Alright who's in?

I'll be there for sure.

Randy from Motoworks Suspension is making the big move up to race with the Pros. He's already talking trash (the good kind), which is allowed. I just think he's scared, but it'll all be clear on the 28th.

I'm sure he'll try, but he's a motocrosser. He'll probably go like hell for 15 minutes then burn out. We'll see him sitting at the truck "whens the next moto?".

Just kidding Randy. ;)(Note to self, don't talk trash about your sponsors before a race even if he is your comp.)

Remember everyone to get your entry's in early. You don't want to miss out on your 5 free points. It also helps the lady's out at reg. by not having to deal with a bunch of extra paperwork at the race.
here's a link to all the forms you may need. Print out what you need (probably just an bike/atv entry form) and send it in with at least $10.00. The $10.00 is non-refundable so if you don't make the race it's gone. You can pay the balance when you get there race weekend.

Question: I rode Alto Pit a couple of weekends ago and wonder: How do you racers run that course? Dusty as can be (normal AZ stuff) but that hump in the middle on the quad track makes the transition from a left hander to a right hander pretty rough. And if you stay in the inside tire track when cornering, forget about leaning it over into the turn as the trees snag your bars. Maybe I should get a quad to run that stuff?

Good luck to all the racers.

If it was easy everyone would do it. Just nut up and enter;). We don't run in the little end field bowl at all, that's for pits. We start there and kind of skirt around it during the race.

I just got back from a race in Nevada and only found out about the fire from the front page of the paper about a half hour ago. I know they evacuated but the people are back home now. I don't know if any structures were burnt. Amazingly it was stopped at 26 acres, which is miniscule for up there in the trees. We've been getting real lucky so far. If I hear more I'll definitely let you know.

Todd,

The results aren't up yet. It was a grand prix start so times have to be figured in for the finishing positions. The course was really fun(100 miles). It was run between 6,500 and 8,500 feet in the mountains outside of Austin, NV. There were about four or five water crossing(also, a man-made mud pit), some road(very, very little), a tiny mx section and lots of mountain two-track and single-track sections. You know, what a real grand prix is supposed to look like. Unfortunately, I ended up starting on the third row which meant I had at least 11 guys in front of me assuming I got the holeshot(which I didn't). I was about midpack on my line. The first two laps were the dustiest conditions I have ever seen in my life. It was a struggle just to keep from going over the side of the mountain. I was literally sitting on my seat in second gear. I couldn't race at all. The guy in front of the dust had a huge advantage. It really was unbelievable. With that said, I never got passed the whole day and eventually I began clipping off other experts. By the way, their experts(no pro class!) are equivalent to our pros except they don't win any money. MRANN was a class organization with super friendly people from Northern Nevada and Northern California. I had a great time and wish more of us would go to these things. The riding is great.

Travis Epperson

P.S. Any chance of you making the next MRAN event in Ely? It may be the only race we have for a while.

Fisk,

I know you'll be happy to learn not one structure was lost during the fire. We are really lucky to have so many firefighting resources up here. Damn, we seem to have amazing luck as well. That fire started late in the day when the conditions were calming down and there happened to be a lot of people available to fight it quickly. Between last years Indian fire and this fire we must be blessed to only lose a few structures. Anyway, glad to see your place is O.K.

Las Vegas? Nah! Too smoggy, too crowded, too nasty, too much crime and filth and normally too hot(IT IS 93 DEGREES AT MY HOUSE RIGHT NOW AND I LIVE IN THE FOREST SUUROUNDED BY PINE TREES!). It was 102 at the Prescott airport yesterday and supposed to be 105 today. We're definitely not used to this stuff. Somebody is trying hard to make riding not fun. If that's possible.

The word I got from my forest service buddies is that it would be more than twice as expensive to close the forest as it is to keep it open. Huh? A lot of people up here are going nuts because they won't shut it down. If these nasty temperatures keep up and the T-storms stay below the border I can't believe they won't do it shortly. The link below is a new order on the Kaibab and Coconino as of 8AM today. Basically, you can't use an internal combustion engine during the day and you must stay on "developed" roads.

Alto is a 6.8 mile course (if I remeber right). Its real tight for the most part, 1st and 2nd (for us riders below Travis' pace), with 1 fast 3rd and 4th secton for about a mile. It was a fun race, we did 4 or 5 laps, with lap times around 17-18 mins. for us mc 2's. It is real dusty right now. Let's all pray for rain.
On a side note I heard there's a forest fire by pinetop. Just heard on the news they evacuated the Casino and some homes. Anyone have an update? Do any of you think this will affect Snowflake?

I hear all classes at Alto Pit are running for 90 minutes. I would bet the quad race gets broken down to 2 seperate races again this year, like it did last year. I think it was Pros, ATV1, ATV2 in one race and then ATV3, ATV9 in another. If there is a substantial quad turn out, running all the quads together on a 6-8 mile loop (with very few areas to pass) will be a mess!

