Newby - curious about Four Peaks - - I understand there are supposed to be some good rides from the staging area off Hwy 87. Am new to AZ riding (last was 18 yrs ago in the mid-west) but now have two new young adult riders with interest. Live in Tempe so Four Peaks seems reasonably close and a way to get out of the heat.
Question is are there some easy, i.e. beginner, rides availabe? Good for me (to break back into riding) and for the new riders (just to stay up). Trail markings? How to find from the Hwy 87 staging area?
Thx - Terry

Yes Terry,
The Four Peaks/Rolls area would be a very good place to re-learn your riding skills. Just take the Fours Peaks exit east off of highway 87 and stage by the restrooms, (about a third of a mile from 87). Head south into the Rolls for some nice trails and sandy washes. Make sure you take PLENTY of water this time of year.

Is being asymmetrical really so bad?

Jerry is correct, there are a lot of riding opportunities in the Four Peaks area.

Four Peaks, Rolls, Upper Sycamore are some of my favorite places to ride. Everything from quad capable sandwashes to the WTF was I thinking? singletrack and everything in between.

Thx to all for replies. Sounds like my boys and I will be checking out the Four Peaks area on Sat/Sun. Are the trails pretty plainly marked? How about camping? Too hot / busy / etc?
Big_Kaw_Huna mentioned Sycamore Creek. I'm not familiar with it at all. Directions anyone? Suggestions on whether to try Sycamore or Four Peaks first for some introductory trail riding?
FYI - am a 2 wheeler - will be testing out a new-to-me Honda XL250 and a new-to-me Honda XL350.
Thx again,
Terry
Terry,
Here is a map of the trails in the Rolls area. They are all plainly marked.

take a look at the trail guide section for listings on where some of these places are and how to get there. also, do a search and you should get some good hits back.

Have quads, will travel.

Let me try to make the directions a bit easier.
Take Hwy 87 (aka Country Club, Beeline Hwy.) North. Just before the highway starts into the mountains, you'll see a sign for Four Peaks Road. Turn right for the corral with the rest rooms (Rolls parking lot), The Rolls and Four Peaks. Turn left for Upper Sycamore Creek.
In addition to The Rolls area, you can ride (or drive) up the mountain to 5000-6000 feet by continuing up Four Peaks Road. It's about a 15 mile ride one way and very easy.

Not all of the trails are flat. The Rolls (Four Peaks) offers some excellent and challenging riding for every skill level.
Here are some photos of the Four Peaks area from a few different rides out in that area..

raptor20le, Just wondering which road you were on when you took those pictures. They are awesome and I am looking for a trail just like that for beginners to practice on. Thank you!
