I'm trying my hardest to get our XR650 baja race bike. That would be a perfect course/bike combo for S.F.

I don't know how many of the roads the forest service has worked on, but the first section after the start has some new water bars, should make it interesting in the first lap dust [:p]

Has anyone heard any rumors if the woods section will be added back into the course this year??

I certainly plan to be there with the TRX geared for the highway.

I do have one decision I have been wrestling with. A buddy of mine (who frequents this website) has been bugging me to turn in my 100 series number in exchange for a 2 digit number in the Senior Pro quad class. I just joined the ranks of the experts after the Lake Pleasant race this year, and I did get a second place finish at Alto Pit. However, Alto was only the second race I have run since Lake Pleasant, so I have not run many races in my new class, and I don't know if I want to start putting out the extra entry fees.

Maybe some of you pro bike guys can answer one of my other questions concerning the pro class. How does the payout work? I know that $70 of each pro entry goes into a pot, but How far back do they pay out and how do they determine how much 1st place gets versus 2nd versus 3rd?

They pay back %70 of your entree. If there is 6 or more people in the class they will pay 1st and 2nd. If there is 7 or more they will pay up to 3rd place. 5 or fewer only pays first place.

The break down is this, %50 of the total purse goes to 1st, %30 goes to second, and 20% goes to third. If they don't pay second or third they just KEEP that percentage.

They always trophy %50 of class even if there is no money for that position.

Fisk,
That's ok. I thought it was funny, seeing as though my girl friend was right there listening to the entire thing!:) She was given me a ton of crap about that after words. When Alan was yelling, and said to come over here I have some girls you have to meet, and I told him my girl friend is right there sitting on the rock. He peered around me, and looked at her, when she gave him a little wave.:D The look on his face was the best.[:I]

Hope you tear it up in Snowflake. I more than likely won't be there. I'll be prepping for the Glen Helen Race the following weekend and don't really need the points at this time. About Getting in the groove at Alto Pit, It must have been quite the challenge maneuvering that 500cc Beast around that course. I know it was, on my 525. It could have been half the size and it would have been just right. See you in Wickenburg!

I have a 43 tooth rear sprocket that will fit a cr 250:D. You might want to find a steering stabilzer also.

Last year the bikes ran (well at least the first bike race) 4 25 mile loops.

Is Snowflake mostly dirt or sand?

What kind of speeds can you expect to hit there?

I race harescrambles in the midwest so my CR is set up with stock gearing and soft suspension.

I raced Rock to Rock and Alto Pit this year on a quad. Will Snowflake be similar to either of these races?

Wide Open dirt roads with some hidden rocks.

Soft suspension is good, but stock gearing has to go. If I was riding your bike I would probably gear it up to 15/46 or 15/44 if it would pull it.quote:I raced Rock to Rock and Alto Pit this year on a quad. Will Snowflake be similar to either of these races?
Exactly like Rock to Rock without any whoops, sand, or silt and it's in the forest. So basicaly it's like 100 miles of the Well Road in Mexico (the road with the big haul trucks on it)

Thanks Desi! Jeff is nuts. I think it was this years Hieroglyphic race that he passed me in a wash. Just around the next corner, I found him pulling his Raptor away from the canyon wall he had slammed in to. His visor was broke in two pieces, both pieces still stuck to his helmet. It looked like small pair of helmet wings.
It's great writing the articles for those races. You can always rip on the people that beat you. [:p]

Good to know four hours is plenty.... I just bought a 20 ft enclosed trailor, so I dont know how my little nissan is going to do getting up there.... It's been several years since I have been up in the show low area.....

My big concern though isn't getting up there, its getting back after therace. I have to work sunday night at 6PM, so timing might be a little tight, so we'll see.

If I was to start ridin MX I'd have to start batting for the other team. Real men ride in the desert, you're going to get dizzy riding around in circles all night.