Snowflake- Our family has a cabin about 10 miles this side of Showlow. The In-laws were up there this weekend. I believe that fire was started by lightning. The area got a pretty good rain from a storm that hit there over the weekend. Keep up those rain dances!

I was telling my riding buddy John that every ride we do seems to be some sort of adventure and last weekend was no different. Headed for Alto Pit to try to figure out why everyone on this site has raved about it [?] Pulled Johns 3-bike trailer with my Jeep and all our camping gear for three people. Ratchet tie downs were everywhere holding down all our stuff. We found out that you can't overnight camp @ Alto Pit so we took all the stuff up to my property in Walker and dumped it behind a pine tree. At that point John, Ben and myself decided to heck with Alto Pit, we are way to close to Camp Wood and that would be a lot better riding. If you have not been there it is an isolated (the way we like it) riding spot. There was one family group other than us! :D Great riding until Johns bike puked on Road 9 and Ben tryed to pull him out with a strap for 7 miles. Ended up getting the Jeep and driving in to pick up the sick KTM which means we did not get back to Prescott unti about 5:00PM and we were starving. Sitting in the Subway parking lot and the wife calls and says the AC is broke at the house and it's a million degrees inside - so back to the "Valley of the Scum" we go. It's almost 9:00PM as we dropped John off at his house and the cell rings again - Work calling saying a fuel tanker is rolled over on I-10 near Eloy and I need to get there ASAP :( Got to the house and got the swamp cooler going to replace the AC [V] Drove to accident site and wore turn out gear all night while drilling 4 holes into the tanker to unload it [V] Watched the sun come up Sunday morning pulling into my driveway and was thinking - Who can I get to go riding with me next weekend :( Never made it to Alto Pit so it looks like I will take the green flag and see what happens.

I tried riding with you once recently. As I recall your cell phone rang that time also. "O.K. Dave drive like the wind. I have to get hope ASAP so I can load up and drive to Payson to work a tanker truck accident non stop for 2 months". Good thing the ride was already done. A note to whomever rides with Mark Fisk, Take your own vehicle. His cell phone rings alot, and it's usually some kind of emergency. You have one crazy life, to say the least partner. Ben tried calling me on friday. I assume it was about the ride, but I was already heading up to the White Mountians to escape the heat and do a little fishing with my dad and I couldn't get a good enough signal to talk to him. It was no escape from the heat at all though, it was friggin hot up there in that thin air. At least it cooled off at night, unlike the "Valley of the Scum" as you put it where it cools off to a crisp 95 at night.

I wanted to go up and ride Alto with you guys like I told you on the 4th, but I got to thinking about it and it's a tad close to race weekend and I didn't want anybody crying cheater at me so I passed. I remember enough of it last year to do alright. Don't worry about not knowing the course, after one lap you'll see that it's not that hard of a race. The speeds are low enough that you won't need any pre-running to be confortable.

Dry as a bone! Maybe a sprinkle here and there. Nothing to write home about. Mingus Mountain, which is right across the valley, has got over four inches in the last two days. It will only matter if it rains the night before anyway so all is not lost yet.

Ahhhh! Sleeping in your own bed is an unfair advantage[^]. With two trips to No. Nevada in the last two weeks and another to the Pearson's ranch in a couple weeks it really is nice staying home for a change.

By the way, last week we(Todd Davis #242, Tom Cooley #103 and myself) went to Ely for an MRAN race. Way too dusty again. I have good news to report though. Todd was second overall Ammie; Tom pulled the dead engine holeshot on the Ammie line before retiring from heat exhaustion on the second lap. Todd said the heat had him whooped as well but it was shorter to finish then to go back. As for myself, I'm embarrassed to say I was daydreaming the dead-engine start and got a mid-pack jump at the bomb. Couldn't see a thing but worked my way up to fourth overall expert(again no pro class in MRAN) before.............kind of embarrassed here...........I ran out of gas:(. Yep, the dumbest mistake in the book. I didn't put in a full tank at the pit and ruined my entire race just like that. I could see the finish line from where I stopped[:0]. The bummer was that I was riding and feeling my best at the end of that race. Oh well, I guess they still won't see me coming when we get to the Pearson's ranch in two weeks.

By the way, no rain again today. Town got a little but really isolated.

Snowflake Quads first Bikes second.
Wonder how that happened???
Anyway, Rain is GOOD!

I don't mind racing behind the quads for the most part. They have a way of making nice two track ruts for us to follow. They also splash all the mud, if there is any, off the track. It's racing behind the trucks and buggies that scares me. They really tear up a race course. Yah I know they aren't racing in Prescott, I mean in general. One reason why I don't understand why I can't start racing until sunday afternoon. The trucks/buggies should race sunday and the bike/quads saturday. I think it would be much safer that way. Back in 97-98 they announced that the truck/buggy races would be held on different weekends than the bike/quad races. That lasted about one or two races then we went back to the one weekend format. I could only imagine the extra cost of racing the same course two weekends in a row.

