I have a stupid question about axle flipping, what is it and how do you know if it has been done? And once I find that out how do you go about doing it? Thanks for the help [8]

A lot of trailers come with the axles mounted on top of the leaf springs. "Flipping" is just moving the axles under the spring packs. This provides a lift usually between 3 and 6 inches.

Forgot to mention, you can't just unbolt the axles and move them under the spring. The axles are cambered and will require that new spring perches be welded to the axles.

Good Question! I raised mine to make it level with my tow vehicle. I know you can have a custom drop hitch fabricated BUT... You will bottom out on every gas station entrance, woopdee, and so on. My trailer had a tortion suspension with no leaf springs, so they actually added a 4 in box channel to the frame and re-attatched the tortion axle for only 275.00 bucks! when they quoted the price I couldn't resist.

I to had mine flipped and the cost was very reasonable about 200 hundred bucks. My Warrior sat really low and I was always afraid of ripping out the plumbing on something. Flipping the axles raised it about 4 inches. This will also allow for taller tires in the E load range if you want to upgrade.

I flipped the axles on my 5th wheel so it would clear the bed on my lifted truck. The 5th wheel already sat at a decent height,so raising it made the rear ramp kind of steap and the fold out step was kind of high.
I got a different truck now so I flipped the axles back to stock.

Where did you get it done at?

thanks for all the info, and I too would like to know where to get this done, and for how much [8]

Cliff's Welding in east Mesa does about 99% of all axle flips on the east side. I don't know who to go to on the west side.

I've never had to look into it but I've heard around $200 - $250 for a tandem axle.

I had my trailer's done at B&M Bumpers and Hitches on Grand Avenue. They do a lot of them and I think it was about $200 a couple of years ago.

I agree with Steve.

Then you have to get longer steps :D

Cliff's Welding did mine and it was a fair price around 200 bucks. They did a great job and I also had them weld up another spare tire carrier ate the same time and they did that for 20 bucks or so since they where under there anyway.

Very pleased with the job and like the lift -- Don't have to worry about the pipes and stuff anymore.

does this effect towing and does the ramp have too much of a angle ,what about the truck insurance could they void the insurance because of "modfications"?

Actually tows better and the tires do not heat up as much. The ramp angle is not bad, I can still push the toys in easily if needed. The axle flipping is an option from most suppliers and according to my agent is not considered a lift. Lifting may cause other issues that may effect warrenties and insurance.

Hey Arizona Griz, would you recommend me to get the axle flipped on my 28' Toy Hauler? And also I heard of someone putting on a second sway bar. I don't get much sway now but if I lifted it would you suggest a second sway bar? Also would you suggest me getting some mud flapps for the Excursion, for the Toy Haulers protection?

Will.

I flipped my axles cuz if I didn't I would have eventually ripped the waste plumbing off my trailer. (all you WW Super Lite owners know what I mean)

If you don't have a clearance problem, it's not necessary and I would leave it alone.

As far as the extra sway bar, it would make sense that the bigger and/or heavier the trailer, the more sway protection would be practical.

Will just call me. Guys, Will is my son-in-law. [8D] Glen is right, but most receiver hitches have only one small ball for the sway bar. [:0]
