From Mitch Canepa's other thread about the same race that I deleted so there wouldn't be a dual topic about the same race.

Details are coming very soon [:o)] I will have "Searchlight Flyers" @ Alto Pit Race. Visit us in Ben's Cycle Works Pits. Also Flyers will be posted in every dirtbike shop that will allow me to put them up [8D] Let me tell U all about Mitch as a Race Promoter. He WORKS HARD every year to put on a fun and safe race. This is a family oriented race environment and the track is marked by racers for racers. This is not Vegas to Reno fast but has something for every body including some really fast sections. Mitch will change the track layout every year and each year has gotten bigger and better. I have tryed since 1998 to get some AZ riders to race the Searchlight Gran Prix & am excited to see some interest :DLots of RV Parking. Small Motel & Casino in Searchlight. If you want to stay in Laughlin on the river it is only 30 minutes more to Searchlight.
Love to see a BIG AZ turnout for this event. (It's about 3 1/2 hr drive to Laughlin from metro PHX)

Is MRAN a motorcycle only organization, or will this race have quad entries also? I looked on their website, and I only saw class designations for motorcycles.

Hi guys. Sounds like there has been some pretty good racing going on down in your part of the woods. Thanks for taking the time to reply to these posts. Ive been busy getting sponsors line up for our race in October. Each year we try and out do our selves. In the past we have raffled off two brand new bikes and gave away tons of free stuff. This year we plan to raffle off a brand new Honda XR50!I am also trying to get it tricked out with all kinds of after market stuff. If anybody knows where I can get a killer deal let me know. We always go out of our way to help out the little guys. They are the future of our sport. Last year we gave away over $2000.00 in door prizes to the mini riders alone. How cool is that!!
Dont forget about the adult 50cc and Golf cart races!
As a Quad racer my self I thought it only be fair to include the quad guys and gals. MRAN is for bikes only and we have decide not to be involved with that organization due to too much politics. Hey we just wanna have fun!! You might be able to log onto GO-Desert.com and check out some photos from a couple of years ago when we raced thru an old Miners shack that I had built. That was fun. Back in the 70's the original Searchlight GP did in fact race thru an old house. They went in the back door thru another door inside then out the front door and into a big water hole filled up by elderly lady that owned the house.
Any ways keep it on two/4wheels and ride safe...
PS. Hey Racersfisk I think we have found a replacment crash test dummie for the double jump so your services wont be needed in that dept. HA HA...Are you having flashbacks yet?? Take care........

The wife & I went to Laughlin this past weekend. Just for the heck of it, I wanted to drive over to Serchlight for a mileage check & see the area. From I-17 & Bell rd., It's 210 miles to Laughlin, then 37 miles to the center of town. 247 total miles & 4.5 hour drive. The area / terrian looks kinda like Wickinburg. High desert at aprox 3700 feet. I hope to do this race, but may need someone to haul my bike out. The wife & I will drive the car & stay in Laughlin at the casnio.

This will prove to be one of the most FUN events you will attend all year [:I]. QUAD RACERS - This is a FIRST time opportunity to race in Searchlight. MRAN does not allow Quads. Yah, PIT!!!

Just kidding Bunk. It would cool if you and Teri could make it up there if nothing more than to just gamble at Laughlin. I haven't ridden with you guys since the Klondyke adventure.

Just remember the overall winning quad in the Baja-1000 last year was a Honda utility quad, a Rubicon I believe.

You must mean the rumors that they raced on the super secret Team Honda race course which isn't the same race course that the rest of us race on. That would be cheating[:0], it's a Baja thing.

Only 12 days to go & the course is looking good :D Put this one on your schedule for sure. QUAD Racers come on down (or up) Mitch has designed a course that everyone will have fun on FAST or SLOW ;)
We have added a few surprises [8D] Spend the weekend in Laughlin or at the track with us "It's All Good"
Remember the XR-50 raffle tickets are only $5.00 each / Come race or watch - this course is spectator friendly with racers going through the infield area up to three times EACH lap. Mitch explained the course as "Pearsons on Steroids" but if U were not in NV for that race I think this course is like "Heiroglyphic with a little Vulture on Steroids" [^] U will like it!
NON Racers - Here is your chance RA members to come watch the RA boys in action & have a fun weekend too! (you can even race your golf-cart)

We will try and stay consistant with MRAN and NDRA. Since they will most likely be the majority of the riders. If we have two numbers in the class the same we will add another number to your existing number. Example if two riders show up with the #12 the first rider to sign up keeps his or her number. The second rider would then get a #1 or #2 added to his number making him #112 or #122?? Bingo Graphics will be set up inside in one of the tents and will have back grounds and numbers for sale at a reasonable price. Hope this helps.

Well guys how did it go?

Them Nevada boys put a whooping on me in the Pro race. I got 4th out of five (TJ DNFed). I rode as hard as I could, but they had that course dialed in. Todd kept me behind him for a lap until all the good air went to the top of his rear tire, and he pulled over to let me by. Raper rode pretty good and stayed with them for a while, but ended up with third in the Pro race and also third in the team race with Alan Violet. Alan rode good in the team race. I got close to him a couple times, but I just couldn't make anything happen in the dust. I think they got third. TJ got an awesome start in the team race for us, but I got passed a couple of times and we dropped back to 4th. Ben (Teamed with Dbag) stalled the bike on the start of the team race. With all the dust, they didn't have a prayer of catching back up to the front, but managed an 8th I think.