A funny story; Back in 1998 when I first started in the pro class we were racing the Canyon Gran Prix. We were all lined up on time, and waiting, waiting, waiting, (hour late, getting hot)when one of the guys we were with noticed Jay out off the starting area driving stakes into the ground. He was trying to get us a path set up for the dead engine start that lead us out off the track in a different way than he originally planned. He drove a stake into the ground and set and looked at it for a minute. Someone said "what the heck is he doing". Todd Davis (98 state champ) said "oh, he always does that. First he drives a stake into the ground and then sets there and stares at it until it doesn't cast a shadow anymore. Then he knows it time to start racing."

The best part of racing in Mexico is being done with the race saturday mid day and partying the rest of the weekend. The Truck/Buggy guys have been getting it that way for years in all the races. I think we should swap for a few races and see how it goes. Of course running saturday morning adds a little more difficulty in poker runs and registration. You pretty much have to take a day (friday) off to get it all in.

First of all I want to congratulate Fuller on his win today in the MC1's. I knew it was a matter of time before that happened. I also want to thank all the people giving me encouragement throughout the race. Dave and Ben, I especially remember you guys. I was really hurting and it got me to the end of a miserable day. I'm just bummed I had to go and throw it away with two more hard crashes during the race today. My crash during Saturdays practice really messed me up more than I thought it would. I can't believe how timid you can get when your feeling banged up. Any way, I gave it all I had today but he rode good and deserved to beat me.

I really wanted to watch the second race(pros) but I had to get home and lay down so I missed it. Could you guys let me know how it went?

I want to congratulate Todd Davis on his second MC2 victory in a row. Way to go Todd! Also, to Tom Cooley who finally beat Ramos and Crawford for the for the first time this season. Should make the Open points really tight down the wire. Good job Tom. I knew you could do it.

Thanks,
Travis Epperson

P.S. Thanks Whiplash for having the race in Prescott. The 10 minute drive home sucked as it was. I couldn't imagine how terrible it would have been if I had far to go. I'm going to go heal now and figure out how to beat that guy next time. See you guys later.

P.P.S. I heard some nasty things about Fuller after the race. If anybody talks to him let him know he will go a lot further using sugar rather than salt.

P.P.P.s. To the guy that pulled the orange fence from around my rear tire I owe you a deep debt of gratitude. As you could tell if it wasn't for you I would have been stuck there all day with that thing wrapped up in my rear tire. Who put that tree, that ripped me off my bike, there anyway?

Well Brian Brunning put up the fastest Pro lap time, but the Fuller in the expert class put up the fastest overall time. I finished second in the Open Pros behind Brian and Ben was fourth behind Kyle Beshaw. Travis (Trajisto) put up a faster lap than me with a third overall time by a few seconds and so did Tim Wussow (13 seconds faster than me) for a fourth overall. I drew the #1 starting pill and got the hole shot in the last race of the day (ROUGH) and led for 2.5 laps, I just wasn't fealing it though. I was riding pretty bad, not nearly as good as saturdays practice. By the time we got on the course sunday afternoon it was really tore up, the first two races did a number on the track and the times really showed it. My first lap was pretty hairball until I learned all the new obstacles that weren't there 24 hours prior. Brian cought me mid third lap and I was doing my best to hold him off when I cased a big g-out and my bars rotated all the way to my knees. I kept going and held off Brian for another mile or so then parked it in a tree. I just couldn't turn, Brian went by and I tried my best to stay with him, but he was flying as usual. I just had to get it in and straighten the bars out. I didn't lose any positions but I lost a minute or so in time.

Of course the expert race race (100-200-300-400-500) class riders had just a tad bit better course when they started than when I started but Randall rode AWESOME!! He deserves the O/A if everyone is willing to acknowledge. Travis also was impressive riding as good as he did with all his misfortunes. This is how it worked out as the numbers claimed. I concurr.

Overall positions
1. Randall Fuller (1st Expert)
2. Brian Brunning (1st Open pro)
3. Travis Epperson (2nd Expert)
4. Tim Wussow (1st Senior Pro)
5. David Gronlund (2nd Open Pro)
6. Ken Kozlik (2nd Senior Pro)
7. Kyle Beshaw (3rd Open Pro)

What a race. I had a great time even though I stalled it three corners into the race, and had the 600 passing me. Needless to say I had me work cut out for me! I was dead last, and now racing with the senior experts. I figured out just to go ride, and have fun. Well I stated picking off two sometimes three riders a lap, and next thing I knew I was having fun railing corners, passing people, and gaining time on third place. The start of the last lap I came around about 10 seconds behind Kyle Beashaw. Kevin (dbag), and my crew was going crazy to tell me to catch him, I tried to push hard, but was making mistakes. I finally caught him through the tight section were the quads did not run. As we popped back out on the road there was a lapper, and when Kyle tried to pass him he went down in the bushes. I glanced as I went by to see if he was ok, and kept pushing on. Now I had 16 seconds to make up because he started 1 row behind me. Well when I went to look at the standings Kyle beat me by 2 hundredths of a second.:( Bummer. I still had a great time, and can't wait till next year!