Seriuosly though, I used to ride Eloy a lot back when it was the best track in Az. It was a fun track then, I don't know how it is now. I even attempted my luck at the 4-Stroke Nationals back in 98 or 99 there. I got my rear handed to me BTW. On the first Moto I got stuck in the gate TWICE in the same start. The started had to come help me get going, embarrasing.

Also, quick question on jetting. The BRP runs a 175 now, is a 172 a good enough jump, or should I go to 168..

Are you coming from Phoenix?

If so, take highway 87 to Payson. Once into Payson make a right at the Mcdondalds which is highway 260. Take 260 into Heber until the 277 turn off on left hand side. Go down 277 for 8 miles or so to Aripine rd. You will also see Whiplash signs on right hand side.

Well generally it's been a S.F. tradition to have the Poker Run as soon as the sun peaks up on SUNDAY morning. I assume it's the same this year. They race Trucks/Buggies all day saturday and as I remember they don't allow bikes/quads on the track until sunday.

I think the 172 will be enough.
If you want to ride the course, go up this coming weekend. I'm sure there will be a 100 or so Whiplashers running the course (ilegally), I'm sure you can catch up to a few that can show you the course. Just remember it's against Whiplash rules to ride an area TWO WEEKS prior to an event, so if you practice up there this weekend and plan to race next, you'll be CHEATING.

YO TJ - Never done with "The Couch" [|)] Dropped her off @ Ben's Cycles this AM for the Snowflake tune-up. Been a few months since I have ridden her but the bike is geared & set up for Snowflake a lot better than the 450CRF. Just loading the 600XR this morning reminded me what a pig it is HEAVY :( but freaking FAST
still :D Had fun in Snowflake against Fistfull when he was on his Honda 650 and smoked him down the start line drag strip. He wanted to know how that 600XR beat that new 650.
Don't really need any parts for her. I plan on selling the bike after New Year up in Nevada. Hey talk to El Gato about Searchlight NV race in October. We can get your bike there & I got a place for U guys to stay.

I agree with Ben on the pre-run info. It's a "fun run" and it raises money for people that have been injured racing. It is completely seperate from ther race, and the money is collected seperately also. I've seen wives, sons, daughters, grandparents on different types of machines on the pre-runs. BUT with the "big crash of 2002" in last years pre-run they may change that rule. You may also be right that they have different rules for different courses, but I've never seen them turn anyone around on the poker run unless you haven't payed and get the poker run arm band.

Call Whiplash, they're the only ones that know for sure.

I'm sure Todd will come over and beat the crap out of me at pool v'ball as you guys are out beating the crap out of yourselves on motorcycles.

So the answer is, I'm going to pull a Todd.

Todd - Nice thing about second seat in the 4-wheeler is U can do it with the hangover. They say "As you age, get a cage" ;)
Best race I ever did was over 10 years ago with Bill Krug @ Whillow Springs Raceway in Palmdale CA in his 2-seat 1600cc Buggy. It was intense wheel to wheel racing with cars banging & rolling over each other :D It was ALL GOOD & personnaly it's my racing goal to get into a buggy soon. Need $$$$$$$$$ :(

Typically, Whiplash will let you run your first race without buying a license. If you decide to return for another race, then they will require it. You will be assigned a 900 series number for your first race, and based on your finish, a new number after that. The purchase of your annual license reserves your number for the year and gets you a subscription to their newspaper.

I just wanted to make a annoucement. Mike Crawford & "Real Team Racing" have set up a benifit concert for Jim Chapman at the SnowFlake race. The band "FADDED" will play friday night to help raise funds for Jim's recovery. "FADDED", who plays rock & jazz, currently does gigs at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale, will donate their time & talent for all to enjoy. I'm not sure if they plan on playing saturday night, so come on up early & enjoy some tunes & brews to start out the Labor day weekend. Thank you & We'll see you all there!

DBAG - I listened and learned from your advise. Rode hard yesterday in 104 degree heat after drinking the "magic juice" and NO cramps! Never knew what old water tasted like but YUK. Thanks again for the tip :D c ya in Snowflake.
