I highly suggest this race and the MRAN organization next year! The Pearson clan put on an awesome event. Bikes only, as are all MRAN events. It was run like a WORCS race with the big bike races being broken into three different classes. The first was the Four-stroke/125 race; the second was the 30/35/40/45+ race and the last was the Open/250 race. All experts, amateurs and novices race at the same time but are let go on different lines with the experts leaving first and so on. Russ, David and Nick laid out an awesome course. It started with a MX track with a couple of tables, whoops and an uphill that swallowed many a rider. Next was a tricky singletrack section on the side of a hill. That led to a sandwash and more singletrack. Eventually you ended up on a huge grassy field(the grass was about two feet tall!) where they laid out a course that crossed the running creek twice before more singletrack. The course winded back around to the grass track again where you crossed the creek two more times before another sandy section which led you back to the finish and MX track. All the singletrack was littered with rolly-polly rocks of all different sizes. You couldn't ride lazy at all. The course was about five miles long and I did six laps. The time cutoff was 55 minutes. I don't know what my times were but Russ' were about 10+ minutes when he was out there alone. They only gave trophies away to the overall in each of the three races. I say trophies but they were more like art. It was a bear carved out of a log with 1st overall engraved in the side. Definitely the coolest trophy I've ever seen. They had a little unclassified race(practice) in the morning. Todd Davis(#242) and myself had talked with Russ and David on Friday evening about the course and they both said "yeah, you can get good traction on the grass track". I went around the first turn on the grass and said "hey this is fun". In the middle of the second turn though I was in a full-on two wheeled slide across the grass at about twenty miles an hour. "Ooops!" & "Damn!". Well, I high-sided and it pitched me a** over tea kettle. Quite spectacular, I'm sure. Anyway, no harm done except for a tender left shoulder muscle. As for the race, it was relatively uneventful. The expert line was packed as usual. After one false start I ended up getting a fifth place start when we hit the MX track. By the second turn I was in third. Second place augered in to the next muddy turn. I was sitting second when we hit the singletrack. At the bottom of the first big downhill the guy in first impailed himself into the ground. I went around and took over the lead and was never passed the entire day. No big mistakes to the finish and that was all she wrote. The big bear was mine!
I want to thank the Pearson family. Not only did they put on a great race they are genuinely nice people. It is refreshing to be around enthusiasts like them. All generations were out there helping. It was really cool.
On a side note, Todd ended up winning his class(Open Ammie) also. Just don't ask him how many people were in it;).

Travis- It doesn't matter how many were in my class! I still won and had a great (uneventful) weekend. Your right it was a great course. Next year we have to drag more AZ folks up for a better showing. By the way race fans, MRAN has another great Hare Scrambles on Sept. 6th. The flyers says "Handgaurds highly recommended". Travis and I talked to quite afew MRAN folks this last weekend and they all said it was a can't miss race. See you all there.
Happy Trails.

Hey, don't tell her that! As long as I give her first props in my sponsor list I guess it's all good. I don't have a digital camera but if I can get a hold of one I will post the bear.

Trust me-Travis is as close to marrage as us married guys. Once we put a ring on their finger and a couple years they want us out of the house as much as possible. But Travis is still trying to win her over, he even went out and bought her a cute little puppy. It stays at his house and he has to care for it. He's more whipped than the rest of us married guys!
OK Travis I'll tell these guys. There were only 2, yes 2 other riders in my class. And they both should have been beginners, so needless to say I got to cruise around the course for an hour for the win. Not much of a race for me, but what a great course, and those Pearsons are good people.
Happy Trails.

Travis while you were out racing two of the Pearsons horses and a goat ran through the pits . Then awhile later ran thru the motocross track and down by the pond. It was to funny. You guys looked hella fast up at the Walton's/Pearsons Mtn. Those were cool trophies. My son Jesse (2j) brought one home in the expert 80 class. Hope to see you guys back up in Pioche next month. We have a second home up there if you need a place to kick back or to shower??? Look me up. WE belong to the BUSHWACKERS so we will be running around there some where.
God Bless Pioche! God bless the Bushwackers!! Bring old man Fisk with ya when you come.....

Todd,
I'm just trying to be a nice guy and all. Let's get one thing straight, she bought the puppy not me. Damn, I wanted to tell them how many.
Mitch,
That was no goat. It was a mutant bighorn sheep/goat/water buffalo combination. There must be something special in the water up there that makes guys go really, really fast on dirt bikes and shape changes the animals! The cows must be on roids! Congrats to your son. I saw the beginning of his race and he looked good. Isn't that bear cool. If that offer is still standing when we get up there we might just take you up on it.
Thanks,
Travis Epperson
P.S. Well, what will it be "old man Fisk"?

Hey Travis, You can also use a standard camera. When go get them developed have them put them to disk also. It will cost a few dollars more, and most places will do it for you. ;)

Todd and myself are definitely in for the Knucklebuster on September 6. We've heard such good things we are going to pass on the National H&H in Wells the same day. If anyone is interested, it's about a 6 1/2 hour drive from Prescott to the race site. Elevation is probably around 6,000'. www.mranracing.com I'll see if we have any old rolls of film laying around.
Travis Epperson
P.S. I see the new Whiplash paper shows that the next two races have the quads going first and the pros/beginners going last again. WTF! At least the entry fees for the sunbake in Tucson are reasonable this time. I think everyone who shelled out the big dough last time down there should race for free.

It looks like I am going to be able to go.
It was tons of fun last year, be prepared for dust ;)
Last years flyer states: Elevation 5300 to 7900.
The 7900 elevation section was a narrow jeep trail along the spine of the mountain range, to bad I didn't have time to hang out and enjoy the view [:p]

Travis- was that an offer to shower after the Pioche race at Mitch's Casa! Sweet we won't have to drive home with the windows down again! Just a reminder I do have to work at the station on the Sun. after the race so we've got to bogey home. BTW, did I leave my black KTM bag in your truck I can't seem to find it. And of course its got all my jets in it.
PS-It seems your a little sensitive about YOUR new puppy. Just remember its a test! You know to see if you'll be a good daddy!:D