P.S. Sorry David, I was was too damn tired when I got home last night to go out, and have a cold one. Next time! Good job on another great finish. One of these days I will be up there running with you.:D

Travis, Congrats:D Randall rode the best I have ever seen, surprised he won. I was trying to give you a boost, and get you going to catch him.

I had an awesome race. This was my second race as an ATV Expert (ATV1), and I managed a 2nd place finish. I started 3rd in line and managed to pass the 2 guys in front of me in the 1st half of the first lap. Being on a thirsty big bore 2-stroke, I had to stop for gas on my fifth lap. When the guys were done fillin' it up and no one had passed me, I was really pumped. I have to admit I was glad when the lead Pro came around me during my 7th lap because I was happy to not have to do an 8th lap. I came across the line first in class, but the next guy to come across had started 11th, so he beat me on time.

I think the one thing that made this race turn out well (at least for the quads) was the total willingness of people to give you room to pass. Nobody that I came up on held me up in any way. This includes the guys in my own class and the slower traffic that I caught and passed. This shows great sportmanship and I want evryone to know that it is very appreciated.

GOOD POINT!!! I experienced the same thing, very cool. I wish some of the people would have just held their lines instead of trying to pull over, but hey they were trying to be courteous so I won't complain. You have a 50% chance of pulling over the correct side, and I had close calls or almost got tangled in about 50% of the people I passed. It's all good. Bike #910 was the only one that put me off the track. He did it to me and #138 also in practice on saturday. He'll learn.

I would also like to commend the Whiplash lady's for kicking @$$ on the results. I've never seen them posted that fast and the trophies handed out so quickly. ALSO VERY COOL. My race was from 1:00-2:30pm and I was on the road home at 4:30pm.

Was there any serious injuries?? I didn't hear of any. We had a radio on race frequency and we didn't hear anything other than minor stuff and only a few broke down riders.

I love Alto Pit, to bad the rain hit it real hard after we all left. Well I had a good race in the MC2's, started second to last, 8 rows. Fell in the 1st 3 miles and twisted my forks in the triple clamps and rode the rest of the race that way. Passed everyone in the 200's, but #235. Once it was all over the results showed me o/a the 200's by 5 secs. I had great fun though, and wish we had more races like Alto.
Hey Travis-nice to see someone put the hurten on ya, too bad you did it to yourself! Ha-Ha! Anyway we'll make up for it at the Pearson Ranch!

No snibbling but that was my throw away race (one per year) [V]
Dragging the brake in the first lap resulted in no brakes and my first encounter with 3 seperate pine trees. Starting the 450 was a real chore & got more tiring than riding it. Arm pumped BAD last two laps & ended up getting treatment from medical staff for heat exhaustion at the finish line [B)] (AGAIN)
Congrats to 624 Fistfull for a second place finish in his first 600 race. That was a big class with some really good riders! My aplogies to anyone I held up during my non-riding heat episode. Randall & Travis were really fun to watch - they were flying. Randall & his Dad are Class people so I'm not sure what the buzz was about in the pits [?] How about that drive home people [V] Took me 3.5 hours from Cordes Junction to Mesa & was heat cramping all the way.
Looking forward to Snowflake and a lot more speed for wind chill factor. Congrats to David # 7 & Allan # 3

Well it's still one of my favorite courses, but this time was more work than fun. I brought the new Yamaha YFZ450 quad out for its first race. It's completely stock aside from an open airbox and some rejetting. I've run it at Speedworld (practice day) the last to weekends and was REALLY impressed. The quad is awesome on a track- great jumper with smooth landings, rails the turns, unbelievable power for a stock motor...
A great trail machine it isn't, not with the stock suspension settings anyways. It's way to stiff for 2nd gear rutted rocky trails. I felt every rock and bump and really had a hard time holding on. I fought it all the way and was really missing the steering dampener on my 250R. A little work with the suspension settings and I'm sure the YFZ wouldn't have been such a handful. Lots of new products on the way for testing though! Not sure if it will be ready by Snowflake, so I may be back on the Honda for one more race.
Chad Prull was flying as usual..literally! The bottom of his tires were at about the level of my handle bars when he passed me. I'd have to sell my soul to ride that fast. Lots of fast ATV1 30+ guys out there that need to think about stepping up to Senior Pro next year...maybe next race? You know who you are. ;)

Fun but tough race! 13 riders in the 600 class & quite a few in the 700 class, good turn out! I started on ther front row next to Rick (FISTFULL) in the 600 class. Rick pull out front & I stayed on his tail for about 2 miles, then he pulled away. I slipped in a corner on the 2nd lap & was passed by 3 other 600's while I tried to refire. Down again on the 3rd lap & lost 2 more positions. I got by Jonh Middleton after he had some trouble on the 4th lap, then had to settle for a 7th place finish. Congrats to Rick on his 2nd place finish, but I thought he had the win in the bag. Great job Rick! Congrats to all racers:D
I also would like to give a 'BIG THANKS" to Ben of Ben's Cycle Works for pre-race tune-up on my bike!:) Your a great guy & I owe you one. I'll be hauling my bike over for some maintance, & I'll have a chest full of brew for you at Snow Flake[:p]

Nice job guys. Mark, sucks about the heat exhaustion. I've seen you worse though, but no much.

