Well, I was told that this would happen at some point, and it finally did. We had a quad leak some fuel on the toyhauler floor. It is a WW and has the standard blue/grey painted floor in the cargo area. Any ideas on how to best remove the gas from the floor? I have already covered it with baking soda and swept it up a couple of times...and that seemed to help A LOT. Is there anything else I should do?

Two weeks ago my friends Banshee leaked on the floor (two-stroke mix[xx(]). I used a couple applications of Simple Green and it cleaned up great.

Thanks! I've got Simple Green on hand so I'll give it a good once over (or twice over) with the Simple Green.

Also put some vinegar in a container- opened- that might help w/ the smell part of it

Did you try matches [:p]

Seriously, after cleaning as much of the oily residue off with very hot water and Dawn dish soap, rinse with 3 cups white vinegar in a gallon of water, then rinse with a gallon of water with 2 cups baking soda, blot dry, then cover the area with dry baking soda and let it set for a couple of days. After that sweep it up and give it a smell test. If the area still smells the gas soaked into the wood...and will likely keep coming out. In that case when the trailer isn't used cover the area with half cat litter and half baking soda. You can also try Frabreezing the hell out of it (after cleaning) and/or using a commercial grade enzyme type cleaner.

Just be aware you might discolor the area with the cleaning.

By the way if the smell won't go away and you ever change the tile...use fire damage sealer on the wood. That will keep any smell from passing through.

Using alcohol on the tile with sawdust will draw the fuel/oil out of the tile, and remove the odor.

I always wondered how people can sleep in the same haulers that they haul bike/quads in... It has to reek in there. I guess alot of aspirns help....:D

We use our Weekend Warrior for our quads and jet skis and after 4 years we have had no gas smells at all. None of the toys have any gas leaks and we do not do anything other than turn the gas off after we are done riding. Once in awhile we have a little gas fumes when it is all closed up in 110 degree heat and we have been on the road for about 9 hrs (up to Lake Powell), but it goes away within minutes of opening it up. I have more issues of the campfires smell that lingers but have found that a little "fabreeze" works great.

When your around Ill have to remember not to attempt a clean up.[}:)]
as for the odor in a toy hauler I have none, I do get the occasional gas leak, but I have diamond plate flooring in the garage portion and I do ise that for sleeping quaters from time to time.

Guess the Simple Green didn't work ? Or did it help ?[8D]

I scrubbed it with dishsoap...let it dry...then put baking soda on...let sit for a couple of days...then repeated. It sat at the dealer for a couple of weeks closed up in the heat and I'm happy to say there is NO sign of the gas smell. Although I didn't use the Simple Green this time, I will use it if this happens again. Thanks for the suggestions!

Good to know....Glad it worked out for ya.

As for the smell of gas where you sleep. The gas smell, if any, when you get to your destination disappears by the time you unload the toys. The smell is gone pretty much as soon as you drop the ramp door.

I agree with Campershelly on the Fire/Smoke smell. That smell last alot longer.

Glad it worked for you [8D]

The simple green will work like Dawn dish soap (not all work as well...they use Dawn on birds after oil spill), you'll still want to do the baking soda part.

The gas/oil smell while traveling & using toyhauler is what turned me away even without a spill and the fact it is hard to use while traveling (No couches or table). My friends have the LE30 something Weekend Warrior with 3 Harleys...No leaks, just smell while using 5th wheel traveling across U.S.A....[8D]

We have had our toyhauler for 3 yrs now- no gas smell in there at all- Husband turns off the gas when he loads them up. We don't store the quads in there but just for the trip.
