards Woods Canyon Lake there are lots of areas to ride north of the Highway 260. Since you say your quads are not street legal you are always taking a chance when riding in the National Forests as to when you need street plates or not. I found some good forest approved riding trails this weekend north of Forest Lakes.

East of Herber a ways, Forest Road #139 has some great take off roads but this also leads to the Rim Road that boarders the Reservation. This will go all the way to the Rim or all the way thru Pinedale and past. This same rim road can be caught behind Black Canyon lake also. Take 260 north out of Payson. There is a Forest Rd on the left...a couple hundered feet past Forest Lakes. Take that back in a vehicle a couple of miles and there were some nice hunting/ATV trails back there. Other than that-I have scouted that area many o' time-and have even spoken with Forest Service. That I know of...there isn't much up there in the way ATV/OHV opportunities.

Forest Service will send you to/tell you about the Long Draw OHV route. This is a waste of your time. It's basically a 20 mile dirt road that loops around Chevlon Canyon Lake....yawn....

You're better off heading to:

Camp Wood on Prescott National Forest
Pat Knoll/Saffel Canyon near Show Low
Cinders near Flagstaff

Hells Gate is off HWY 260. If you're familiar with the area it's the last road South at the end of Little Green Valley. Take that forest road in about 2 miles and you'll see the staging area on your right.

Do a search for Hells Gate. You'll see what's there.

How difficult is the Hell's Gate trail compared to like Martinez or the Coke Ovens? My topo's show a couple other jeep trails in the area as well. Looks interesting.