Jen...uh... I mean Ben (won't stand me up for drinks again), Those are some awesome pics. Looks like you were really having fun on that YZF250. The last picture of you railing that turn is the turn I said I blew and hit the tree. I noticed a bright yellow and orange bannner or something off to the side of the course and for a second it looked like fire. I glanced over at it and the next thing I know I'm headed right for the BIG pine just in the side of the picture. I hit it with my left shoulder and proceeded to crash BUT I bounced into the little tree in the foreground that actually stood me back up and saved my @$$. All I seen were people running out of the way. I think you're mom was one of them. Tell her I'm sorry. Just a momentary lack of concentration that just about ended it.

GOOD JOB BTW.

What a fun race, let's do it again :D
My first race as a 600 and on the front row, my stomach was not happy with that situation ;) but when the green flag dropped, I forgot all about that. After getting out in front of Phil, I concentrated on settling down and riding under my head. After a couple of miles another rider came up behind me, thinking it was one of the 600 class riders, I was not to receptive to his wanting to get by me. Up on the powerline section though, I came into the extreme-offcamber right hander way to hot. At this point I have to apologize to the rider that was in front of me, I couldn't hold my line on the offcamber and I knocked him down, I am sorry I didn't mean to run into you [B)]. As I was getting untangled from the mess, the rider behind me went by, it was Ben Hutchinson making up ground. I took off again, riding as fast and as careful as I could, after about a lap and a half another rider caught up to me, I think it was #604, he went by like I was standing still and I never saw him again. The rest of the race was ride and pay attention, #630 crept up on me a couple of times but his presence would just fire me up again, I knew he had started one row back so I had to stay at least 16 seconds ahead of him. I didn't know what lap I was on, I didn't get a white flag, Brian Brunning went by me about a mile from the finish. I didn't want to get lapped but then again I was damm glad to see the checkered when I got to the finish line at the top of the hill. :D.

Want to thank Ben of Ben's Cycle Works, he layed his hands upon my machine and WOW what a difference from stock, the grunt he bestowed into that little 400 is amazing.;)

Yep, that's the one. I was scoping it out as you were moving forward to the starting line. That's one sweet looking AND sounding quad. You loked pretty smooth on it when I saw you come through the pits. It looks like it is a tad lighter than most of the other quads???

Amen to that. He brought out even MORE power out of my 450 also. It now likes to try and pull my arms out of the sockets. What a ride.
I dragged raced T.J. the other day on his WR426 (that Ben also built) and I pretty much smoked him all the way through the power band. I even let off, let him catch back up and took off again and left him. T.J. is a lot better rider than me so I know it was all bike.
Jeff, you may want to give Ben a call when you're ready for your first top end. He can really make that thing run good.

ElGato- It weighs 350 lbs dry, that's pretty light for an ATV. It's real easy to kick around and is well balanced in the air. I could lose another 20 lbs on it by doing away with the battery and electric start for a GYTR kick starter mod, but I really like the magic button!
I will definitely call Ben when I'm ready for a rebuild. This motor is way more complicated than my 2-smoke. I hear there is also a one tooth adjustment that can be made to the exhaust cam, so might ask him about that. I should have a pipe for it this weekend (the stock pipe is kinda restrictive). Still, the power is incredible for a stock quad. I bet it's as fast as my ported 310R.

Jeff, I wouldn't remove the starter. That is the best thing about my bike. I stalled a couple times during the race and just hit the button and took off without even putting my feet down. No energy exerted at all.
The one tooth adjustment on the cam will give you more top end but less bottom end. It's kind of like a mod that everyone wants to do but doesn't know why. Thumper Talk is all about that B.S.. It just shifts the power range around a bit, if it's the same thing as the bikes that is. I choose to leave mine alone and do some porting for more top end. That way I have the best of both worlds. T.J. did his cam and didn't like it so he went back to stock. Ben also set Fistfull's back to stock, and he says he likes it better also. Stock cam position and porting is the best way to go in my opinion. A pipe will also bring her alive on top. The stockers are very restrictive as you mentioned.