Ben had an awesome ride going in the 4-stroke open race, but he saw a lonely cacti off the side of the course that looked like it needed a hug. It wasn't a pretty sight. He got a second place start and was running top 4 or 5 out of about 30 riders until he found love with the cholla. Dbag went over the bars and had to take a few minutes to find his breath.
The 50cc Adult Pro Team race was the funnest of all. I teamed with Dayton, TJ teamed with a friend from Vegas, and Alan teamed with a guy nobody knows. It was a blast, but it turned into a free for all so it ended up not being scored. I'll scan some pics and post later.

Rick Guffey (Fistfull) was also running up front in his class but I couldn't tell for sure what riders were actually in his class. That big nasty lump on his shoulder that he aquired from the SF mishap was reaching up and punching him in the jaw when he went by on the first lap, painfull. I didn't see his results, but he looked good.

Well for those of you who did not go to this race you missed out! Kevin (Dbag) and myself head out Saturday morning to get to Searchlight just in time for the adult 50 race. For those that have not seen these races before it is a good laugh! Between everyone cutting the course, and Dayton Raper crashing his brains out on the finish line jump the crowd had a blast.
Sunday morning came WAY to early, especially since we had a few beers with the fellow R/Aers that were there to celebrate Kevins 30th birthday.:D. I enterd three races for the day, the unclassified which was really a prerun, but was glad to get a quick peek at the course before the 12:00 4-stroke race. I entered the expert class, while Dbag entered the AMATURE class.
I got to start on the front row in the 4-stroke class. I got a great start as David noted:D. I was feeling good, and catching 4th in the back section through the sand wash when I ducked to miss a tree limb sticking out. Well I went way to the inside where of course the limb was the lowest part, and scraped the limb enough to knock me off balance, and head first in to a cholla. I felt like I had a neck brace on that still had the needles stuck in it from the manufacture. Dbag rode about 5 minutes later to see me in pain, and know he is laughing (just wait sucker!). After about 30 minutes I got most of the thorns out, and continued on. I finished that lap, and one more.
Kevin, and I next did the team race, and I suckered him into doing the Pro race. I got to start, unfortunately. I pulled another mental mistake, and stalled it. Dumb A$$! Well we had our work cut for us thanks to me. I started riding like a mad man, and I was on a mission. We both rode very well, and might have in the running if I didn't screw up, but that racing. Next year! Out of 20+ bikes we made our way back up to 8th, and closing on 6th, and 7th, but we ran out of time.
All in all it was a great weekend, and would love to go back again. Thanks to Dbag for going up there, and teaming up with me.

This race course was very unique and a lot of fun! Thanks to Mitch and everyone else for allowing the quads to run this year. I will be back next year.
I managed to salvage a 4th place, after pulling the holeshot in the main quad race. I didn't count, but I think their were atleast 10-12 of us in the expert class (no pro class for quads). I'm pretty happy with that, considering the quad is still completely stock other than razr2 tires up front. I wish that GPR stabilizer would get here soon. It really would have helped a lot in those desert sections.
Shiloh Strunk and I teamed up for the Team Quad Race on my YFZ450. I think we ended up sixth, but this race was actually more fun than the main. I got the hoeshot again. Josh Edwards and I were battling through the MX section off the start. On the last turn before heading out into the desert, I took the inside line and wasn't very well prepared for the jump that proceeded it. Josh took the outside and hit the jump pinned. His left rear tire crossed over my right shoulder as he jumped over the top of me. That was quite the sight! The guys who raced 2 quads seemed to have the advantage since there was no time lost switching riders. It was a lot of fun though!
I heard (after we left the race Sunday) that we were supposed to fill out an envelope so race results could be mailed to us. I didn't know about this until it was to late. Anyone know how I can get results?

Thanks to all you Arizona racers for showing up. Always good to meet new people. I know I will probably forget the names with the faces.
We were alittle rough around the edges in the orgnization dept. Had to work a few bugs out. Sorrt to Quads guys for the little mix up with the white flagg on the first race. Not going to make any excuses. We screwed up! Hope we made up for it with the Team Races. I will send the results out just as soon as we get them done. The adult 50cc race was a blast. We will be kicking down $20.00 to each team!! Red Bull energy drink put up $200 for that event. We should probably charge you an extra $20 for all the course markings you wiped out. It took you guys 20 seconds distroy what took me two weeks to set up. Between you guys and the Golf cart races that was too much. Not ganna have any jumps for the golf carts next year.Hope to see you guys back again next year. See ya when we see ya.....

:D Arizona Riders that drove up to Nevada, THANK YOU [:p]
There would not have been a PRO RACE without David, Todd, Dayton. You three put on a great show. I know all of you paid the price for racing in the XR-50 race [B)]
QUADS - Thanks for coming & we hope you had a great time. I thought the race announcer was really good & added a lot of flavor to the event. the course was a TOUGH 10 miles. Did U guys like the "haunted house" you drove through? That # 98 Pro (Eric)out of Lake Havasu was an animal & Iron Man for 4 straight races without a break. Congrats to Robert Marshall (Searchlight Resident)for second place in the Pro Race. Jesse (MItch Son) entered every event & if he was not racing he was sweeping. The kid even rode my 600XR to sweep. It weighs 300 pounds & he weighs 110. Jesse can ride ANYTHING fast & will be joining the Pro ranks soon. Golf Cart races were really funny & last of all the THREE water trucks were used to the MAX making Racers & Spectators dust free in the infield section.
AGAIN GOOD JOB MITCH & SEARCHLIGHT NEVADA [^]

ARIZONA Racers that enjoyed the Searchlight Gran-Prix. Please take the time to let Mitch & others in Nevada know you enjoyed the event. Log onto wwwmranracing.com & hit the "Pit Board" at the top. It's kind of goofy you have to read the last post from the bottom of the page up BUT pass on the good vibes. Mitch deserves credit amongst the NV group from the Zonies! [:p]