Hello All,
it seems like the only time I write on this board is when I'm being acused of something. Well once again I have been acused of cutting the course and cheating. And because of the fact that Jay McKinley knows "you cut miles of the course at cinders and I know you were cutting the course here" I have benn banned from anymore whiplash events.
This in itself does not bother me since I only attend one or two events a year, but as I've indicated before, I do not like to be called a cheater. I have always raced fair and I'm proud to say that. I've been racing now for more thean fifteen years and never have I encountered acusations such as this.
So, I'll tell my side of the story here and let you decide. And since I am not afraid to name names, lets bring it all out.
Since I was not there when this talk happened, I want you to know this is second hand. Apparently before the race #14 Kyle Beshaw was telling people that he was out to get me because I took him out last year. Let me clear this up, Kyle went of the course in front of me, pushed his bike back on the trail and I had no where to go but clip him alittle. I never intentionally hit him, but I will next time. During the race this year I passed Kyle about 2 miles into the race, he pulled over for me, which I thought was nice, and I continued on. A few hundred yards up I blew a corner and I admit, rode through the forest a bit to regain the trail. I continued on battled with David G. for a couple of laps and finished. I left to take a shower, little did I know that Sabrina and the scoring people would do such a great job, and when I got back the awards were over. Jay came over to me and told me this, "I'll give you first place and your money but I don't ever want to see you here again. I know you cut miles of the course in flaggstaf and I know you cut the course here. None of the whiplash pros have any respect for you and neither do I." Well, to be honest with you at first I thought he was joking, and then I was shocked. So after a few choice words were exchanged between us, I took my $245 and left. I come to find out later that Kyle Beshaw had come up to Jay and told him that I had been cutting the course.
Now I don't know who was speading those rumors at cinders and if anybody else was saying this crap this weekend, I but consider it chicken sh**. If Kyle of anybody else is upset that they are not really as fast as they think they are, shut up and ride. Get better, don't talk crap and spread rumors.
If what I did in front of Kyle is cheating, then I'm man enough to accept being docked time or disqualified. Of course I'll be upset but that is racing. It strikes me as odd that although I was "cheating" I was still awarded first place and the money. Hmmmmm, that sure smacks of something else.
Anyway, thanks for listening to my ranting, I guess I'll have to take my bike and go somewhere else and play. Travis, I'll see you up at the MRAN race this next weekend.
And David, great race with you, bars rotated back huh...I'll have to remember that excuse next time I need one! haha You now, if your bars hadn't of had those problems and I had cheated a little bit better, we never would have been beaten by that kid. It's hell getting old, huh.

Well Bryan I was hoping this wasn't going to come out. I respect your decision to talk about though. I wish we could've kept names out, but oh well no going back now. It really sucks and I think it's bogus what Jay did to you. I agree with you that about a 2 minute penalty would've been just perfect.;) It would've been worth about $140 for me. This goes back further than Cinders as I understand though. I was as shocked as you were when they pulled me in the trailer to tell me what was happening. They asked me if I thought you were cutting and I told them HELL NO. You were behind me for a while and when you passed I saw you in front of me for a while. You were on the course everytime I glanced up. You were riding good and I know you don't need to cheat to beat ME. Hell you went by me pretty darn fast.

Jay was wrong when he told you that ALL Whiplash pros don't have respect for you. Guys like You, Destry, and Ken Kozlik really bring excitement back to AZ desert racing. I was really looking forward to racing against you some more and possibly trying to beat you some day. I guess I'll have to drive to Nevada to do it.

Oh well, whats done is done. Keep rocking in the nationals and OTHER places. Make Az look good.

OH NO, NOT AGAIN! I'm just trying, like last time, to figure out where in the world you could cut the course without: 1. it being slower; 2. ramming into a tree; 3. somebody clearly seeing you(right after the start through the sandpit and into the adjadcent sandpits first left turn-keep going straight and it would have cut off about five minutes, not yards). Wow Bryan, you are way more ingenious than I ever will be. Maybe Fuller showed you the line! All joking aside, it really sucks that we have to be talking about this, AGAIN. I don't understand how Whiplash can ban somebody but at the same time pay them their money. Something does not jive. If there is proof, present it. If not, shut your piehole and race. Better yet, practice! This is really not cool because I was hoping to race against you sometimes next year in the old pro class, Bryan. Maybe I would have got lucky and beat you one time. Oh well, I guess I'll never know. That sucks! I for one will be calling Whiplash and letting my feelings be known. It may not mean much but it seems worth it to me.

The MRAN race on the Pearson's ranch is supposed to be a blast. It is going to be run on David Pearsons' ISDE grass track, newly built MX track, and through creeks and trees in the mountains by their ranch. It's at 7,000' so it should be primo with all the rain. Hopefully I'll be all healed up by then. By the way, it poured up here again today. If anyone is coming up for the weekend it should be awesome.

Thanks for sticking up for me David, I apprciate it. Docked 2 minutes for what??? Now you're making me mad!!! Just joking. As far as bringing names out, well I don't like to talk behind peoples back and I don't like it to be done to me. If I feel like saying something I'll tell the person and we can work it out and I expect to be treated the same.
Now as far as what I said above, like I said it was all secong hand to me, and if I am wrong about Beshaw I will apologize here and to him. But if I am not, well I expect an apology from him. What is done is done and I like to think that I don't hold grudges. Like I said, I don't mind too much not racing whiplash, but I do mind being called a cheater.
No as far as Destry, I or Ken bringing excitement to the races. Well thank you for the compliment. But I don't feel it is us that just brings the excitement, it is all the Pros racing together, it is the new guys coming up like Fuller and Epperson. It is guys like you improving over the last couple of months. Actually, thinking about it I think the real excitment is in the beginner, novice and senior classes and the battles and stories they have. My best memories of racing were when I wasn't racing for money and didn't have to deal with the baggage of egos. Oh well, I still love it though!
As far as Desty and Ken, well you are right to watch Destry ride is incredible, Ken...well Ken is an grinchy man with some awfully foul gas...I think he rides so fast to get away from the stench sometimes.

Once again David, Thanks.

I'm sure he is glad to get rid of me as I have never hid my feelings about how he runs his organization. Racing is supposed to be fun.
As far as the MRAN race is concered, I just talked to Russ Pearson today and it sounds like a very cool race. It is a short track, about 3 miles and he said you will never get out of third gear. It will be run similar to a WORCS race in that there will be multiple races throughout the day. Each race is about and hour long. Very fun! Bryan,

It's O.K., I make my voice of displeasure heard all the time. No big deal and I don't take my racing too serious anyway. I just want to have fun and a day of racing is always more fun than a day of working. Maybe people who don't have jobs yet haven't met this realization;). Anyway, I had another thought. Uh oh! While we were in Nevada last week I heard there were many, many, many Whiplash riders at Alto Pit within the seven days leading up to the race. Is this a no, no or what? Maybe Whiplash's efforts are being directed in the wrong area. I feel an investigation is in order, dammit!

Your Welcome,

The MRAN race at Pearsons ranch sounds like a blast. I wish I could make it, but I had to take a day off work yesterday to work on the brakes on my truck. $300 in parts, OUCH! I drive my truck in traffic like I ride my bike on the race course, again OUCH!

Have fun and show those Nevada boys some Az whoop @$$

Travis, I hear you about Whiplashers riding the race course prior to a race. I got invited to go two weeks ago but didn't think it was right. It ended up the people that were going up never made it anyways. Whiplash rules state that you can not ride in an area where a race is to be held TWO weeks prior to race time. Alto is a OHV park so I don't know if that still counts. I would assume that you can ride there any time you want, but to be fair to fellow racers is another thing.

Bryan, I'm thinking 2 minutes is all I need to get me the win:D. I never said if it was right or not or if you deserve it, but it benefits me[:p]. Isn't that the way it works anyways???;)I was just being a smart @$$. I don't think you deserve any penalty. Of course I'm not in the points race either.

BTW, I've received a lot of comments the last few days on the subject of YOU getting a lot faster in the last few months. New bike, new engine, new suspension, new Rick [8D]. Just think all that time your talent was being held back by your bike.

Where in the he** could you cut the course? I know some of the other trails that wye off the race course cut some areas, but it would have been several minutes, and would have been very clear that you had cut. Very intresting. Bryan maybe someday they will race again, and whoop up on us.:D Give it time you never know.

Mr. Bruning
I would like to make a few comments based on your recent posts. First, These are my comments, I am not speaking for Kyle. You admit to going off the course "A few hundred yards up I blew a corner and I admit, rode through the forest a bit to regain the trail." if Kyle said anything he was stating a fact. Kyle does believe that last year you took him out intentionally, if you did or ddn't only you know.
Your statement " I never intentionally hit him, but I will next time." I take as a personal and public threat. You need to be careful what you say and do. As far as cheating, I know that you are fast enough to win without cheating, but after the Cinder's race, I personnally had racers (I will not divulge their names)come to me with the comments that you and others were cutting the course or not on the same course they were. As to Jay banning you from Whiplash races, that is a subject you should be discussing with Jay.

Larry, Welcome to Ra. I wish it could be under different circumstances, but welcome just the same. Feel free to post away, this is a pretty cool site. I'm sure Bryan was just blowing off some steam when he said he would take out Kyle next time. I would like to think as PROFESSIONALS nobody would ever stoop that low. Desert racing is dangerous enough. I've had a few mis-guided roosts come my way from time to time, it's scary to say the least. As far as Cinders there were a lot of people saying a lot of things. Who's right, and who's exagerating, who knows? AND WHO CARES? No way to go back and change history.

See you at the races.

I do believe the RAcers Edge is getting more traffic than the rest of the site. We may have to start charging entry fees;):D[8D].

I knew before long RA would become the place to find out anything you wanted (or didn't want) to know about AZ desert racing. We've got a good bunch of racers here.

You never know, we may even have to strike up a RA softball game with the RAcers vs the non-RAcers. Hey Ben can you pitch?

Oh how the soap opra begins. And I feel it is time to end it here as I see the topics are changing. Larry or Kyle, if you have any issues with me please feel free to get my number from Jay and give me a call. Don't take this in any way as a threat of any kind, I'm not a 18 year old kid and I don't want this kind of headache. From the talk I've been hearing for some time I feel (maybe wrongly) that you have something against me. I'd rather talk it out get it over with and move on.
Now as far as me threatening to take Kyle out...you are absolutely right...I should not have said that. I do not ride that way, in fact I feel confident that if you ask any whiplash racer if I have ever purposely taken them out you would get a resounding no. (Except for Dayton, I did hit him kind of hard one time, but Dayton and I have always rode hard together). Let me assure you I am not threatening anyone.
What I said were words (wrong I realize) but words not intending to hurt anyone. However, what was said to Jay was intended to hurt me. I'd like to believe it was not intended to get me banned from whiplash racing, but that is what happened.
We obviously have a difference in opinion as to what cutting is. I did not short cut the course to gain an advantage or pass anyone, I was already by your son. I blew a corner, that is it. That happens in racing as I'm sure you know. I am not going to turn around and come back towards the race course putting others in jeprody, I'm gonna go forward and join the course as soon as I can.
It is nice that you bring up the Cinders race, as I started behind Kyle I had the opportunity to follow him for a short while. I personally witnessed him cutting inside a few corners of the marked trail by about 10 feet of so. With your strict interpretation of what is cutting the course, I believe this would qualify. I seem to be reminded of the saying, "the pot calling the kettle black."
ahhhhh...this is getting boring now...I guess the point is I'm not a cheater(and I really do resent being called that), I'm not out to get anyone(althought from what I hear you son was before the race in Prescott), I'm not gonna tack anyone out in the future(I am man enough to say sorry for that, and because of your sons words you do not have to worry about me being at whiplash events in the future.
I am through talking about this...althouth it is easy to say what is done is done when you are not the one who is on the recieving end of malicious talk (David no malice towards you at all I do look forward to racing with you again sometime)
Larry, Kyle or whoever else please feel free to call me or private message me of talk to me next time you see me with anymore comments reguarding this issue. I'm sure we can work this out.
Now lets get on with the informative, fun messagesand stories that this board is about. I promise next time I write will be about something upbeat.

Mike Parks took this direct quote from RA and inserted into the story about the race in the Southwest Offroad News. Very Cool, RA is making an impact on the Az desert racing.

He forgot to mention the hole shot I got on the first row AGAINST HIM[B)], JK Mike. You do a pretty good job, keep it up.

Did anybody read Jay's article on the first page???? He talked about the ideas for next years series. He also bashed Bryan a little more too. Although he didn't mention names, everybody knows who it was.[V][}:)]

I read the article I thought the course cuttting was a little extreme. I liked the idea of some races of 250 miles or more. I think it would be good to have a series of long desert races. What do you think?

I liked those long team desert races Arizona used to have. Do you remember the first year Whiplash landed the Parker-400? It was a true 400 mile team race. Matt Murphy iron manned it for the win. I think it took over 5 hours. That's a brutal course to say the least.
Todd and Scott Davis finished 2nd O/A and they were beat up after that one. Me and Dayton DNF'd with bike problems on the first lap. We loaded up went back to the hotel took a shower and ate lunch. We swung by the course on the way home to check out the finish results and the dang race was still going on!! THAT'S desert racing folks, not these 60-80 mile 1-2 hour courses. We need races that seperate the men from the boys like the Parker 400 did.

THEY DID WHAT to the goat trail?!?! That is just un-American right there. That was the best part of the race. In 99 I did that race when they knocked it down to 200 miles and made it a solo ride. I got the hole shot on my KX500 and led all the way to the goat trail then Matt Murphy caught me on his KTM200 and skipped pass me like a friggin mountain goat in that pile of manure rock section. I'd gain a little in the WFO sections, and he'd put a ton of time on me in the rocks. What a blast that course was, until Mark-O died there in 2000 then it just sucks to even think about it.

Ben, you really missed out not getting to do any Az team races. Mexico was the best, 200 miles of silt whoops. It doesn't get any better than that.

They graded the goat trail. You remember how rocky it was? Yep it took all of those rocks, and dug them into the ground, with huge hole everywhere. Along with rolling rocks, and pot holes it was very hard to ride a straight line.

I remember reading about the team race stuff in the SON, a few years ago. Those were the years that I raced just the cinder mountain race only.

They actually filmed the 99 Parker-200 and played it on Speed Vision. I finished third O/A behind Matt Murphy and Kirk Stevenson. I have a tape the of it. I was so stoked to watch my hole shot, but they didn't show the first row take off just row 2 thru the rest, it was a bummer. It was pretty cool watching myself on TV though. The last team race I did was in '92 the Parker 400 with two buddies of mine Josh Giles and Bryan Dobmier. I got to ride the section from Midway thru Bouse and back to Midway. Just before the pits at Grham Well I had a good crash. I made it back to midway and we finished the race. I went to the Dr. the next day and I had broken my Tiba in my left leg. Out of work for 6 weeks ended my racing career for a while. That was one of the funnest race I have ever done! We ended up 5th Open Pro.

I'm all for 200+ mile desert races. I've run the Rock to Rock 200, Baja250, Baja1000 and the BajaMex 300 on a team. I've also pitted a few Best In The Desert events. There was actually footage of me on SpeedVision at the 97 VtoR race- duct tapaing maglites to Bill Williford's helmet after our pit truck with the lights was unable to make it to the pit. The lights fell off after about 5 miles. There's something much more special about winning a race when you do it with a few friends.
I just think we need to come up with a few ideas to keep the series from alienating the racers in the beginner and first time racer classes. Some of these guys are going to have a hard time finding a race partner, especially those that are new to racing. Any thoughts?
